Now that Purim Torah is so yesterday(unless you’re in Yerushalayim or similar city), I thought I would start a Sheva Brachos Torah thread, which can be similar to Purim Torah. Repost from the Purim Torah thread:
It says in Pirkei Avos, ???? ???? ???? ?????. So this means ????? ???? ????? ?????. so how is one allowed to get married? It says ????? ?? ????! So I believe the teretz is,one ????? a person can handle…
March 12, 2009 8:32 pm at 8:32 pm #641767JotharMemberHashem took a little rib from Adam and turned it into an an entire woman. Today women like to reciprocate by taking every little thing their husband does and blowing it way out of proportion.

Jothar: The only proper response to that is that Hashem made Adam and said, ” I KNOW I can do way better than that!” So he made Eve. 😉
March 12, 2009 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #641770moish01Memberyeah plush they owe us a rib. that’s why guys are thrilled with ribs for dinner – PAYBACK TIME!
March 12, 2009 8:58 pm at 8:58 pm #641771areivimzehlazehParticipantha! very good moish!
March 12, 2009 8:59 pm at 8:59 pm #641772areivimzehlazehParticipantoh, is that why we poke someone in the rib…. 😉
March 12, 2009 9:21 pm at 9:21 pm #641773squeakParticipantnope, moish, there was actually a newspaper article I remember where the headline screamed Women have the same # of ribs as men. Someone researched it. Google it (I never have, but I remember reading it).
March 12, 2009 9:21 pm at 9:21 pm #641774JotharMemberSome of these depend on the crowd. I frankly never found the right crowd for the mechasheifah joke, but could be there isn’t. Now that I’m married I can only say some of my jokes when the mrs. isn’t around…
Actyually oomis, you are correct. The Ohr Hatzafun says that women, by dint of being “formed” instead of “created”, are supposed to be better and more refined than men.
Now for chosson jokes.
This week is parshas Metzorah, and that reminds us of the chosson… (you then go on to explain how the metzorah gets transformed, and the chosson undergoes a positive transformation by becoming an adam shaleim)
The chovos halevavos says the moshol of the Rebbe and the talmid walking along and they see a rotting carcass. The talmid says “How smelly is the carcass”, and the Rebbe says “But how white are its teeth”. Even though the stench is overpowering, the Rebbe knows that one has to have an ayin tova and see the good in everyone. In this case, despite the obvious stench, he found the one positive thing jhe could say- the carcass has white teeth. This, my friends, is an ayin tova.
And that reminds us of our chosson. He has white teeth…
March 12, 2009 10:17 pm at 10:17 pm #641775anon for thisParticipantJothar, I think the story of the rotting carcass (a mule perhaps?) is an anecdote from the gemara. Do you remember the names of the rebbe/ student?
March 12, 2009 10:20 pm at 10:20 pm #641776JotharMemberanon for this, I tried hunting down a source for it, but the only place I found so far was the chovos halevavos, and he just says it as a moshol.
March 12, 2009 10:25 pm at 10:25 pm #641777anon for thisParticipantJothar, I think it is an actual incident, because I think I remember reading a name associated with the incident, but can’t remember who it was. I have no clue how to look it up though. Does anyone else know what I’m talking about?
March 12, 2009 10:30 pm at 10:30 pm #641778moish01Memberyeah, anon it is an actual story. i remember it. it’s killing me that i can’t remember who it was though. it’ll come eventually…
ames, it wasn’t eliyahu
March 12, 2009 10:50 pm at 10:50 pm #641780moish01Memberthanks, ames
March 13, 2009 1:04 am at 1:04 am #641781anon for thisParticipantames, thanks for finding that.
March 13, 2009 7:40 am at 7:40 am #641782kapustaParticipantjothar good thing for you, you said why can one get marries, not specifically men or women 🙂
a really old joke,
When g-d firat created Adam, he complained and asked for companionship.
G-d “ok, but it’ll cost you”
Adam “how much?”
G-d “an arm and a leg”
Adam “too much, what can I get for a rib?
🙂
March 15, 2009 3:11 am at 3:11 am #641783JotharMember“This week is parshas Terumah, we we learn about the bayis we made for Hashem. Since a marriage is also bayis, it pays to study the bais hashem to see what we can learn. and we see the 3 most important things for building a bayis (dramatic pause)…namely zahav, kessef, and nechoshes…
May your house be like the mikdash..everything donated.”
