With all presidential election going on, we girls at a Bais Yaakov HS talk about politics a lot. I’ve noticed, however, that our teachers will denounce, blast, and blame Obama…. but none of them know why. A teacher will say something like, “Yeah, don’t talk to me about the state of the country and Obama…” and if one of us says something like, “Yeah… what do you think of his tax policy? education policy?” “What’s different about Romney?” or something similar, they will hurriedly change the subject. They have no idea why we don’t like Obama.
I think that if you don’t know what you’re talking about, don’t fake it!
October 21, 2012 8:36 pm at 8:36 pm #900180Girls/women shouldn’t get involved with politics.

2. He’s liberal
Because of that, some people cannot fathom that there can be any redeeming quality about him.
I am pretty embarrassed at the level of discourse among many frum people I’ve spoken to about the President.

October 21, 2012 9:44 pm at 9:44 pm #900184yitzchokmParticipantbekitzur,
just wondering, do you like obama?
October 21, 2012 9:49 pm at 9:49 pm #900185kfbParticipantBekitzur- Ill tell you what’s wrong with Obamas tax policies. He wants to heavily tax the rich and businesses so he can spend more on his social programs(poor people). If the rich and businesses are taxed heavily then they can’t hire people. If they can’t hire people the economy is going to continue into this recession and Obama will start taxing middle class people as well. Obama doesn’t have faith in economic growth. Romney on the other hand wants to cut taxes for everyone. If rich people and business aren’t taxed a lot they can hire people thereby creating more taxpayers. Romney is betting on the economy getting better.

I do agree that if it frustrating when people talk a big game about politics but cannot back up their points. I find that very often with Obama supporters either from work, or my husbands family. I don’t find it do much in their support for the president, but more in their negativity towards Romeny. Thankfully I have been able to set some people straight recently, because I on the other hand can argue my points until the sun comes up. Woman can and are excited, involved, and curious about politics. Anyone who says differently needs to go back in time a few hundred years where they belong.
October 22, 2012 12:17 am at 12:17 am #900187bekitzurParticipantNo, no, no, people. I am for Romney. V-E-E-R-Y for Romney. My point is, all the students know what they’re talking about; we talk about the difference between Republican and Democrats; our insights about the election; how Obama’s policies to get jobs to China couldn’t possibly work; the promise and problems with Romney’s Five-Point Plan; how Obama is not going to lessen the deficit.
Stuff like that.
But our teachers don’t know much more than the fact that Romney is Republican. And wait – yeah, that means Obama is democrat, right?

I would like for you to tell me why I shouldnt vote for Obama. Whats wrong with Obama?
October 22, 2012 12:45 am at 12:45 am #900190squeakParticipantOut of 400 million people in the country, you are given the choice of… two? And what’s the choice, really, you don’t know either of these guys well enough to know what they’re thinking. The political system is set up just to give you proles the illusion of choice. It’s a very effective form of controlling you. Nothing is in it for you, so why do you get so worked up over it? The same thing is going to happen regardless of who you back- politics are just a game, a show, entertainment for plebes. It’s not a two party system, it’s a two class system- the ruling class, and you.
Sheesh

October 22, 2012 1:30 am at 1:30 am #900192yehudayonaParticipantIn the 2004 election, my 10-year-old daughter came home from school convinced that if Kerry were elected, he’d kill all the Jews. Apparently, she got this idea from her teachers. They weren’t exactly the most sophisticated thinkers when it came to politics.
October 22, 2012 1:36 am at 1:36 am #900193bekitzurParticipantWIY – I can give you a long, long list of reasons, which I am not in the mood to type up now. But the main one is that Obama will pull funding from Israel, is still convinced that peace talks will help Israel and the Arabs make peace, and here’s the rest from some website
Obama position on Israel
