Take away accidents from the photo album it is really disgusting:(
November 11, 2010 2:33 pm at 2:33 pm #1225390phrumMemberAdd a list of open public shiurim in different communities.
Put together live online chevrusas.
Live in person CR Maleve Malka!
November 11, 2010 2:36 pm at 2:36 pm #1225391phrumMemberA “freecycle” type section.
November 11, 2010 4:10 pm at 4:10 pm #1225392WIYMemberI’m with Phrum. A list of public shiurim in various communities with Rabbi name, times and toopics would be a huge asset and a big Kidush Hashem. You will have the zechus to be marbitz Torah that way.
November 11, 2010 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm #1225393Y.W. EditorKeymasterNot a bad idea.
It’s just a tremendous amount of work trying to gather all that info. Not to mention that times of shiurim change all the time.
The only option is to make it a reader-submitted section, and you guys would need to constantly update it with shiurim.
We’ll send it the board of directors for a vote…..
November 11, 2010 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #1225394phrumMemberDon’t forget about my shaddchan/shiducchim idea! 😉

I think you may have to collaborate with other websites that have such lists. Maybe get in touch with Torahanytime.com
November 11, 2010 5:13 pm at 5:13 pm #1225396WIYMemberAlso supposedly the Torah Times magazine has a shiurim listing. There are other sources but I’m not familiar with them. However the websites that broadcast shiurim would be able to assist you. At least I hope they would.
November 11, 2010 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #1225397phrumMemberI think even just user posted and edited is a good place to start.
November 12, 2010 9:42 am at 9:42 am #1225398d aMemberPhrum, at one point everything people posted went directly onto the CR and people were taking advantage and posting inapproprite stuff.
And editing would also be the same problem. Because once a moderater posts a post, if you can edit it, you can post anything you want. Unless the mods mod the edited post. But that would be a lot more work. Not worth it.
I think now you can edit your post until it gets posted. (When your post is yellow).
The system we have now is very good. (It does get annoyoing sometimes, but hey, so do!!!)
On a side note, is it time for the Elections 2010 banner to come down?
November 12, 2010 2:31 pm at 2:31 pm #1225399phrumMemberI agree that the mods should check shiurim that are posted, I just meant that the YWN staff shouldn’t be burdened with finding shiurim to post l’chatchila.
November 12, 2010 2:32 pm at 2:32 pm #1225400phrumMemberI would also suggest some method be implemented for member to exchange contact info if they so choose.
November 12, 2010 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #1225401d aMemberphrum, when you wrote “I think even just user posted and edited is a good place to start.”, I thought you meant that the CR should be self moderated. I didnt realize you were talking about the Shiurim. Sorry!

Is there a way you can create an option for threads to open up from the last page or most recent page first. Its a bit cumbersome when opening a thread with many pages to have to click click click to get to the most recent stuff. Especially if someone is using their smart phone to browse the web and view the coffeeroom.
November 12, 2010 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm #1225404YW Moderator-80Memberi dont think so
they worked on this glitch for a long while
the moderators face the same annoyance.
November 12, 2010 6:45 pm at 6:45 pm #1225405SJSinNYCMemberYou can click to go to the last post and it opens to where you were last.
November 12, 2010 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm #1225406myfriendMemberWIY:
I’m not sure if that’s what you mean… but if you click the time (in minutes or hours) under FRESHNESS on the main CR page, it will take you to the last post on the thread.
November 12, 2010 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm #1225407WolfishMusingsParticipantWIY,
Instead of clicking on the title, click on the last response time (i.e. 10 minutes ago). It will take you to the last post.
If you want to see more than just the last post, delete everything in the URL after and including the “#”
For example, shorten
to
The Wolf

Actually, i wasn’t talking about shidduchim – I was talking about listing open public shiurrim.
November 12, 2010 7:33 pm at 7:33 pm #1225409WIYMemberSjs, myfriend and Wolf.
Thanks!
November 12, 2010 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm #1225410d aMemberphrum, I said above:
“I didnt realize you were talking about the Shiurim. Sorry!”
I see we are both reading each other’s posts wrong! Cute!
November 14, 2010 1:11 am at 1:11 am #1225411chesednameParticipantposting our comments whether the mods agree with them or not!
as long as it’s not lashon harah.
i started a thread do ppl think the mods should tell us why they close certain topics, it wasn’t even put up.
i think if you have a public forum for ppl to have discussions, debates, advice, etc.. you should post ALL comments!
November 18, 2010 4:13 pm at 4:13 pm #1225413WIYMemberMods
I have some real good ones.
This one is a no brainer, when someone creates a new thread there has to be an option to EDIT the thread. Theres no edit option and many times threads get started with gross misspellings in titles or the person who started it realized that there was more they wanted to add to the first post and its too late. You should give a minimum 10 minute window to edit the thread. Additionally, there should be an option to trash a thread. If someone creates a thread and then has “Charata” a minute or 2 later there should be an option to delete it from the system or something.
2. The Latest Discussions opening page should have maybe an additional 10-15 most recent topics because as the site grows and more and more people join and start threads you ca have threads from a few hours ago that disappeared from the Latest Discussions page.
November 18, 2010 6:11 pm at 6:11 pm #1225414smartcookieMemberI’m with WIY on the number of threads per page. Sometimes, very recent threads already fall off the page before I get a chance to read them.
November 18, 2010 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #1225415WIYMemberNu Mods what do you say to my suggestions?
November 18, 2010 8:19 pm at 8:19 pm #1225416YW Moderator-80Membergreat suggestions!

