Ford just released that the’re coming out with a self-park option in their new lincoln. Maybe that’s going to be the Yeshuah.I heard the self park in the Lexus sucks anybody tried it already?

Why can’t someone simply develop and axel tire/wheel system where the wheels rotate completely perpendicular to the curb, so that the car can literally slide sideways into place? Or is that the “smart car” I have heard about? I have thought about this for the last twenty years. I am a LOUSY parallel parker, first to admit it, and I would be thrilled for this type of innovation. It would also save space, because people would be able to park closer without having difficulty getting in and out.

silly the problem is not the actual parking its finding where to park!

ive noticed that just waiting around for 3 minutes on a block will yield a parking spot! someone is bound to leave any minute, especially if its a busy street. its worth the wait, otherwise youll circle around and find that someone else already grabbed the spot

Mea Culpa. I didn’t read the car thread at all. Now I will.

I just read the smart-car thread. It doesn’t sound like what I have in mind. I mean a full-size car, not a car only large enough to fit two, but no more, and scrunched up uncomfortably, at that.

    #633426

bym, not always are you able to stop for 3 minutes on a block without getting honked at, forced to move or a cop coming…but when you are able to wait than it prob. is a good idea because like you said if you move you loose it…

but remember: if someone else is also waiting for a spot and about to get it…do NOT zoom up from behind or in fron of them and snatch the spot! it’s not courteous and nice and definitely not worth upsetting someone else !

That happened to me a few times, and the other drivers knew exactly what they were doing (in Boro Park, btw). They even smirked at me when I told them I had been waiting for the spot. I have been guilty myself of inadvertently taking a space that someone was waiting for, because I came to the spot from a different direction, and couldn’t see another car standing a bit away, waiting for the car to pull out. As soon as the driver of the other car told me he had been waiting, I immediately appologized and pulled away.

oomis I actually thought of it myself.I think the answer is that it’s very hard to make such wheels that wouldn’t interfere with the driving, imagine a *360 turn in middle of the highway! The only thing is if while driving it would lock and would be like regular wheels(probably also a hard thing to make),or there should be another set of wheels that come out from under the car like a plane just for parking.Anyhow i afraid somebody thought about it already and obviously saw it’s unrealistic.

Bored@work did you ever drive the self-park lexus? just curious how it works.Does it also find a parking for you(like the lincoln thats coming out)? And when you wanna park do you just push a button? I heard it’s not too good wonder why.

For those who seem to be unsure, I want to put this issue to rest once and for all.

    I AM A LADY.

    I am female.

    I am nekaiva.

I (try to be) a Bas Yisroel.

I say “she-asani kirtzono,” every day.

    Any questions?

I am unaware that I could be acquainted with anyone personally on this blog (but if I were, they would let me know, because my friends all know my screen name). In any case, I would proud to call any one of you my friends. In spite of our very different (and sometimes angry-sounding opinions), I think you are all a terrific bunch of people.

Why, THANK you very much!!!!!! 🙂

And to clear up one other thing, I wish I could say I were, but I have a lo-o-o-o-ng way to go before I could be referred to as a tzadeikes. I wish…

    #633444

question- why is waiting for a parking spot better then circling? By stopping you cause traffic to back up, people cant get around you, and a lot more honking! It is the same with double-parking. Circle or take public transportation. I know some cities dont have a decent bus/train/subway system (or one at all) but if your area has one- PLEASE TAKE IT! It is really annoying to see people drive their car to go down the block… and then end up parking three blocks away.

I dont like public transportation so I will drive even if I have to walk from my parking spot…

I guess in the situation that you mention, it may be better to circle. If the road is not wide enough for a half-decent driver to get by your pulled-over car, you should keep moving. Otherwise, sitting beats circling for a number of reasons:

    1) It is just as likely that someone will pull out right where you are sitting as it is that someone will pull out near the random spot you are at while circling. And…

    2) If you are sitting, then you have chosen the most convenient location to park

    3) Sitting is less stressful than driving around in circles, especially when you have to face red lights, double parked cars, stop and go, etc.

    4) It uses less gas, so you waste less (both from a yiddishe gelt perspective and an environmental one)

    5) There is a better chance that someone will notice that you want a spot and inform you of one opening up.

as far away as you can get!!!!

    #633451

ooomis, u make me laugh! didnt think you were a real real tzaddekes, was just sayin your nice…a good person..but aspire to be one and ya never kno!

blahblah, thats not nice, brook def has its benefits

and i agree with bored@work, i absolutely despise public transportation and besides for my year in e”y i havent used buses in ages ! i much rather drive there (even if it isnt so far) and have to find parking!

and as long as the street is wide enough for ppl to pass by you prob are better off waiting than circling. trust me, i’ve tried it. but remember to consider other ppl and make sure you arent blocking the street!

Blahblah, I lived in Brooklyn for 5 years. I hate Brooklyn – its gross, dirty, houses are small and close together, there is NO nature (except for that lone tree that grows in Brooklyn LOL)…

But…if you don’t have a car its very convenient. The grocery store is right there, shuls abound and every Jewish amenity is around the corner.

I actually like public transportation – many times taking it is cheaper and faster (such as getting to Manhattan during rush hour). Its also environmentally irresponsible to use your car many times.

Hope somebody could help me on this one: A couple of days ago in borough park as i was pulling over to park a russian driver knocked down my side view mirror. Since it was 12:30 at night i wasn’t in the mood of waiting for a cop so i just took his cellphone number and his license plate. The guy promised to pay and i naively believed he will pay me.I tried calling him several times but he never picked up.Finally i left him a message that i will call police that’s when he called back and yelled at me to stop calling him and he banged down the phone. Does anybody know if a police report can help me now? Or maybe i could report him as a hit and run? I greatly would appreciate any info on such a situation.

rosh your wasting your time a new mirror is like 65 bucks once you start with police reports its a huge hassle its not worth your time

Although Blahblah has a point, but creating a report has advantages and I believe you have about 60 days if you want to write one.

Mayan what do you think are the advantages? and blabla it costed me 100 dollars and the point is not so much the money it’s the audacity this person has not to pay for something that was obviously his fault!

rosh what kind of car do you drive and how exactly do you plan on catching the guy

    #633462

Advantages: 1. In case you need to deal with an insurance company (yours or his) in the future they will want to see a report. 2. This person will hopefully be more careful in the future.

SJSinNYC, what do you mean brooklyn has no nature?? We have raccoons, oppossums, squrriels, tons of feral cats, pigeons, blue jays, cardinals, woodpeckers, starlings, seagulls, crows. While living in my apartment on Ocean Parkway, I have seen not once, but Twice!! from my 3rd floor window, a sparrow hawk eating an actual sparrow!! The Second time, My husband and close friend were there to witness it. If they can make it here, they can make it anywhere!! LOL. Okay so we don’t have lions, and tigers and bears, oh my!!

I guess you may consider some people part of nature, but animals do what Hashem intended them to do. People have free will. I think it is in insult to the animals to compare people to animals. Call them savages if you must!!!

beacon: You guessed it i drive an auston martin(only in the negative version-the oldest jalopy in boro park-just kidding) If i tell you which car i drive and you know the story with my mirror you might figure me out.
