    It’s just another anti-fedora rant.

    Like saying no one should buy a car because not everyone can afford a Ferrari.

    #1136798

    @The Goq: The translation is:

    We hereby inform you that starting Pesach 5776, the style of the chareidim will change from wearing a fedora to wearing flat caps, due to the exorbitant prices of fedoras.

    All those who are buying a new hat are requested to buy only a flat cap and not a fedora, in order that they shouldn’t separate themselves from the klal, and so they shouldn’t breach the kabalos of the binei torah, chas vishalom.

    @Dash: This isn’t a rant. It’s a notification and request, so that struggling families shouldn’t have to spend money just because a fedora is a necessity in the yeshiva world. Not a fair comparison to saying no one should buy a car.

    There are different kinds of cars

    One can drive a 1995 ford Country Squire , one can drive a 2010 Honda Odeyssey or one can drie a 2016 Lexus

    they are not the same because they are cars

    At least flat caps won’t blow around in the wind.

    If everyone would wear a flat cap, they could keep it in their shtender and not have to go to the hat rack before mincho or maariv.

    So, from now on chareidim will stop buying fedoras, because Pesach around the corner.

    Will prices on fedoras get down? Will prices on flat caps get up?

    I think a nice red tartan pattern with a pom-pom on top would make a nice addition to any man’s hat collection.

    Do the Satmar-style Beaver Hits cost less than the Litvish-style Fedoras?

    This sounds like its coming from a Bernie Sanders supporter. Keep your socialism. Everyone doesn’t have to be the same.

    #1136813

    @apushatayid, those in charge of deciding styles.

    @cv
    , I sure hope the prices on caps won’t go down, that would defeat the whole purpose.

    @YW
    Moderator-29, no this isn’t Purim shtik!

    @Meno
    , a Kangol cap (thanks apushatayid for that word)

    @Burnt Steak, you’re right in theory but the fact is that unless there are a lot of people doing this, it will be impossible to effect.

    Kangol is a brand.

    For what its worth, for $60 you can buy a black fedora at Macys.

    I know people here who wear sandalim year-round. I wear my sandals from March or April to November, sometimes December. Yes, even on Shabbat and Chagim.

    Meaning, they have 2 pinches, a brim etc…? Yes.

    “Do you know frum people who wear those Macy’s hats to shul?”

    Me. I dont question people where they buy their hats so I dont know about anyone else.

    Besides, who cares.

    Whom are you asking? If you’re asking me, the answer is no, I do not wear a hat for davening. Few people on my yishuv do. (For the record, I do not wear a suit, sport coat, or tie, either.)

    This is obviously a joke and a figment of someones imagination. And if any real sign was put up it has no backing and few if any people will listen to it. But the truth is, the is not a new concept. In some chassidishe circles, bachurim wear “kashketlach” in the weekdays instead of regular biber hits for this very purpose, the fact that they are more affordable. Kashketlach are small caps worn by children under bar mitzvah on Shabbos in some chassdish circles. Similar to what the Chofetz Chaim is known to have worn. In many places in Europe, even men wore them during the week.

    The Macy hats are not crushable. This means that if bent or creased, they are ruined. They are of significantly lesser quality than the Italian Fedoras that are generally worn by the Yeshivish community.

    I guess if you need a foldable, bendable, crushable fedora then you shouldnt buy one from Macys. If it is these qualities you are looking for, a baseball cap from Modells would do the trick. They bounce right back into shape.

    Does Macy’s carry their black fedora in most of their branches or only in their Herald Square flagship store?

    Do any of the heimishe hat stores have a similarly priced black fedora, even if of the same lesser quality as the one carried by Macy’s?

    You could also wear a colorful beanie with a propeller.

    I think the propeller would break off if someone tried to crush, bend or fold the hat. Its why I went with the baseball cap.

    Joseph, why dont you call their public relations department and ask them.

    What happened to the propeller beanies?

    Why do our local hat stores not sell them?

    Where can I buy one?

    So much more stylish and versatile than a Bors…
