Please provide your feedback to YWN on feature improvements, technical suggestions, and other wonderful ideas the Y.W. Editor would be sure to appreciate hearing from his loyal fans!
November 25, 2008 2:16 am at 2:16 am #1224822ujmParticipantHow about a setting to change ones screen name. (It used to exist, but disappeared.)
November 25, 2008 2:39 am at 2:39 am #1224823ChachamParticipanthow about closing the coffee room for good
November 25, 2008 3:15 am at 3:15 am #1224824smh1MemberI would like to see guidelines/rules for what can be said on this site. Also, sometimes things get posted, and then later deleted. Why were they posted to start with?
November 25, 2008 3:24 am at 3:24 am #1224825JewessMemberWill Hill, I’d think YW Editor would be a woman.
I do get a lot of laughs from reading comments here. I think spell-check is needed here.
November 25, 2008 3:29 am at 3:29 am #1224826TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberi second ujm’s motion … i will be graduating this year (I’YH) and will need to change it, and am not a big fan of multiple screen names
November 25, 2008 3:31 am at 3:31 am #1224827BogenParticipantHire a bunch of additional moderators so comments post within a reasonable timeframe. (Especially for those of us outside the US of A, who have long no-post periods.)
November 25, 2008 3:52 am at 3:52 am #1224828smh1Memberon first screen of topics, “last poster” and “freshness” are not always accurate. for example, right now for this thread, it says: 7 posts(true); last post: shtultzy guy(not true); and freshness: one hour(not true). The last post I see here is “Bogen, 17 min ago”
November 25, 2008 3:57 am at 3:57 am #1224829AnonymousInactiveFor those asking for rules, please see the attached link
November 25, 2008 4:08 am at 4:08 am #1224830mw13Participanti think stronger censoring of lashon hara and general bashing would be great.
November 25, 2008 7:04 am at 7:04 am #1224831RBS_gimmelParticipantJewess, FYI, the Editor is a man (I know him)
November 25, 2008 7:45 am at 7:45 am #1224832MommishMemberOn the topics screen, in addition to the topic name and most recent post/poster, I’d like the listings to show when the first post in a thread was made, and by whom.
November 25, 2008 9:14 am at 9:14 am #1224833mamashtakahMemberSimply not allowing comments on anything would be the best choice.

Took the words right off my keyboard.
November 25, 2008 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm #1224835smh1Memberthank you moderator for that link to rules. I suggest that it be more easily and obviously accessible, like maybe a link on the side. BTW, either due to more careful editing, or to maturing of posters, the tone of posts seems to be more pleasant and less angry, in general, the past few months.

I’m still relatively new here, and I really can’t imagine- how bad was it before???
November 25, 2008 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm #1224837smartcookieMemberHow about spellchecking? So careless mistakes will get corrected and bad mistakes will not look so bad anymore…. Some errors are so ridiculous.
November 26, 2008 1:23 am at 1:23 am #1224838The Big OneParticipantSuggestion:
More topics (before they disappear into the abyss).
November 26, 2008 2:03 am at 2:03 am #1224839zimbyMemberHhhmmm, cant think of anything 🙂
November 26, 2008 2:09 am at 2:09 am #1224840yashrus20Memberhmm…Maybe a shadchanim room or is this too public? or mabye YWN can come up w/ a way to make it like ride sharing where its a bit private?
November 27, 2008 2:42 am at 2:42 am #1224841Y.W. EditorKeymasterJust added 10 additional threads to the front page. Now showing 40.

