We all know what a terrible parking situation there’s in borough park and anywhere in Nyc.The question is what can we do to make it better?some suggestions; When a driver in front of you is trying to park don’t try to squeeze through, rather just stop and give that driver enough space to park comfortably. Also be aware that beeping doesn’t help the other driving concentrate! Anything else?

either take mass transit or ride a bike or move to another place

That doesn’t help ppl that drive samy, with a little consideration we can change the situation quite a bit.

Attention all fellow brooklyn people! When you see someone trying to get into a spot, don’t pull in from behind them to grab it! It’s disgusting!

I did that once because I didn’t realized there was someone waiting for the spot but when I parked and he told me he was waiting I immediately pulled out! show some consideration!

When parking at the corner, many times there are two white lines. (I think the second line is just to stop earlier on some streets because of trucks/cars turning. Correct me if I’m wrong.) You are allowed to park until the crosswalk white line over the other one. Many people will park behind the second line thereby losing a parking space. I know it’s only one space…. but every spot is integral!

    #633370

Move to the suburbs where they have nice things they call trees and grass and no restriction parking spaces.

and if youre parking where theres space for another car, dont take up all the space!!! this happens to me pretty much every day and i get SO annoyed–there are always cars that take up two spots and dont leave room for another

BYM – i’m not the type that’s always “dan le’caf zchus” even though i should be. (i feel like those people are more naive than frum – though it’s probably better than my way…) anyway, i used to get mad when i saw people hogging two spots. when i park in a big spot i try to move all the way up or back depending on how the guys in front and back of me are parked. one day i parked and when i returned four hours later i saw that my car was hogging up two spots. sometimes it’s not on purpose. i guess i learned my lesson on judging others!

The worst thing i find is when your forced to touch the car in front or in back of you to get in the space, and to your luck there’s someone sitting there, and unfortunately he believes you did the worst crime imaginable!C’mon don’t you do the same thing when you park and i’m not there?!There’s no tolerance even when it’s obvious that there’s no other way to park. And when the driver sitting there is a Goy It’s Mamash Pichuach Nefesh!

We accidently tapped some shvartze car while parking out the mall a few years ago. They were in the car and came out to check for any damage. There wasn’t any. We thought everything was okay. We came back to a broken window. They apparently broken in. Thank goodness we had a old car and the trunk could only be opened with a key. (the button in the glove compartment that would have opened the trunk thankfully didn’t work.) The only way to keep that trunk open was to use a pole to keep it from slamming shut. I also think I should warn you, not to park blocking a pedastrian ramp either. I just saw last week on East 8th street and Quentin Rd, a woman get a ticket even though she was parked after the white lines, she got $165.00 ticket for blocking the ramp even though she was past the white lines . I assumed she was parked okay and wondered why she even got a ticket from the Officer in the first place. My curiousity was answered when I just happend to see the owner get to her car and asked her what was the ticket for and then We both noticed the ramp was after the white lines and her car was blocking it. That corner is very deceptive.

    mazal77,

What’s a “shvartze car”? I’m sorry your car was broken into, but how do you know who did it?

She said “They apparently had broken in.” That is an educated guess. (Use your imagination regarding what she meant regarding the type of punk she described.)

    Joseph,

The only meaning I can guess is that because the car was dark-colored, it was difficult to see (perhaps it was nighttime) & therefore mazal77 touched it while parking. Regrettably, my imagination may not be as vivid as yours.

mazal77 didn’t leave much to the imagination, so you don’t require any vividness. What made it necessary for you to inquire regarding the meaning of her statement?

You should feel VERY BLESSED that you don’t have to circle for parking for approx. 1 1/2 hours a night! For city dwellers in another borough, it’s the norm – as crazy as it seems… and don’t even talk about alternate side parking! Having a car in the city is like factoring another child into the family!

ashreinu, I hope you’re not serious the most i ever circled was 30 minutes and that was bad enough,in which borough do you circle 1 1/2 hours?

Sorry, I read a few posts. They were in their car at the time and they were quite obviously dark skinned. They got out of their car to check if we damaged the car. We had only tapped it. Why would anybody be hanging out in a mall parking lot anyway was beyond us, except to make trouble. You usually park and go shopping. Sorry if my story was not to clear.

Guess there’s always somebody in a worse situation than yourself all the more reason to be considerate. Recently as i was signaling that i wanted to park i looked in the rearview mirror to see if the driver behind me was stopping, and what i saw really inspired me ,the guy stopped ,took out his blackberry and made himself busy untill i finished my parking. No squeezing no honking just calmly waited. It inspired me to do the same to other drivers. It just shows we can make a difference.

