With the outrageous increase in power bills, more and more people are being compelled to turn to solar energy systems. With the cost of living going up, times won’t necessarily get any easier. However, you can change the trend and purchase a residential solar power panel for your home.

    MODS,

Is this some shameless ad? I thought that you don’t allow such things.

    real-brisker,

I thought that it was against the rules of the CR.

Furthermore, I think that advertising would bring down the quality of the discussions.

Without getting into advertising, I just want to say I agree with you Adelio about the importance of using natural resources for energy and product use. Besides solar power, which is probably the easiest method, there are wind turbines, garden roofs, water mills, and using natural materials for homes and appliances. These methods have been around since the beginning of time, and there is a reason people still use them. Not only will they save you money over time, but they’re much better for the environment.

Don’t forget geothermal. We would have to cut down all the trees around our house just to get some sun but we can dig without disturbing much.

Your’e right, Chanie, but drilling costs a lot of money. Also, I could be wrong, but aren’t there earthquake-related issues to geothermal drilling?

MDG – Yes, It is against the rules, but not because of the reason you stated. I just wanted to know why it bothered you.

according to the chatter on the web, you can, if you are somewhat tech-abled, to buy the photovoltaic cells in bulk very cheap, and cobble together what would be a 10-20k panel for about $200. The other of the big threesome expenses is batteries, and the inverter. The weakest link is probably the batteries. For the really adventurous, there is/ was a large market for 12 or 24 volt appliances and lighting, for the RV and marine crowd. Some dual wiring would be needed, and you could do without the inverter. Other solar options are water heating and its variants. In the US, it is easier to get the cutting edge evacuated tube collectors, than it is in sunny EY. These are way more efficient that the flat black panels, and in the northern climes, that efficiency may just what makes it work, and variable angle mounts for winter and summer would be icing on the cake. Note that you must run the numbers on any system to rate its payout, liftime against cost/saving.

real-brisker – like I said “I think that advertising would bring down the quality of the discussions.”

We have a great group of people who seems to be concerned with each other, and I think that consumerism would bring us all down. Some might care more for money than their fellow.

MDG – But that is not why it is against the rules.

I was answering you question above of why it bothers me.

To be honest, I never read the rules.
