May 1, 2009 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm #673830flatbush37Membergood idea. spread rumors with no support from anyone.
May 1, 2009 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #673831mroosinsehryMemberflatbush37: I support the fact that you were thrown off of here, you just create trouble here. Don’t tell the mods that you are the boss here you aren’t. THIS IS NOT A RUMOR. It can be true. Maybe you don’t live in the 20s so youre not scared. THIS IS SERIOUS!!!!
May 3, 2009 3:45 am at 3:45 am #673832just meParticipantI live in Flatbush but not in the 20s. I don’t know if this is true or not, but it’s a good idea to teach your children to be careful and to watch out for suspisous looking cars or vans. If your not sure why a stranger is hanging out on your block, call the cops or the shomrim.
We should all be careful in this crazy world.
May 3, 2009 4:29 am at 4:29 am #673833JaxMemberso did anything happen?
May 3, 2009 4:36 am at 4:36 am #673834mroosinsehryMemberi heard about this from other sources also so it seems there may be truth to it. i heard THAT SHOMRIM GOT 15 CALLS ABOUT IT. ANYWAYS, IT CAN’T HURT TO BE CAREFUL
May 3, 2009 5:39 am at 5:39 am #673835squeakParticipantA van that is stuck in the 20s shouldn’t be hard to find. Don’t most vans nowadays have the ability to move around?
May 3, 2009 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm #673836mroosinsehryMemberi know someone who’s sister’s friend was asked if she wanted candies to come into the van!!!!
May 4, 2009 1:25 am at 1:25 am #673838goody613Membermroosinsehry: really? do u know the details?
May 4, 2009 1:56 am at 1:56 am #673840aussieboyParticipantAnd if its not true and it is just a rumor? Its not like someone will get hurt. Better to be cautious because if it is true someone can get hurt
May 4, 2009 2:02 am at 2:02 am #673841aussieboyParticipantAll i can say is whoever is doing it isnt too bright. The typical situation is a stranger asking a young child if they want candy and that is what young children are told to stay away from.
May 4, 2009 2:05 am at 2:05 am #673842goody613Memberthe kids don’t always know that
May 4, 2009 2:06 am at 2:06 am #673843aussieboyParticipantgoody613: Thats true, but there are much smarter ways of doing it.
May 4, 2009 2:35 am at 2:35 am #673844JaxMemberames: here it is, Shomrim 718-871-6666-number takin from the homepage!
May 4, 2009 2:55 am at 2:55 am #673845mroosinsehryMembereveryone should teach their kids never to accept these candies
May 4, 2009 3:20 am at 3:20 am #673846JaxMembermroosinsehry: or to talk to strangers for that matter!
May 4, 2009 4:07 am at 4:07 am #673847mroosinsehryMemberjax, good point
May 4, 2009 4:46 am at 4:46 am #673848aussieboyParticipantIts really sad that if someone stops and asks for directions you need to be cautious. The world is really messed up.
May 4, 2009 4:47 am at 4:47 am #673849JaxMembermroosinsehry: you can always count on me to state the obvious! 😉
May 4, 2009 2:26 pm at 2:26 pm #673850noitallmrParticipantaussieboy- Yup but that’s the way it always was…
February 3, 2010 11:25 pm at 11:25 pm #673852d aMemberI was looking through the old topics on the CR and found this one. This is the problem with rumor/truth stories:
mroosinsehry said: “i know someone who’s sister’s friend…”
Lets look at this statement a little,
“i” = person 1
“know someone” = person 2
“who’s sister” = person 3
“‘s friend” = person 4
This type of “story” is common. This story was past from person to person. Now, I’m not saying whether mroosinsehry’s story is true or not, but did you ever hear of the game Telephone?
February 10, 2010 7:08 am at 7:08 am #673853HalelujahMember“i” = person 1
“know someone” = person 2
“who’s sister” = person 3
“‘s friend'” = person 4
TAKE IT A STEP FURTHER:
“dog’s”= character 5
“previous owner’s”= person 6
“friend”= person7
“heard from a meteorologist” person 7
ENTER A WEATHER REPORTER AND THE STORY IS AUTOMATICALLY NOT TRUE AS THEY GET PAID TO MAKE UP STORIES.
