June 12, 2009 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #1225290JaxMemberanonymisss: what did i do to be called nuts this time missy?!
areivim: well if you don’t direct a post to Jax, how is Jax supposed to know your talking to him?!
June 12, 2009 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #1225291areivimzehlazehParticipantwhat DIDN’T you do 😉
June 12, 2009 6:17 pm at 6:17 pm #1225292JaxMemberareivim: sweet!
July 20, 2009 7:10 pm at 7:10 pm #1225293noitallmrParticipantHow about being able to comment in the Simchas section??? That would be v nice!
July 20, 2009 11:18 pm at 11:18 pm #1225294PMMemberI would like to see more aggressive editing of offensive language.
July 20, 2009 11:26 pm at 11:26 pm #1225295Darchei NoamMemberPM: IMHO it would be beneficial to the site, to consider your suggestion, if you explained what kind of language you consider offensive that has been previously posted.
July 20, 2009 11:38 pm at 11:38 pm #1225296yossi z.Memberi second that! anything that cleans gets my screams (and other peoples groans :P)
July 21, 2009 12:04 am at 12:04 am #1225297Yiddisha MamaMemberHow about more updates on the News Alerts, such as the motor vehicle accidents, people hit by cars, etc.
July 21, 2009 12:25 am at 12:25 am #1225298JosephParticipantThere is no importance in knowing every time someone is unfortunate to be hit by a car, etc.
July 21, 2009 2:27 am at 2:27 am #1225299YW Moderator-72ParticipantPM and others if you see a post that has slipped through please send an email to the moderator of choice. Identify the thread and the post. it will be reviewed and appropriate action will be taken.
July 21, 2009 2:40 am at 2:40 am #1225300kapustaParticipantYiddishe Mama, how about not having MVA and people getting hit by cars at all?!?!
July 27, 2009 10:54 am at 10:54 am #1225301GoldieLoxxMemberpleeze can we have a way of seeing our posts?? i hate it that all i got is a list when i click my name
any1 else bothered by this 2??
August 27, 2009 3:04 pm at 3:04 pm #1225302mazal77ParticipantCan we keep the desserts on one thread?? There are thousands of receipes, do you want thousands of receipe threads?? Also, mods need to keep those threads on topic. I could mod those threads if you like :).
August 27, 2009 3:12 pm at 3:12 pm #1225303mepalMemberYes, this place is beginning to resemble a recipe book.
August 27, 2009 3:24 pm at 3:24 pm #1225304YW Moderator-72Participantmazal77 we will discuss the recipe thread idea and take it under consideration, however, how do you suggest we keep a parmesan thread on topic… there are just so many areas for humor there…
Spot lights please! this your cookbook thread moderation audition… :o)
August 27, 2009 3:28 pm at 3:28 pm #1225305mepalMemberOn a side note, is there a way to update the CR automatically? Instead of having to F5 every other minute, is there a way you can make the updates come up on their own? (Maybe we wait till 99 comes back to discuss this).
August 27, 2009 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm #1225306jewishfeminist02MemberCan you add a feature so that threads with unread replies are highlighted?
August 27, 2009 11:45 pm at 11:45 pm #1225307JosephParticipantThe capitalization, by the mods, of thread titles is overkill. Diminutive (minor) words should not be capitalized.
According to the CMS “In regular title capitalization, also known as headline style, the first and last words and all nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and subordinating conjunctions (if, because, as, that, etc.) are capitalized.” And Garbl states “Capitalize only proper nouns and the first word in headlines. To improve readability, avoid capitalizing all the letters in more than one or two words in headlines and headings. Punctuate headlines like sentences.”
See http://www.webreference.com/internet/writing/headlines/capitalization/ for more details.
August 28, 2009 12:41 pm at 12:41 pm #1225308Be HappyParticipantAt the moment the front page looks more like a recipe book. We have nine threads on different recipes!
I wonder why in many threads we go off the subject started?
October 9, 2009 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm #1225309JosephParticipantWolf would like a search bar for the Coffee Room.
Wolf, are you volunteering your programming skills for this? 😉
October 12, 2009 4:25 am at 4:25 am #1225310A600KiloBearParticipantBS”D
A search bar is available through Google and can easily be added.
I would like an Ignore feature but that is considerably harder to add.
October 12, 2009 11:09 am at 11:09 am #1225311live4HashemMemberI think that people shouldn’t be able to post comments on articles. All people end up doing is either bashing the person who wrote the article, or bashing someone who added a comment that they don’t agree with. Obviously people like adding their say to the articles so maybe the moderators can remove the lines where they bash other commentors. Everyone has their own views and opinions on every matter and it’s 100% okay to disagree but I think it’s horrible to bash someone who has a different view point than you. I read aricles about all these tzaaros that Bnei Yisrael are going through, and when you see the comments, you see that people are bashing each other. It’s so sad that we put people down cuz we disagree with them over tzaaros that are happening. Wasn’t the Beis Hamikdash distroyed because of Sinas Chinum?? We learn that all tzaaros come because we don’t have the Beis Hamikdash anymore so isn’t it a little ridiculous to fight over tzaaros which causes sinas chinum???? Hashem should save us from all these terrible tzaaros and bring us all together be’achdus and serve Him!
