A frum magazine had an article last week suggesting purim costumes made out of cardboard boxes.
That sounds fine until you look at the suggestions, which include dressing up as a fish tank or a tape measure (!) and look extremely uncomfortable, impossible to sit down with and one of them even restricts arm movement to below elbow only.
I don’t think any kid who’s friends are dressing up as policemen, builders or pirates is like ‘I really want to be a tape measure!’ (yes I know costumes have evolved, but you get my drift), so I’m guessing it’s the parent who loves the idea and can’t wait to try it out on their sheifele.
Why are we promoting outrageous costumes? Who does that to their children? Is this not bordering on child abuse? Or am I just on a baseless rant?
