Remember when socks used to be made of cotton and the feeling of putting on a brand new pair of socks was מעין עולם הבא?
December 25, 2017 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm #1436241👑RebYidd23ParticipantIf you have sensory issues, you can always buy socks marketed for that purpose and recoil in shock and horror when you discover that the manufacturers changed the recipe and the socks are now scratchy and misshapen.
December 25, 2017 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm #1436300akupermaParticipantSocks are often made of cotton now (as well as wool and many manufactured fabrics). New socks, feel like, new socks.
December 25, 2017 7:30 pm at 7:30 pm #1436377BaltimoreMavenParticipant“Modal” socks are unbelievably soft. Unfortunately they don’t last too long.

10 years ago, you could buy Hanes socks and assume they were made of cotton without even looking at the package.
Today, you would be hard-pressed to find a package of 100% cotton Hanes socks.
I’m just using Hanes as an example. The same is true of other companies.
December 26, 2017 9:08 am at 9:08 am #1436479akupermaParticipantAll products require checking labels. As a frum Jew, you are obvious used to the idea of needing to check labels. This does discriminate against those who don’t read English but you obviously can read English.
December 26, 2017 9:13 am at 9:13 am #1436491MenoParticipantAll products require checking labels. As a frum Jew….
My point was not that I have a problem with checking labels. My point was that cotton was once the standard (so much so that you could assume it without checking labels), but that is not the case anymore.

that’s cuz when the slaves were freed the plantation owners couldn’t figure out how to get the cotton picked so we only had enough to last us til recently and that’s it.
December 27, 2017 10:00 am at 10:00 am #1437290👑RebYidd23ParticipantOver the past ten years?
December 27, 2017 10:14 am at 10:14 am #1437319MenoParticipantSo I know this started off as a rant but I actually do need new socks. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I bought some from amazon and the description said it was something like 44% cotton, but after wearing one pair I noticed that the actual package said 97% polyester and some other stuff
December 27, 2017 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm #1438407☢️ Rand0m3x 🎲ParticipantSounds like false advertising.
(On an unnecessary but related note, I wore multi-colored socks for
the first time this past weekend, because someone had opened the
dryer that mine were in and they weren’t ready in time for Shabbos.)December 28, 2017 8:31 pm at 8:31 pm #1439063geshmakecholentloverParticipantTip: don’t wear any socks
December 28, 2017 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm #1439074JosephParticipantRandom: You don’t have an extra pair of socks?

There are a lot of intelligent, educated, worldly people in the CR. It surprises me that after a week, no one has commented on this statement.
Whether said seriously or not, this is how hatred is spread.
January 1, 2018 5:34 pm at 5:34 pm #1440682JosephParticipantpt, whilst I agree with you that the comment you quoted was very unfair in its negative portrayal of southern plantation owners, I must say that my eved knani is a real sweet guy who does our dishes really well.
January 1, 2018 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm #1440734☢️ Rand0m3x 🎲ParticipantThe comment was obviously in jest, and plantation-owner-hatred isn’t a thing.
Joseph, I do have multiple pairs of socks, but all except
the ones I was wearing at the time had been washed.January 1, 2018 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm #1440735🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantPicture this – I can only assume that the intelligent and worldly CR readers understood that it was not a comment on the slaves but rather on the incompetence of the rich pampered slave owners.
January 1, 2018 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #1440777Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantOf course on the other hand, the unintelligent or unworldly CR readers might not have understood that… 🙂
(that was a joke, and I have no one specific in mind.).
