Several years ago, I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard my co-worker refer to her mother-in-law as “Mrs. ‘Smith’. I thoughr that was little too formal for my liking. Can’t say I have ever heard any Yidden do that.

I called my in-laws “Mr. X*” and “Mrs. X” until my wedding day. After that, it was “Dad” and “Mom.”

    * No, not “X.” You know what I mean. 🙂

Depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s Father and Mother. (in British accent) “Well hello Father, hello Mother. Lovely day for a tea is it not?” Father- “Indeed”

Or sometimes I call them Muddah and Faddah and I sing “Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh. Here I am at Camp Granada….”

I wouldn’t mind if my kids called me “naynay” or “rufruf” or “fifi”. Something different. Like who standardized totty lol?

We’re an Abba and Imma family. Actually, Abba was one of the first words my daughter said.

    Imma and Abba.

What about when the in laws also are called Imma and Abba (and both grandparents are still alive K’H), how would/do you refer to each set of parents?

I call both my mother and mother-in-law “Mom.” I call both my father and father-in-law “Dad.” We’ve managed for twenty years without any problems.

How do you refer to your parents and to your in-laws when speaking to your spouse?

How do you refer to your parents and to your in-laws when speaking to your spouse?

That question would be a great one to ask the shevatim.?

Otherwise: my mother, your mother, my father, your father.

Or: my mother-in-law, your mother-in-law, my father-in-law, your father-in-law (the first one’s easier).

I may say “Mom” or “Dad,” or I may say “My mother” or “your father” depending on the situation and context.
