Let’s start a tanach trivia thread! Whoever answers a question right can ask the next one. Let’s see how obscure we can get. I’ll start. How did King Menashe die?
October 6, 2011 11:10 pm at 11:10 pm #1217378Queen BeeMemberI don’t know the answer, but yay! I love this game! (I hope I can get some right. Are we allowed to Google?)
October 6, 2011 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm #1217379am yisrael chaiParticipantbtw, bekitzur, you didn’t return to the chidon thread…
October 6, 2011 11:18 pm at 11:18 pm #1217380doodle jumpParticipantI like this idea. I hope I can answer some of them.
October 6, 2011 11:21 pm at 11:21 pm #1217381outreach613ParticipantWhat was the name of Lavans wife?
October 6, 2011 11:27 pm at 11:27 pm #1217383doodle jumpParticipantPlease don’t jump to the next question until the first one was answered. It gets confusing and believe it or not, I do like learning the answers.
October 6, 2011 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #1217384outreach613ParticipantI thought his wifes name was Adina

I vote for passuk and targum only. Any other ideas?

Just provide the sources; it’s good to hear different opinions
October 7, 2011 2:47 am at 2:47 am #1217399chanieMemberWhy wasn’t ??? ???? permitted to build the ??? ??????
October 7, 2011 2:52 am at 2:52 am #1217401yitayningwutParticipantWasn’t it because he had to much blood on his hands? To chanie’s question I mean.
October 7, 2011 3:01 am at 3:01 am #1217403yitayningwutParticipantR’ Popa, with all due respect, see 2 Divrei Hayamim 22:7-8:
And David said to Solomon, “My son, as for me, it was in my heart to build a House in the name of Hashem my God. But the word of Hashem was upon me, saying: ‘You have shed much blood, and you have waged great wars; you shall not build a House in My Name because you have shed much blood to the ground before Me.
Also what’s snopes?
October 7, 2011 3:07 am at 3:07 am #1217404popa_bar_abbaParticipantOk, you got me.
But I’ve been making up answers, names, questions, times, bamas, everything, for this whole thread.
(snopes is a website that debunks urban legends.)
October 7, 2011 3:14 am at 3:14 am #1217405yitayningwutParticipantAnd nobody caught you till now? Ha! Look, now you’ve started a whole bunch of new legends.
October 7, 2011 3:23 am at 3:23 am #1217406MindOverChatterParticipantI think popa indeed didn’t take his pill today.
Now, sonny, you listen to what I have to say!
A- It’s not Purim today (although it’s erev yom HAkipurim)
B- You made me think I was an am haaretz
C- If anybody didn’t read your last post, you were oiver on ???? ??? ???? on erev Yom Kippur.
D- Don’t you ever do this again!
E- Don’t you EVER EVER forget to take your pill again!
F- POTCH!!
Now, straight into bed, sonny! You have to get up early tomorrow!
October 7, 2011 3:26 am at 3:26 am #1217407chanieMemberyitayningwut; Even though ??? said that to ????, it is not the correct answer. All his war’s were either a ???? or ????. The answer is that ??? ???? was on such a high madrega, had he built the ??? ????? it could never have been destroyed, and Hashem would have ?”? taken out his wrath on ??? ????? instead.
October 7, 2011 3:27 am at 3:27 am #1217408Sam2ParticipantPBA: Why are you making these up and how is it not Megaleh Panim Batorah (especially because you tried to pass it off as truth and a lot of people thought you were serious)?
October 7, 2011 3:56 am at 3:56 am #1217409Sam2ParticipantMOC: According to several Rishonim Mid’var Sheker Tirchak is not a Lav against lying.
Chanie: Do you have a source for that? As far as I know that Midrash goes hand in hand with the “Midrash” that Dovid Hamelech built one wall of the Beis Hamikdash (the Kosel) and that is what it was never destroyed. Of course, the Kosel was never part of the Beis Hamikdash so that “Midrash” is clearly not really a Midrash.
October 7, 2011 4:07 am at 4:07 am #1217410MindOverChatterParticipantSam2: You’re right. But I still think popa’s behavior is far from nice. (Why, some of us will forever think lavan’s wife was called Yavala!)
October 7, 2011 4:10 am at 4:10 am #1217411mommamia22ParticipantThis thread makes me so proud to be part of the Jewish people. I’m ashamed not to know so much and inspired to learn more. H’ must be shepping nachas.
If only the goyim could see the games that you play…
October 7, 2011 5:03 am at 5:03 am #1217412msseekerMembermommamia22, you know more than you think. Read Popa’s last post. And Popa, you shamed mommamia22 – and me. 🙁
October 7, 2011 1:28 pm at 1:28 pm #1217413popa_bar_abbaParticipantI have another tanach question: This one is based on parshas acharei mos, and parshas ki tezte.
How does a ??? ??? become pattur from yibum and assur to the yuvum?
Is it that she is just pattur because of the passuk ?????, and then she is therefore an eishes ach?
Or is it that the passuk of ????? actually makes her an ervah?
(In other words, why is knowing tanach limited to the stories? What about the rest of it?
(In more words, there is no reason to be embarrassed if you thought I was telling the truth. I was pretty convincing. Sam2 is just made he didn’t think of it.)
And this was revenge on adorable for not telling us her funny line about the stale bread last night.
October 7, 2011 1:47 pm at 1:47 pm #1217414chanieMemberNext question: All the ???? were supposed to live 180 years. Only ???? achieved that distinction. ????? we know lost 5 years so that he should not witness ??? showing his true colors. Why did ???? live for only 147 years? Why did Hashem deduct 33 years of his life?
October 7, 2011 2:07 pm at 2:07 pm #1217415Sam2ParticipantChanie: On what do you base your assumption that all the Avos were supposed to live for 180 years? That’s also interesting; I will look into if another source for that exists. So far every one I have seen referenced talks about the “Midrash” by the Kosel, but it’s possible. I know the Family Midrash Says on Shmuel quotes it if I recall correctly, maybe I can track down the source through there.
October 7, 2011 2:52 pm at 2:52 pm #1217416ItcheSrulikMemberSam2: It’s a rashi on the verse where Yakov tells Pharaoh that his life was “short bad and shorter than my fathers'” I don’t know who Rashi is quoting.
popa: The answers to your questions, as well as the questions themselves, are all found in Meseches Bava Mayseh daf alef amud gimmel. (except for l’tzror)
On what day did all the olei bavel agree to a ban on intermarriage?
October 7, 2011 3:00 pm at 3:00 pm #1217417chanieMemberSam2: I read it years ago in Sefer Beraishis “The Medrash Says”. Next week, IY”H, I will look it up and give you the source. BTW, the answer to my question is not found in that sefer.
ItcheSrulik; The question was, why 33 years?
October 7, 2011 3:13 pm at 3:13 pm #1217418flyerParticipant33 for the amount of words he spoke to Pharoah complaining about his hard life
October 7, 2011 3:27 pm at 3:27 pm #1217419chanieMemberflyer; Very close but it goes a little further. The amount of words that he spoke to ???? was 25 words. The additional 9 words is the Posuk right before. ????? ???? ?? ???? ??? ??? ??? ????. Hashem said to ????; “After all the kindness that I did for you, you have no right to look so old”. Therefore being that ???? asked him his age, being that he never saw such an old looking man, he was punished for those 9 words as well.
October 7, 2011 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm #1217420yitayningwutParticipantchanie T.-
While Rabbi Sherman may argue, the Radak understands it plainly:
?? ???? ???? –
?? ?? ????? ???? ?? ??? ??? ??? ??? ?? ????, ?? ???? ?? ????? ??? ????? ????.
?? ??? ????? ??? ?? ??, ??? ?? ?? ??? ???? ???? ????? ???? ????? ???? ??? ?????? ????? ?????, ?????? ???? ???? ???? ???? ?? ?? ????? ??? ????? ??? ???, ??? ?? ????? ??? ????, ?? ???? ?????? ??? ??? ????, ??? ????: [???? ????] (???????) ??? ??? ??? ????, ?? ???? ????? ??? ??? ???? ??? ??? ??? ??????, ???? ???? ??? ????? ????? ??????? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ???? ????? ?? ?????? ????? ?????? ??? ????? ?????? ?????? ???? ????? ???? ?????? ?? ???? ??? ????, ??? ???? ?????? ?? ?????? ???? ????, ???? ?????? ??? ????? ???? ????? ?????? ??? ?????? ????, ??? ????? ????? ???? ????? ????? ????? ??? ?????? ????? ???? ??? ????? ?? ???? ???? ??? ???? ????.

