In Siman 81 the Mechaber says ??? ????? ???? ???? ????? ?? ???? ????? ???? ??? ???? ????? ???? ????? ????? ??? ??????? ?????? ?? ????? ?????: which basically means the tzoah of a katan is only considered tzoah if he can eat a kezayis kdei achilas pras (3 or 4 beitzim).
The Mishna Berura writes in Sif katan 3, we estimate this time according to the food that the katan is eating ( ??”? ????”?) According to this it will come out that the shiur kdei achilas pras is based on how long it takes to eat 6 or 8 kzeisim of what you are eating. So lchoira how can you ever say a time how long a kdei achilas pras is? It should simply be based on what you are eating and ldugma the shiur for matza will be a much longer zman?
However, the Mishna berura by hilchos matza warns us to be careful to eat two kzeisim in one shot. Lfi what he says in siman 81 we do not need these warnings?
March 31, 2013 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm #941909WiseyParticipantIt seems to me that the mishnah berurah in ?? is saying that if the child can eat 1/8 the speed of an adult the dinn aplies. Therefore if an adult takes y amount of time to eat x amount of this food then the tinok must be able to eat x/8 of this food within that time. If the tinok eats matzah and it takes 40 minutes for an adult to eat a “pras” of matzah then the tinok must be able to eat a kizayis within 40 minutes. This is not saying that on pesach if you eat a kizayis within 40 minutes that you have done a halachik “achilah”, since an achilah has to be eaten within a “kidey achilas pras” which is the time to eat half a loaf of bread.

But the pri megadim when explaining the magen avraham there brings down a mishna lamelech brachos 3,12 that the same shayala of making a bracha achrona on coffee. do we dan the maachel or their is a set amount of time. kyadua the mb 206 paskens not to make a bracha achrona on coffee.
Really the Gemara in Eiruvin 4a seems to be clear that it is a set amount of time. The gemara says, ??? ????? ??? ??? ?????? ???’ ???? ?? ??? ?? ????? ??? ???????? ???? ??? ?????? ????? ???? ?????? ????? ?? ?????? ???’ ??? ?????? ?? ????? ???? ????? ??? ?? ????? ??? ?? ??????
It would seem from that gemara that Kdei achilas Pras is a set time not a shiur in the food unlike the Mishna berura in 82.

This is the text of the mishna lamelech
