and i bet many shtreimel-wearers wouldn’t mind a straw hat in the heat of summer. whew, do i feel bad sometimes for our chasidish brothers in those fur hats…!!
No it wasn’t a top hat, I’m very ignorant on the subject. Hearing straw made me think of this farm hat I once had on Purim. It only works if it has that little feather.
The likelihood of them being paper depends on what region it is manufactured in. Asian hats are likely to be made of paper (toyo or shantung) while American (North or South) hats are likely straw.
