HEY PEOPLE!I need help choosing which seminary to go!I am interested in Me’or, and some people listed machon raya, nachalas and BYA….can you please describe each of these to me plus all the other seminaries and what they are like please?
September 28, 2014 2:45 am at 2:45 am #1054225September 28, 2014 2:49 am at 2:49 am #1054226Letakein GirlParticipantIs it that time of year already?
(Sigh.)
Try searching the cr for info on those sems. Most seminaries have already been dissected by the cr’s esteemed members.
September 28, 2014 1:59 pm at 1:59 pm #1054227smile101MemberThank you ‘DaasYochid’ for the link and Letakein Girl for the advice. But instead of searching through, does anyone have fresh and new info about these seminaries PLEASE? its getting really stressful!
September 28, 2014 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm #1054228jackintheboxMember@smile101-” its getting really stressful! “
so don’t go.
September 28, 2014 4:58 pm at 4:58 pm #1054229Letakein GirlParticipantIsn’t it a bit early to be thinking about sems? Wait a bit and then you’ll have other girls making threads just like this one.
If you’re lucky, a loyal alumna of one of the sems you mentioned above will chance upon this thread in a few hours and you’ll have a long post detailing every minute detail of their “AWESOME SEM!!!!!” 🙂
But most likely, you’ll just have some other twelfth graders asking about other sems.
September 28, 2014 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #1054230healthcrazyMemberhey. im also looking into sems, and I really can use some help!does anyone know anything about seminar, ateres, tiferes, or me’or? are any of them really academic? any info would be of great assistance, thank you.
September 28, 2014 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #1054231Letakein GirlParticipantLol, it’s just like I siad. Now I feel like an old timer. 🙂
September 28, 2014 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #1054232wereistheplaceMemberHey! Im also really interested in Meor but dont know much about what it is like currently. Another one of my choices is Kesser Chaya does anyone know what type of girls go there?
September 29, 2014 12:16 am at 12:16 am #1054233healthcrazyMembercan someone please explain how Shabbos and yom tov works in ateres and seminar? how many shabbosim are “in shabbosim”( if any)?will either help you if you cant find a place to go?
alos is it hard to get accepted to either seminary?
September 29, 2014 5:26 am at 5:26 am #1054234cozimjewishMemberAm I the only girl besides WITP who wants to go to keser chaya?
September 29, 2014 8:10 am at 8:10 am #1054236writersoulParticipantsmile: those and ALL the other sems? Tall order… 🙂
Judging by the ones you mentioned, I don’t think that describing my seminary would help you very much, so sorry. But I’ve been talking to (and visited) my friends in Seminar and Machon Raaya and they seem to love it there, if that helps at all.
Having been in this parsha last year I’m sure it doesn’t, so all I can really say is good luck and chill! You’re really early, and everything will work out in the end whether you get loads of answers on these threads or not.
In the meantime, if it’s absolutely essential to your peace of mind, go ahead and search the site for the sem names and see what people have written in the past. If you want really current info, remember that all of us here this year are still getting used to it- I honestly wouldn’t feel comfortable yet giving advice or details about my sem. After all, I’ve only been here three weeks.
September 30, 2014 12:51 pm at 12:51 pm #1054237cozimjewishMemberwritersoul – they let you on ywn in your seminary??
September 30, 2014 6:09 pm at 6:09 pm #1054238Patur Aval AssurParticipant“writersoul – they let you on ywn in your seminary??”
Well Popa Bar Abba is the headmaster, after all.
October 1, 2014 3:25 am at 3:25 am #1054239cozimjewishMemberlol of course 🙂 but seriously, I thought most sems don’t let the girls go on the internet (except maybe emails)
October 1, 2014 7:20 am at 7:20 am #1054240writersoulParticipantWell, I don’t go over to the computer guy and ask, hey, can I go on YWN? Cuz that would be a bit embarrassing.
I have filtered internet at my seminary. Edited
October 1, 2014 11:24 am at 11:24 am #1054242cozimjewishMembermods i said she didnt have to answer! why was my post deleted??

So which threads has it filtered out?
October 2, 2014 1:48 am at 1:48 am #1054245smile101MemberI have a very strong/intense work ethic. But, I”m not sure if i’m interested in going to a sem that is known to be academic! Some people recommended Machon Raya … However, I was also told to look into BYA & Nachalas. Can someone please describe these four seminaries to me?
Machon Raya, Nachalas, BYA and Meor?

