If there is no heter to not sleep in the Sukkah (i.e. it is safe), why aren’t more people sleeping in the Sukkah?
October 9, 2011 10:37 pm at 10:37 pm #816939am yisrael chaiParticipantSo start a Seuss Sukkah Sleepers Squad and take sleeping attendance.
Although be warned: many sleep in special indoor sukkahs where the ceiling retracts, and you may be cited for trespassing

October 9, 2011 11:04 pm at 11:04 pm #816942HaLeiViParticipantOr you can put out a new book, promoting sleeping in the Sukkah. But remember: only 50 words!

October 10, 2011 2:32 am at 2:32 am #816944HealthParticipantSam2 -“What’s the Heter for Bochurim?”
The same Rema that you used for married people -the line before that says – we are Meikel not to sleep in the Sukkah because of the cold.
October 10, 2011 2:39 am at 2:39 am #816945Sam2ParticipantHealth: And what’s the Heter in places where it’s not cold? Most places in America isn’t like Poland. I’ve seen people in Florida not sleep in a Sukkah. How do you justify that?
October 10, 2011 2:46 am at 2:46 am #816946HealthParticipant“Sorry to disagree with you Rabbi, but there is a Chiyuv of Kein Todoroo. So 40 degrees can be changed with a heater or using a sleeping bag.”
This I posted based on the MB -Taf Resh Mem #18 -the last line.
October 10, 2011 2:47 am at 2:47 am #816947zahavasdadParticipantFlorida has Mosquitoes bad.
People who camp there are supposed to use a Mosquito net.
October 10, 2011 3:02 am at 3:02 am #816948HealthParticipantSam2 -“Health: And what’s the Heter in places where it’s not cold?”
I never slept in the Sukkah until recently. (I did when I was in EY.) I was Soimeach on Metztayer either because of cold and/or danger. (And when I was married I had a third Heter.)
The MB says (above post) cold isn’t a Chesoron of Kein Todoroo until the last line which I try to do now (sleeping bag). Seems to be a Machlokes.
As far as danger -Sharrei Teshuva there -SK Heh -that brings an Achron who argues on this Rema. Also MB #20 brings Achronim whom say B’deieved you are Yotze eating in such a Sukkah!
October 10, 2011 1:31 pm at 1:31 pm #816949mw13ParticipantAs great as it is to have these halachic discussions, I’d just like to remind everyone to ask their Rov what to do Halacha li’maaseh, not rely on an anonymous chat room.
October 10, 2011 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm #816950amusedParticipantNow ya tell me, mw13? I already fired my posek once I found this haunt.

Why does these reminder posts pop up every once in awhile? Is it because these posters think that e/o forgets it’s a coffee room?

E/o would agree that you can’t be Yotze sleeping in such a Succah, but in my post above, not e/o agrees with him about eating in such a Succah!
October 12, 2011 5:23 am at 5:23 am #816954ChachamParticipantok you expect me to read every post. and who is this not everyone agreeing about not being yotze eating in such a succa. the rama seems pretty clear to me.
October 12, 2011 5:41 am at 5:41 am #816955mddMemberMod 80, the heterim, you mentioned, are not really strong heterim. They are more of a limud zechus on the makilim. The Gemora should have mentioned that all married men are potur from sleeping in the sukka.
I am here, your family lives in the US?
Chacham, other Achronim. Look in MB.
October 12, 2011 1:29 pm at 1:29 pm #816956zahavasdadParticipantFrom the current weather report, this seems moot, I dont think anyone is going to be in the Succah until Shabbos