November 18, 2010 9:53 pm at 9:53 pm #1225418YW Moderator-80Memberwe are just lowly moderators
not software engineers
i imagine someone is listening though
November 19, 2010 3:40 am at 3:40 am #1225419Y.W. EditorKeymasterWIY and Smartcookie: There have been more threads added to the page.
November 19, 2010 3:48 am at 3:48 am #1225420WIYMemberY.W. Editor
Thank you for taking care of that. Nice to know our voices are listened to 😉
December 7, 2010 1:06 am at 1:06 am #1225421bymeidelMemberthere should be a Rav on board to answer halacha questions
December 7, 2010 1:49 am at 1:49 am #1225422WIYMemberHow about adding a section about cars?
December 7, 2010 6:04 am at 6:04 am #1225423smartcookieMemberThank you editor. Just realized that although I’m a bit late!
December 7, 2010 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm #1225424wants to be a WIYMemberthere should be a Rav on board to answer halacha questions
There is a busload of Rabbonim, Rebbetzins, could have beens, should have beens & wannabes in the CR
December 7, 2010 8:33 pm at 8:33 pm #1225425apushatayidParticipantSuggestion:
All posts, in order to be approved for public view must be approved by the Shemiras Halashon Shaila Hotline.
December 10, 2010 12:29 am at 12:29 am #1225426maahMember1) Button on bottom and top to move page up and down quickly
2) Poll link, readers can place questions. People can not post comments, only yes or no, and you must have a system that people are not voting multiple times. Obviously we get to see results.
3) I see many comments deleted, and some edited. Be consistent.
December 10, 2010 2:11 am at 2:11 am #1225427YW Moderator-80Member#3 is very interesting
exactly the kind of comment we used to get from the poster “chesedname”.
but he doesnt seem to be posting anymore.
December 10, 2010 2:14 am at 2:14 am #1225428deiyezoogerMemberWhen rejecting a post perhaps give a reason.
December 10, 2010 11:44 am at 11:44 am #1225430eclipseMemberYes,when I see the words EDITED by someone’s post I do wonder…And from what I’ve read, people are getting hurt and frustrated. It seems some posts get thru regardless, and others don’t?
December 10, 2010 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #1225431maahMemberdeiyezooger
great point
also for G-D’s sake, tell us why you close a thread (although to their credit, sometimes they do tell us)
December 13, 2010 9:16 pm at 9:16 pm #1225433WIYMember1. I would like to suggest once again a Car/Automobile section for discussing anything having to do with cars, car maintenance, car leasing, purchasing, rentals, collecting, or just general car talk…
2. I would like to suggest a new subsection in the Bais Medrash called Halacha so that all Halachic discussion threads would go there specifically. It would make things more organized.
December 13, 2010 9:44 pm at 9:44 pm #1225434chesednameParticipantWIY
do you realize you’re talking to yourself lol
all seriousness, i wonder if anyone is looking at these suggestions.
December 13, 2010 10:34 pm at 10:34 pm #1225435WIYMemberchesedname
I hope you are wrong….
December 13, 2010 11:43 pm at 11:43 pm #1225436jhcvivgwryParticipantchesedname
I also want a car section
December 14, 2010 6:05 am at 6:05 am #1225437chesednameParticipantI know no one is listening, but here is another suggestion.
CLOSE THIS SITE DOWN EVERY WEEK FOR 24 HOURS!!!!
mods can pick the 24 hours, but ppl should have a time out, and maybe go back to dealing with live humans or learning, or even working.
We do this…..every Shabbos. We hope you too shut your computer then, and enjoy Shabbos as we do!
December 14, 2010 6:11 am at 6:11 am #1225439smartcookieMemberIf anyone’s crazy enough to give up their personal life for posting here, then they don’t deserve the 24 hrs off!
December 14, 2010 6:16 am at 6:16 am #1225440smartcookieMemberWow moderaters are QUICK tonight! You people are never on at this hour.
Thank you!
Maybe try to moderate more often at this hour! Not only tonight!
December 14, 2010 6:20 am at 6:20 am #1225441chesednameParticipantWhen did the mods start reading the suggestions?? 🙂
2 points for a good answer.
