I’m sure those in the know have heard the terrible news…Shang Chai has closed its doors.

There goes the Thursday night gorge-fest. No longer will we hear the Chinese waiters singing Happi Behrdai in their off-tune intonations… (made you want to break out crying)

No longer will we enjoy the unsurpassed gastronomic experience of gorging on skewers and stuffing ourselves to the hilt with spare ribs. No longer will we have Thursday night dates with our friends and acquaintances.

It’s a sad situation, my friends. An irreplaceable loss. Feel my pain.

There’s a previous thread from last week discussing their closure.

No great loss. Home made and eaten food is the best.

I loved their buffet and the ribs were heavenly.

What a shame. We need another good Cantonese-style kosher restaurant with good ribs, wonton soup, etc.

You’ve managed without Schmulke Bernstein and Moshe Peking for all this time, and they had better food. I predict NY will survive this as well.

Never understood the appeal of Shulma Bernstein, the food was awful.

I wasnt a fan of it, But Ratners was a NY institution

I didn’t like Shmulks, but West Hempstead has Wing Wan, which is quite good, and the Five Towns has Cho-Sen Island, which has outstanding service, as well as good food.

Shang chai had the best chinese food in the world. Chosen island doesn’t come close.

Shmulka’s appeal derived from the fact that for years they were the only kosher Chinese place in NYC and you could go at midnight motzei shabbos