October 7, 2011 5:30 pm at 5:30 pm #1217421popa_bar_abbaParticipantI bet the kids in that tanach contest in israel couldn’t get my tzaros question right.
October 7, 2011 5:43 pm at 5:43 pm #1217422sof davarMemberPBA – for the record, I did catch you and your answer to my question (assaf!?). And we are told that Dovid Hamelech brought karbanos on the bama in givon.
October 7, 2011 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #1217423bekitzurParticipantwhat’s the current question?!

I’m confident you’ll be able to determine a few more erroneous answers…
perhaps keep this as pba’s thread and either start another or continue on the previous one…
just a suggestion
I sure hope m22 isn’t thinking she’s learning all that much over here on this thread…
October 7, 2011 6:37 pm at 6:37 pm #1217426chanieMemberNew Question:
For how many years did ??? ????? enjoy total ????? on the highest madreiga? This does not include his younger years when he only had ??? ?????.
For the record there are no Seforim that discuss it. It is purely a mathematical calculation.
October 7, 2011 6:55 pm at 6:55 pm #1217427chanieMemberSam2; Chanie: On what do you base your assumption that all the Avos were supposed to live for 180 years?
The source is ?????? ??? ?? ??
October 7, 2011 7:10 pm at 7:10 pm #1217428Sam2ParticipantChanie: I would say about 2 years and 11 months.
October 9, 2011 12:48 am at 12:48 am #1217429chanieMemberSam; A Gut Yuhr!
I come in at a little under 2 years.
October 9, 2011 1:06 am at 1:06 am #1217430squeakParticipantWho is now considered one of the shoftim, that was not one before the feminist movement? I saw this in a classroom where I davened today and did a double take.
October 9, 2011 1:20 am at 1:20 am #1217431bekitzurParticipantWho was Og’s father? Grandfather? And great-grandfather?
October 9, 2011 2:31 am at 2:31 am #1217432chanieMembersqueak; Could you please rephrase that question?
October 9, 2011 3:33 am at 3:33 am #1217433bekitzurParticipantHow did Menashe die?
What was the name of Asniel ben Kenaz’s wife?
What was the name of Yehoshua’s wife?
What was Achav’s palace made out of?
How long did it usually take to get from Sheva (as in Malkas Sheva) to Yerushalayim? How long did it take her when she went to Shlomo?
Who was Lapidos?
How many sons did Tziva (the servant of Mifiboshes) have?
No, I did NOT get these questions off a website, unlike some of the questions here (I made up EVERY ONE OF THEM myself!)
October 9, 2011 3:59 am at 3:59 am #1217434squeakParticipantI prefer to give the answer. It’s Barak. You see, back when I was learning Navi we understood that Barak was the husband of Devorah, and a valiant man – but not the shofet. That’s not what they teach anymore, at least not according to the poster I saw. I wonder when the new edition of Nach comes out…
