i am an older bochur who has learned hilchos melicha, basar vechalav, and taruvos, and would like to take a smicha exam for yoreh yoreh, I was wondering if anyone knows which choshuveh rabbonim test for smicha, and what style tests they give, and how hard the test is, and how much they charge for a test. I am located in NY so any rav in the ny/nj area would be great.

1. A fly falls into a thick cholent and cannot be found? Half a fly? Piece of sheretz?
2. A piece of issur which is raui lehiskabed is mixed among heter. Then it was cut up into pieces some of which are raui lehiskabed and some are not.
3. Why is the din of od kama naga different by a knife from a spoon?
4. I stirred a pot of meat with dairy spoon, then still without realizing, added more meat.

I could email a mod Reb Zalman Nechemia Goldberg’s test. You can ask a friend in Yerushalaim to drop it off at his house. It is open book, take as long as you want. If nothing else, it is great practice

hello and pba: what about if only a carapace (a piece of the fly’s wing) falls in? They are almost transparent. Do we say that theoretically it can be removed? Or do we say that it can’t be seen? Just talking off the top of my head I would say that something that thin would dissolve anyway, but I wouldn’t give the food to somebody based on that svara. What do you think?

I was tested by Rav Yechezkel Roth (Karlsburger Rav in BP). There is no charge, took almost 2 hours (with many interuptions since his phone was ringing off the hook with sheilois).

Honestly, whatever the halacha says, I would throw the entire pot out, If I knew even a tiny piece of a bug was in my food, I would never be able to eat it, even if it was ENTIRELY removed. I once had a really yummy tuna sandwich on my desk at work. I was about to pick it up, when a cockroach merely walked past it (NEVER touched it at all). I could not bring myself to take a bite.

And, Sifra Kedoshim: One should not say, I don’t want the pigs flesh, rather he should say I want it, but my Father in heaven has forbidden it.
So you should really want that cockroach, but restrain yourself.

the chofetz chaim roshei yeshiva do smicha tests in queens.. very reliabe, accepted by everyone.. gluck and study hard!! i know that the entire chofetz chaim yeshiva that takes the test uses audio review 4 one part thats partcularly challenging.. i know thats its rlly intense so gluck!! like a couple of hours long..

that’s rav zng’s test?
Is it that easy to get smicha? Just learn the answers take the test and you have smicha. This makes it into a joke.
pbstein: Yes it is.
WIY: R’ Zalman Nechemiah Goldberg is one of the more respected Smichas out there. And that’s the point. As long as you know the answers, you can Pasken most everyday Shailos. Hence, you have earned Smicha . You also need a minimum requirement of years spent in Beis Midrash learning, I believe.

So anyone can just learn in advanced, take the test and is a Rabbi? That is a little scary. I guess they should make smicha standard if they are already doing this. That anyone who goes to yeshiva should by default take the test and get smicha.

I think Rabbi Goldberg gives are real oral bechina for someone who genuinely wants to pasken.

i was told that one needs to have completed the written test, oral test, and letters of recommendation from a rav about your knowledge, learning skills, midos etc…there is also a test on nidda that can be taken
Just Emes: There’s not necessarily an oral “test”, but at the very least he Schmoozes with you in learning. And you need a letter of recommendation from a Rav.