Rabosei! move out to Monsey, Wesley Hills, Passaic etc. where parking is no issue. I once asked a person: Do you live in BORO PARK? he answered me: “I live in BORO NO PARKING…

    #633407

roshyeshiva, lucky you…most ppl here (in flatbush and boro park) don’t stop honking as the person in front of them tries to park…i think what most people need to remember is that honking wont really get you anywhere if the person intends to park, theyll just finish parking while you honk…rather than honking and gettin the person annoyed, we should all learn a lesson from the person who was behind you to just remain calm for the few seconds, maybe minutes that it takes for the person to park and then go on…why raise your blood pressure for nothing?

Keepinentertained,You are one hundred recent right i was lucky, but you see that if i was inspired to do the same so that means if somebody will try so park in front of me he’ll also be lucky and there goes a chain if we can only learn from each other. All the more reason to spread this and what a difference it could make!

    Squeak – You got it.

Parking has actually gotten a little better recently, though it still takes a relatively long time to park. It would be lovely to move out to the suburbs, though it’s not practical for some….maybe one day:)

I was pretty sure. But believe me, Co-op City is far worse. I remember not too long ago when someone was shot over a parking space. Meshuga! But I don’t know any frum people who live there so I assumed that you didn’t mean it.

    #633412

roshyeshiva, i think we should spread it…it would be quiet pleasant if people would curb their bad honking habits and just become more patient and tolerant of those who take a few seconds longer to park or maneuver their car…

on a side note, regarding honking, sometimes i’m amazed at what some people do. this morning when on my way to work as i turn off 53rd on to 15th i hear lots of loud honking…although it may not be getting the angry drivers anywhere they were all honkinh at some hot shot who thought he’d get himself a parking spot on the other side of the street so he went to make a U turn, in the snow, on the ice, in middle of 15th avenue during a very busy hour…serves him right that the spot he intended to take was a pump spot!! ha ha!! but ppl, use your seichel when driving … and again, dont honk unnecessary…the streets are noisy enough w/o the blasting horns!

Keepinentertained, you are so right and I really try not to honk, because it bothers me so much when other people honk so why should i?

when i first started driving, being that i lived i brooklyn so i am honked at all the time, it was so hard to drive because if i stopped for a second i would only get honked at and it would get me so scared.

also, i heard that driving has to do with your middos, so i assume that working on your driving is also working on your middos, i am not saying in how well you drive, but how you deal with other drivers.

Its just scary that yesterday I went out to do two things and it turns into over two hour affair, and when I was asked to pick up a simple bagel I said i cant because parking wont allow me to do it in less than a half hour.

    myshadow, kol hakavoid to you!

bored@work very good point about middos just want to ad on that… The ppl that honk when you stop for a second are the ppl that push or cut into the line at the grocery it’s just that from the car it’s harder to identify them but really they are the same mishcusim bemidos.

So here’s a pet peeve of mine – carpool, especially on a Sunday morning when I bedavka do NOT have to be up as early as usual. Why are people so incredibly thoughtless and honk repeatedly and loudly when they are picking up the children? I ALWAYS had my sons ready on time and waiting with the door open to go right out to the carpool. When it was my turn to drive, if a child was not ready and waiting, I sent my son to the door, so as not to disturb people who might be sleeping in or have sleeping babies, etc. What is so difficult about a) being ready and b) being considerate. One time, I called the house number of the child who was not yet out the door after a couple of minutes, and an irate mother had tainos to me for waking HER up!

    #633416

bored@work, i agree 100%..it def shows something about your middos. patience is a virtue that all have to acquire and it’s crucial for us all to train ourselves to have patience, and driving is a perfect training court. although some people may think they are expert drivers and would never hold up such traffic im sure at some point or another everyone has been the one holding up traffic for whatever reason and im sure then you wouldnt have liked bein honked at…so i think next time someone feels the urge to honk at someone else they should stop for a second and think what if…and then just keep yourself busy for the minute or two and give the other driver a chance to do what they have to…honking isnt gettin you anywhere!

myshadow, i think myself, adn everyone should follow your lead. shkoyach!

another thing…if you see someone about to pull into a spot, don’t steal it!! this happened to me today when i was in a major rush. to top it all off, the guy started laughing when he saw that i was annoyed. i think a good middos lesson would’ve served him well
