My Bubbie A’H had the letter ‘shin’ on her forehead formed by her veins. We were able to see it due to her thinning skin and were always so amazed. I just thought to ask if anyone else has ever heard of this or seen this? Do we all have it but cannot see it through the skin? or is it rare or nothing at all?

This sounds too much like the Christians who see images of their “saviour” in grilled cheese sandwiches.

Thanks for that disgusting remark. Like I said there maybe nothing to it, but then again there may be. We always thought it was interesting and kind of inspiring(like a closeness to Hashem). I also dont like the fact that you compared my Bubbie A’H to a grilled cheese.

    #730551

Sender Av-thats very interesting! After havdalah most ppl in my community have the custom of dipping our finger into the wine that put out the candle and then writing a shin with it on our foreheads

Sender Av: I was not comparing your Bubby and a grilled cheese sandwich (which I love), I was comparing (a) your view of your Bubby with (b) certain Christians’ views of grilled cheese sandwiches.

I fail to see what is disgusting about my prior remark. If your Bubby is to Bubbys as a grilled cheese sandwich is to all other food, your Bubby must be a superlative person.

LOL Yit. That was my first thought too.

passion, do you know where that minhag stems from?

what a charming and extraordinary coincidence of veins that is! Nothing more, makes an excellent story, I love grilled cheese, too, but not even a tiny fraction as much as you love your Bubbie.

I was sure this thread was about “Ten Lost”, the prequel of “Aleph Shin” – 2 awesome novels – if you didn’t read them, you should….even though they are fiction and are written as potential nonfiction, he addresses Jews’ & amalek’s “vein structure”….you would have to ask Sender Zeev (the author) if he has mekoros for it tho 🙂

nfgo, I apologize If I used harsh tones. I just do not like that comparison. This was real, not some made up story for someone to get 15 minutes of fame. I also never saw a potato chip that looked like mother you know who or Ronald Reagan.

Passion, are you Lubavitch? or some type of Chassidic? I am not, but my sister married one. After havdalah he takes the wine and puts it behind his ears.(Thank G-D after it has been consumed already) I am not sure why , but maybe its the same as why you do the shin??

I have a small scar on my forehead that looks like a script yud (it’s a small line). Yud is also the first letter in a name of Hashem – maybe it’s a sign!

I have a scar on my right shoulder that looks like a patach. Does that mean that every time I open my mouth I am “??? ??????”

    #730578

Sender Av- no not chassidish. Not close to it.

Jack Daniels- yeah we do shin on our forehead, daled on the back of our neck, and yud on our pockets

Sender Av: No apology necessary. I stand by my first comment. And why do you doubt the sincerity of a Christian who sees holy images in a grilled cheese sandwich? We must show chesed to goyim.

To SJS’C and yit’t: I googled “Finn Hudson.” It would appear that I am older than I realize. And why are there so many TV viewers on this frum web site?

Feif Un; that small scar on your forehead that looks like a script Yud, may be a sign (Omen), or it might be that your Plastic surgeon didn’t do such a good job.

    Sender Av:

Are you sure he is putting it behind his ears and not behind his head? I remember seeing in the sefer Minhag Yisroel Torah that there is such a minhag to put it where the kesher of the shel rosh is.

    #730583

When I saw the title of this thread, I read the word “shin” as part of the leg and wondered how anyone could put their shin on their forehead.

Derech, pretty sure it is behind his ears. He does the same thing( I’m pretty sure) with the water from Mayim Achronim on Shabbos after he washes his fingertips.

I have a personal Minhag (Not a Chumro) (That I have not seen in any sefer or heard from my Rebbi.) To also touch my lips with the wine from Havdala. Originally. The reason we are following this Minhag is ????? ?????. Showing love and respect for the Mitzvah. But where we go wrong, sometimes, is when one wants to force their personal views or chumros on everyone else. Anything beyond Halachic requirements should not be forced on the public.
