October 5, 2021 3:02 pm at 3:02 pm #2012529GadolhadorahParticipantHarav: A toevah firetruck wouldn’t get too far in certain neighborhoods so there would likely be a much greater loss of life and property

October 5, 2021 3:23 pm at 3:23 pm #2012545Reb EliezerParticipantRed sticks out and can be seen easily. There is a joke, why does a fireman wear red suspenders? So, that his pants should not fall down. In Sopron, Hungary where I was born, there is a tall tower dating back to the Romans which can be seen all over the town, called the fire tower. They would look out for a fire in the town.
October 5, 2021 3:23 pm at 3:23 pm #2012546Reb EliezerParticipantWhy don’t you ask, why is the sky blue? It is the most comfortable color for the eyes.
October 5, 2021 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm #2012564ysysParticipantIt is to show that the firemen are REDy to save lives
October 5, 2021 5:23 pm at 5:23 pm #2012569Ex-CTLawyerParticipantI was born and raised in New Haven, CT. The firetrucks were and are WHITE. We owned a business in Hamden, CT the trucks used to be a Yellowish Green Color. Now they are Red with white upper sections.
The town I live in now uses red trucks.
40 years ago I was in business in Danbury. Paid firefighter drove red trucks, the volunteer companies drove the color of their choice. It is up to the individual municipality to decide.

October 5, 2021 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm #2012601hujuParticipantRed is NOT the most highly visible color. This matter was studied years ago, by a respected group of experts (I regret I cannot remember the name of the experts or the study). The study concluded that the most visible color is a neon yellow with hints of green, a lot like the color of the Hatzolah ambulances. I think the fire trucks are still red because of a long tradition, and red is visible enough.
October 5, 2021 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm #2012632KuvultParticipantWhen I was a kid they were regular yellow. Now they’re red.
October 5, 2021 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm #2012657commonsaychelParticipant@AAQ, Monsey is served by 5 volunteer depts. Monsey has red, Spring Valley has blue and red, Tallman has red and white, Hillcrest has red and blue, Chestnut Ridge has Red, there are frum females [semi OTD] in Monsey FD and they have no issue with red