October 12, 2009 1:51 pm at 1:51 pm #1225312squeakParticipantI for one am happy that there is no ignore button, or I wouldn’t even get snorts and groans anymore 🙂
October 21, 2009 9:31 pm at 9:31 pm #1225313kapustaParticipantI dont think I’m the only one who finds this, but its very annoying to read through a long post. If your post is longer than the average “scroll length” on a computer monitor, chances are your post is too long and probably no one will read it anyway. Either shorten it or put a summary at the bottom. (I think the first is probably a better idea).
Sorry for complaining.
October 21, 2009 11:19 pm at 11:19 pm #1225314BemusedParticipantI would love for the mods to focus on topic maintenance in the threads. So many threads begin with an interesting topic, and are then hijacked by someone who is looking for any opportunities to further an agenda, or by someone who sees the thread as a way to shore up some poor self-esteem by knocking the original poster’s question, or by someone who feels the need to insert themselves into conversations that appear to be over their heads by offering inane or attack-dog like put-downs.
I do NOT want to name specific threads, but I think the volume and variation of threads on the CR should enable any poster to participate without changing the topics on OP’s. The volume of traffic here is beyond massive, and I’m amazed at the job the moderators are already doing to control the flow. I know it’s an almost impossible job, but…I would love a little more weeding out of unrelated to topic comments…
Thanks 🙂
October 22, 2009 12:56 am at 12:56 am #1225315AnonymousInactiveThat’s sweet that you’d love that, but other posters would love to voice their opinions too. If a post follows the rules of the CR, it will be approved. If you want to discuss a specific topic, feel free to post. If other people want to discuss another aspect of that topic, they are free to do that too. We do not stifle conversation here.
October 22, 2009 1:00 am at 1:00 am #1225316BemusedParticipantNot a problem; it was a suggestion, and you’re free to reject it. That was my “opinion” that I voiced, and now I’ve heard yours.
All the best.
October 22, 2009 1:01 am at 1:01 am #1225317BemusedParticipantOh, and thanks for staying on topic!
October 22, 2009 1:32 am at 1:32 am #1225318JaxMemberSuggestions to Improve YWN:
find Charlie Brown, clean him up, and have him return to posting in the CR asap!
October 22, 2009 4:57 am at 4:57 am #1225319Who Cares?Memberywn should update the replys to the coffee room much more frequently and faster.
October 22, 2009 12:08 pm at 12:08 pm #1225320mepalMemberThey do. There has been much improvement in this area.
(You’re welcome, mods ;))
Thanks 🙂
October 22, 2009 12:33 pm at 12:33 pm #1225321haifagirlParticipantWhen the mods are on, they’re great. But we need some mods who either live on the other side of the ocean, or who are insomniacs.
check, check
October 22, 2009 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #1225323mepalMemberSend your resume to [email protected] .
October 22, 2009 4:08 pm at 4:08 pm #1225324BEST IMAParticipantI didnt read all 462 posts and i dont know if anyone mentioned it along the way but wouldnt it be easier to have the last post written first? Usually you read the old posts but you want to see if anyone added anything new. If it opened up to whats written last its easier to keep up with things instead of opening up to the old post from months ago and then finding the latest one.
October 22, 2009 4:12 pm at 4:12 pm #1225325YW Moderator-80MemberClick on the number of minutes in the column: “freshness”. This will take you to the most recent post.
October 22, 2009 4:15 pm at 4:15 pm #1225326BEST IMAParticipantOh my gosh i shouldve asked that months ago. Thankx Mod 80! You just made my life in the YWN CR much easier!
October 22, 2009 5:19 pm at 5:19 pm #1225327JewessMemberIt would be nice to have an avatar, but then the avatars would be judged for their tzniut or lack of it, and what color shirts they wear.
Everyone already has avatars. They are the same for everyone and blend into the background of the page perfectly so you can’t even see them 🙂
October 24, 2009 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #1225328dveykus613ParticipantMods/YWN Programmers – PLEASE can you guys find a way to either make the search box turn up results from the coffee room (ie not just news headlines), or make a separate search box for searching the coffee room – titles of threads at least?
and/or
can you make the main page have “next page options” for thread titles? I often can’t find a thread after a day or so, and I can’t figure out which subtopic it’s under (except in cases when it’s really obvious)….
To search the Coffee room only, go to Google and type “site:theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom” and then your search such as this
TIA for all you do!!!
January 26, 2010 7:58 am at 7:58 am #1225329chofetzchaimMemberYou can search the CR from the following page: http://j82.us/searchyw.php
January 26, 2010 3:54 pm at 3:54 pm #1225330bombmaniacParticipantheres an idea…STOP CLOSING EVERY TOPIC!!!
January 27, 2010 2:15 am at 2:15 am #1225331youngbutnotstupidMemberevery time i try to add a new topic, it tells me the topic is closed. Anyone know why? the subjects have been about mashiach, chumash, dance revolution?
January 27, 2010 3:05 am at 3:05 am #1225332YW Moderator-80MemberNone of your topics have been reviewed or seen let alone closed. You have to click on “pick a section” under your post before submitting it, otherwise you get that message
January 27, 2010 3:10 am at 3:10 am #1225333bombmaniacParticipantI am truly sorry for my last post. It was most rash of me. I’m sure the moderators are doing the best they can to maintain a decent frum website.
January 27, 2010 3:23 am at 3:23 am #1225334bombmaniacParticipantHEY!!! HEY!!! for all of your information, that bombmaniac up there is NOT me look closely at the spelling. the correct spelling of bombmaniac is B-O-M-B-M-A-N-I-A-C