March 17, 2009 3:27 am at 3:27 am #641784JotharMember“Our chosson is such a kadosh, he never thinks about Torah in the bathroom…”
March 17, 2009 3:50 am at 3:50 am #641785JotharMemberIt says, ??? ??? ??? ???. so what is the good that we’re talking about? In Eicha, it says ??? ???? ?? ??? ??? ???????, “It’s good for a man to wear a yoke in his youth”. Chazal tell us (Midrash Rabbah Eicha 3:9)that this refers to the yoke of Torah, the yoke of parnassah, and the yoke of marriage. So this is the “Tov” that the passuk is referring to. Even though it will sometimes seem like a yoke and a burden, this is the ultimate good for a person. (So far this is true. )
So if this passuk is talking about marriage, it makes sense that the neighboring pesukim are also about marriage, and are offering advice for marriage. Let’s see what they say…
??? ??? ?????.. let him sit by himself and be quiet…
??? ???? ????…let him put his mouth in the dirt…
??? ????? ???…let him give his cheek to the one hitting him…
The aufruf is to get the chosson used to things being thrown at him…
In order to make sure I was properly mekayem the mitzvah of sheva brachos, I’d like to just say that ?? ??? ??? ??? ??? ????? ????? ??…
March 17, 2009 4:25 am at 4:25 am #641786kiruvwifeMemberhmmm, any serious ones that can just plug in chosson and kallah?
March 17, 2009 2:07 pm at 2:07 pm #641787JotharMemberthe last one of my last post, lo kachal velo sarak, is what the gemara in Kesubos says to say about a kallah. How much more serious can you get?
March 17, 2009 2:09 pm at 2:09 pm #641788JotharMemberAlmost all of the ones I posted can then be used seriously. EG, the chessed of rivkah, the ayin tova of the chosson who has clean teeth but also looks for the good, etc.
March 17, 2009 2:33 pm at 2:33 pm #641789mepalMemberMay your house be like the mikdash..everything donated.”
Jothar! lol about getting everything donated… Very cute.
March 17, 2009 3:36 pm at 3:36 pm #641790kiruvwifeMembersorry jothar, I posted my post before I saw your serious one….I guess they can be adjusted as needed.
March 18, 2009 2:48 pm at 2:48 pm #641791JotharMemberIt says ??? ?????? ?? ??? ?????? ?? ???. We see from here how difficult krias Yam Suf was…
It also says ??? ?????? ?? ??? ?????? ?? ???. How can 2 totaly different things have the same level of difficulty? It must be a proof to the kollel system- Zivug and parnassah are the same thing!
March 22, 2009 2:25 am at 2:25 am #641792JotharMemberI actually had a pretty good regular (aka non-funny although you can embellish it to be funny)dvar Torah on vayakhel Pekudei. Why have such long parshiyos? ust say “The Jews did whatever they were commanded to in Terumah-Tetzaveh”? The parsha would be much shorter. What’s with all the redundancy and extra pesukim? The answer is that there’s no such thing as “they lived happily ever after” without any details. Life is in the details. It’s the little everyday details that make a marriage successful. Doing something nice for the anniversary or birthday but ignoring the other details complimenting, being nice, etc) will not be successful. even when it seems repetitive and redundant, it’s the details that make a marriage a success.
March 24, 2009 3:58 am at 3:58 am #641793JaxMemberJothar: these are so great, thanx so much!! maybe some day i’ll use them!!!
March 24, 2009 7:31 pm at 7:31 pm #641794JotharMemberSure thing Jax.
Rashi (Vayikra 4:13) says, “Fortunate is the generation whose leader admits his faults”. Many men often feel that since they are in charge, they don’t need to apologize. We see from the Torah that it’s not true. Everyone must admit when they are wrong. And remember- as the hdband, you’re always wrong!
March 25, 2009 2:06 am at 2:06 am #641795goody613Memberbrought down in the avudraham When they said MAROR ZU they would point at the wife!!!! :o)
March 25, 2009 2:14 am at 2:14 am #641796YW Moderator-72Participantgoody613 – R’ M.M.Weiss mentioned this on one of his tapes. he provides an explanation as follows:
the work was distributed out in such a way that the women were given work more suitable for men and vice versa. So when we point to our wife it is because we are showing that they had the bitterness to a harsher degree and suffered these hardships and when we say maror zu, we remember this and point to the wife to show appreciation for all that she did and does for us.
March 31, 2009 3:35 am at 3:35 am #641797JotharMemberI was once speaking at the sheva brachos of a friend of mine from Brooklyn. As a Brooklyite, he was much more familiar with Yiddish than I was. The week was parshas tzav. I said, “Before I met Simcha I used to think this was Parshas Tzav. Now I think it’s Parshas Tzu.”
