I was wondering if anyone around here has done this surgery, or knows anyeone who did it, and can give me some details and info about it…
How was the experience of actually doing it?
How do you feel now that you’ve done it?
Is it something you regret or feel like you might in the future?
any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

May 8, 2013 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #952857sunriseMemberI am considering it.
Being though that this surgery is not being done for too long yet I am concerned about the long term affects it can have.
Do you know anyone who has done it already a few years ago?

What was your recovery time after the initial surgery – like going back to work (desk job but requires concentration)? What are your restrictions as far as eating? What are the possibilities if you are not losing weight as rapidly as you/doctor would like – I think there is possibility with lap band to make tighter/looser?
May 12, 2013 4:15 am at 4:15 am #952861HealthParticipantWhy would anyone go for surgery without first trying diet and exercise and then trying the lap band? This is the second topic about surgery in the recent past and it seems no one mentioned all the possible complications.
May 12, 2013 8:40 pm at 8:40 pm #952862pilot1MemberYes its all done laparoscopical, the surgery takes about 40 min and your home the next day for most ppl, most ppl are back to work after 3 to 4 days. for the first week your on liquids only water ice chips that’s phase 1. Then for 2 to 3 weeks your on the shakes 3 times a day then you can start with mushy foods like yogurt puree food slowly, you get to work very closely with you Dietitian all the time.! thing about the sleeve surgery its PERMANENT! Remember this surgery is only a tool to help you loose weight there is work like exercise and sticking to the eating habits, Whoever did the surgery is very happy and are loosing nicely. You cant have coffee till your Dr gives you the green light and no soda there is a list what you can and what you cant have your dietitian works with you and will tell you everything and you got to take vitamins after the surgery like a multi and iron depending on your Dr request. and you will have to be on the shakes prior surgery. feel free to ask any more questions, HATZLACHA RABA.
May 13, 2013 1:17 am at 1:17 am #952863masonMembermost things depend on the particular surgeon. my surgeon keeps the patients in the hospital for 3 days. i had my surgery on Wednesday and was back in work by Tuesday but most people take 2 weeks. my surgeons post op diet is also different then pilot1s . after about 2 days my surgeon wants his patients to go straight to mushys and that last for three weeks and is done together with shakes until you can get enough protein in through actual food. also even though the sleeve is permanent and the lap band isn’t many, many lap band patients needed theirs removed and were unsuccessful, many more then with the sleeve. in addition to soda and coffee your also not supposed to drink with a straw in the beginning. you will not lose weight if you eat the wrong things. pilot1 said the key- its a tool and an awesome tool it is but its up to the individual to use it correctly .hatzlacha
May 13, 2013 2:29 pm at 2:29 pm #952864sunriseMemberHealth, what makes you think that people looking into surgery did not already try to diet for years and years and only decided to look into surgery once they saw that nothing else works for them?
I was wondering, anyone here did it more than a year ago?
I heard that for the first year the weight falls off more or less as imagined.. but the challenege is after that, to keep it up…has anyone had experience with this?
how long does it take from when you decide to go ahead with the surgery until you do it?
Any info about nursing after having the surgery done?
Also, if the stomach can stretch and you can gain back the weight, what makes this permanent?
May 13, 2013 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #952865pilot1MemberSunrise,how long does it take from when you decide to go ahead with the surgery until you do it? It really depends on your insurance what they require some 3 months some longer, my insurance requested 6 months, you got to proof that your trying to loose weight, you got to take blood work and an upper GI and an endoscopy get a psychological evaluation:) (don’t worry its easy and fun)and Dr clearance, that’s also you need time to get the appointments.when you see the list you might say oh boy! but trust me i said the same but its worth it.