November 27, 2008 3:16 am at 3:16 am #1224845oomisParticipantI would like to see an option for ONLY seeing the new posts appearing on the list, but not having to wade through the ones you already have read to get to the others. Even with “Latest Reply” you still might have to scroll through a long page or even two, because you haven’t yet read the ten other posts from before the latest one.
November 27, 2008 3:39 am at 3:39 am #1224846asdfghjklParticipantabsolutly none! you guys do a great job!
November 27, 2008 4:13 pm at 4:13 pm #1224847Will HillParticipantY.W. Editor:
Thanks for additing additional threads to the main page. Big help…
It seems the more topics you put on the main page, the busier the Coffee Room gets!
(Most people probably only look at the main page.)
Keep up the great job.
December 1, 2008 7:35 am at 7:35 am #1224848chaimssParticipantI’d like a feature where we were e-mailed when someone replied to a topic we were subscribed too. Especially with news stories, it’s a shtickel annoying to have to keep checking back.
December 2, 2008 12:30 am at 12:30 am #1224849JosephParticipantI agree with chaimss. That would be a very useful feature (email subscription to comments), and is easily implemented with a free WordPress plugin.
December 2, 2008 3:13 am at 3:13 am #1224850mw13Participanti third that motion!
(and no, i don’t know if that is proper english, but you get the point.)
December 2, 2008 4:45 am at 4:45 am #1224851xeroxMemberDitto! (well in this case, i ??fourth?? that motion??)
December 2, 2008 2:55 pm at 2:55 pm #1224852smh1MemberEditor, could we please have some feedback on all these suggestions? are any f them workable? thank you so much!
December 3, 2008 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm #1224853feivelParticipantget a new “joke of the day” editor. 😉
and change the name to “joke of the week”
December 4, 2008 2:03 am at 2:03 am #1224855JosephParticipantHow about posting a timestamp in the coffee room instead of X days ago.
December 4, 2008 2:18 am at 2:18 am #1224856The Big OneParticipantHow about a banner advertisement on the front page of YW for the Coffee Room, since most reader of the main site overlook the Coffee Room link and don’t even know about it??
December 4, 2008 6:01 am at 6:01 am #1224857Will HillParticipantPost comments IN THE ORDER RECEIVED. Many times newer comments are posted earlier, sometimes MUCH EARLIER. This disrupts and makes difficult the conversation in the thread (and easy to miss a older message moderated later than newer ones.)
This is in addition to the long times it takes to review and post messages by the mods.
December 4, 2008 7:12 am at 7:12 am #1224858asdfghjklParticipanthow abt update recent posts even late at night!!! no sleep for the weary!!!
December 5, 2008 1:22 am at 1:22 am #1224859The Big OneParticipantBTW I have a tech problem w/YW. When I post to the main site (not the coffee room) it doesn’t show my screen name under my comment. Instead it says “Anonymous.” mariner mentioned he has the same problem.
I think it happens to whoever registered their screen name in the coffee room – the screen name appears on comments in the coffee room, but says Anonymous on the main site.
If someone registers a screen name on the main site, it shows up there as well as in the coffee room.
December 5, 2008 2:35 am at 2:35 am #1224860Y.W. EditorKeymasterWe are reading all of your input, and as soon as we get time will try and make everyone happy!
Anything else?
Now in return, the news room is in desperate need of a heater, a flat-screen, and this dial-up Internet just has to go! Anyone?
December 5, 2008 2:49 am at 2:49 am #1224861asdfghjklParticipantyw editor
i’ll sponser you guys the flat screen!!! where do you want me to ship it to???
December 5, 2008 5:24 am at 5:24 am #1224862Chuck SchwabParticipantThank You Mr. Editor for hearing all these good suggestions, and helping everyone out by implementing them!
Here is something I think would be useful. If a moderator rejects a comment for whatever reason, send the poster an email with the original message so he could edit it so it is appropriate and he can repost it without the objectionable parts. If someone writes a whole megila of a comment and it never gets posted, the original poster doesn’t have a copy of his original message and may not want to type it all over (without the objectionable parts.) Also, maybe the moderator can include a note in the email why it was rejected.
If the moderator edits out the objectionable parts (instead of rejecting it outright) , which is actually a better idea if possible, then just out a little note where it was edited with something like “edited by moderator”. I don’t think it is necessary to make the poster feel bad by writing WHY it was edited for everyone else to see, the poster will get the hint anyways.
December 5, 2008 5:39 am at 5:39 am #1224863AnonymousInactivemany times we delete the comment “why hasn’t my post been published” this can occur anywhere from 5 hours down to 5 minutes after the initial post was submitted. To take the time to send the post back with the objectional parts highlighed would be extremely time consuming.
sometimes we will edit a post with just the deleted by YW Moderator comment other times we delete post entirely.
sometimes, rarely, but sometimes a comment is added as to why the comment was deleted because the person submitting the objectional post did not get the hint after several deletions.
December 5, 2008 7:55 am at 7:55 am #1224864BogenParticipantDid anyone already suggest adding new moderators to help things move along?
December 5, 2008 6:49 pm at 6:49 pm #1224865JewessMemberCan we get emails telling us why our comments got deleted or will that be too time consuming? Half my posts are in Cyber Heaven or Hell and I get confused by the things you guys choose to post or not post.
December 5, 2008 7:03 pm at 7:03 pm #1224866JosephParticipantJewess,
The rule of thumb is if its red, its a no-no.
December 9, 2008 12:34 am at 12:34 am #1224867TruehonestyMemberSuggestion: Please dont close threads because topics have been covered in other places. Not always can everyone read every thread and often threads tangent off to other subjects and we may not know that it was covered elsewhere. Also different people have different viewpoints and clearer pictures emerge. There are enough obvious reasons to close threads so I dont see why this should be a reason. What does it bother you to have things repeated in other threads? When the subject has been fully covered (again), naturally it will peter out.
Many thanks!
December 9, 2008 12:47 am at 12:47 am #1224868JosephParticipantI second Truehonesty.
I think threads have been closed too quickly lately.
