Daas Yochid: you are confusing me….I looked back on the thread and I did not see anything that smacks of apikorsus- are you seriously saying that when one maintains that one should work for a living and does not suscribe tot the kollel mentality of today ,one is an apikores??
rob: He said that someone who spends all his time learning does not qualify as being a productive member of society. DY called that Apikorsus. I don’t quite think it’s Apikorsis, but it is extreme arrogance and stupidity.
DY: I don’t know if denying the concept that each additional word of Torah brings more good into the world classifies as Mai Ahanu Lan Rabannan. That’s the only reason it might not be Apikorsus.
DY: Fair point, though context could say he’s only referring to someone who refuses to ever work and will learn his whole life whether he can afford to or not, which also may not qualify (though it probably does as well).
At this point, I’m not even discussing who should and shouldn’t be working or learning full time. I made a simple observation that calling a learner unproductive is precisely what the gemara called apikorsus.
Daas yochid and sam2,I reviewed the thread again and I cannot see where anyone, not rebdoniel nor 613 said anything about learners not being productive,so I am still baffled where there may be any apikorsus
I’m gonna take a guess that 613 isn’t an apikorus.
As for rd, I don’t like to refer to a person as an apikorus, but the viewpoint he espoused, which is apikorsus, was said by implication, not explicitly.
