This question is for those of you who have a TV and let their kids watch selected shows…I just saw that Shalom Sesame has some new videos out, has anyone watched them. Would they recommend it for their children?

    ??? ????? ??, ??? ????? ??? ????? ??

    😉

Depends on how permissive you are.

Personally, I would have no problem with it, but I would understand if others would.

Israeli style Ultra Orthodox (for lack of a better term) would not allow it.

I feel the need to add I have not seen the new episodes, and can not vouch for them.

I just watched a clip online, seems pretty harmless to me. However, I would understand if many would not feel comfortable with it.

    gavra-at-work…

Not making a judgement one way or the other, as I have not seen these videos either, but I wouldn’t make a decision based on what “Israeli style Ultra Orthodox” (aka Chareidi) would do.

For everyone’s information even the most frum New York yeshivish types are NOT like Israeli chareidi. Israeli chareidi kids can’t even play ball, much less watch ANY video.

Until recently (and somewhat even now) this was/is a big problem for frum Brooklyn types making aliyah – especially in terms of finding a school for their kids. Israeli chareidi is WAY more machmir than in the U.S., and Mizrachi-type was way too maykil.

–B”H now there is a category called “Chardal” (rashai taivos for CHAReidi DAti Le’umi) that is perfect for MOST frum New Yorkers making aliya.

“Chardal” is much to far to the left for the vast majority of frum New Yorkers.

    “so right”…

    I have to disagree.

Don’t forget, I said “perfect for MOST frum New Yorkers MAKING ALIYA.”

So, I am NOT talking about the crowd who have only bad things to say about the “terrible Zionists” and consequently are very content to live out their lives in Brooklyn or Monsey or Monroe.

I AM talking about people who ARE making aliya, i.e. people of a very different mind-set.

MOST (not ALL, but most) of those would fit very confortably in the Charda”l category.

I’m in between Charaidi and Chardal, and i wouldn’t let my kids watch it. (based on old episodes i watched as a kid, starring sara jessica parker et al.)
