I, like many new Yorkers, use public transportation to work. It has its moments, but for $2.75 it works Ok. In the summertime however, many of the women who ride the trains and busses are dress immodestly. Is it better to spend more money and get to work, by other means?
If I remember correctly Rav Moshe was meikel in regards to the possibility of touching women on a crowded subway. Maybe that would apply here. On the other hand, Rav Asher Arieli said that he is zocheh to have 800 guys in his shour because he used to take taxis to yeshiva instead of the bus.
Rav Moshe’s psak was regarding shomer negia (inadvertently making contact with a female [even properly dressed]) and NOT regarding being exposed to pritzus.
On a serious note, obviously greater concerns during the summer but isn’t the question one of what other items you will have to forego if the expense of Uber et. al poses an economic burden. If you can afford it without any real stress, than make you life easier. Not just issues of pritzus but probably a more comfortable trip as well. Indulge.
