So theres this guy I know and we learn in the same beis medrash and hes like long time no see and Im like huh? We made some small talk a little over a week ago for like 2 minutes. He totally didnt remember it happens to be he was out of town for over a week. To me it was very weird that he had zero recollection of it. I almost never forget if I spoke to someone and I often remember what we spoke about even if it was about nothing important but to me it seems like many people can talk to you and a few days later forget totally about the whole thing unless it was a long or important conversation. So let me ask you guys is it the norm that if you only chatted for a minute or 2 with someone it gets deleted from your brain after a few days so if you dont see them or talk to them for like 2 weeks it feels like much longer?
Some pple who lead very busy lives small talk is not significant enough for them to recall… It’s not because you are not important it’s because they have so much on in their lives… You may not lead such a busy lifestyle so it’s easy for you to take every little thing into an accountable memory.
By me it isn’t at all about those conversation not being important, it is about how many over the top, sleep deprived, crisis filled moments I have in the subsequent hours that pushes the conversation to the way back, long time ago.
WIY – that story happened to me once, but I was the guy who didn’t remember. I only remembered later that evening that,’oh yeah, I DID speak to him about a week ago’. But it was such a short conversation i didn’t remember what it was about (probably because I was preoccupied with other important things) but it was very uncommon and unusual. (I hope!)