October 2, 2014 6:27 am at 6:27 am #1054246cozimjewishMembersmile101 – yes I’m also interested in those places. Good luck finding someone nice enough to actually help out on the CR though 🙂 I doubt anyone who actually knows will answer. Also, keep in mind that CR is mostly people’s (often mistaken) opinions, so it’s also good to ask someone you know who went to the sems you mentioned. If you find out anything, lmk!!! 🙂 I’m also looking for info….Hatzlacha!
October 2, 2014 2:09 pm at 2:09 pm #1054247cinderellaParticipantI went to Machon Raaya a few years ago. I think I once posted a long post about it if you want to try to find that. But if you have any specific questions I’d be happy to answer.
October 2, 2014 7:03 pm at 7:03 pm #1054248writersoulParticipantMy friends are in Machon Raaya and seem to be really happy. I actually visited the building and it was so nice and way better located than where I am (which per the mods’ admonitions I will not tell you- they actually edited a statement about it out of my previous post. That said I’d really rather not put it on the thread). Being right in the middle of Geula is amazing.
There is a lot of work from what I’ve been told- while my school’s been starting us off slowly, they seem to be working hard from the get-go. But everything I’ve heard has been that the classes and the learning are very, very good and the girls seem really sweet. (Especially my friends.)
I have friends at Nachlas and Meor but I haven’t talked to them recently so I can’t really say anything about them.
Good luck and chill out!
October 2, 2014 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #1054249writersoulParticipantPAA: I wish I knew- I obviously don’t by definition. Have I been missing some really juicy stuff? Has PBA become a maharat? Have girls been getting shidduchitis vaccines substituted for their HPV vaccines? (Wow, many many moons have passed…)
October 3, 2014 12:56 am at 12:56 am #1054250Patur Aval AssurParticipant“PAA: I wish I knew- I obviously don’t by definition.”
Touche.
I guess the times that I responded to you and you didn’t respond back means that my responses were filtered out. Not muchrach though, because there are people who don’t respond to me simply because they have nothing to say. Or it could be that the coffee room is so popular that in between times that you stop in, my responses have fallen too far down the list.
“Have I been missing some really juicy stuff?”
Yes.
“Has PBA become a maharat?”
More like the Maharat became PBA.
“Have girls been getting shidduchitis vaccines substituted for their HPV vaccines?”
They don’t do vaccines anymore.
October 6, 2014 11:43 pm at 11:43 pm #1054251smile101Memberdoes anyone know any information about Nachlas? what types of girls go? is it academic? is the work hard? What is there hashkafa like?

October 7, 2014 1:27 am at 1:27 am #1054266cozimjewishMemberUmmm….if I asked why smile101 just sent that many blank posts, would I be feeding the trolls?
October 20, 2014 1:12 am at 1:12 am #1054267smile101Memberit was an accident. sorry for causing misconfusion. my computer was having issues…..
so….which seminary is similar to mehor?
which seminary is in between mehor and nachlas?
October 20, 2014 3:24 am at 3:24 am #1054268hodulashemParticipantseminaries are constantly changing… the sem i went was mentioned in an above post, but I know for a fact that it has gone through many changes since i was there, and what I know would no longer be helpful! I think that the best way to get information is to speak to someone who was in the sem in the last year or two.
good luck!!
October 20, 2014 6:14 am at 6:14 am #1054269cozimjewishMemberI think Machon Raaya gets a similar crowd to meohr, however MR is more academic. Also Darchei Bina is similar.
“Which seminary is in between meohr and nachlas?”
In terms of what? Academics? Types of girls? (Nachlas attracts a more yeshivish crowd than meohr)
October 20, 2014 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #1054270smile101Memberacademic wise, mehor and nachlas is about the same….hashkafically, which seminary is in between mehor and nachlas.
what other seminaries are like mehor? aside from seminar and ateres?
October 21, 2014 1:14 am at 1:14 am #1054271cozimjewishMember“academic wise, mehor and nachlas is about the same”
Interesting, I have never heard that! Meor is supposed to have a lighter work load, as far as I know. Between Meor and Nachlas hashkafically is Keser Chaya, more right-wing. Levavi is also between meor and nachlas, but that is supposed to be on the modern side.
October 21, 2014 7:07 am at 7:07 am #1054272cozimjewishMemberAlso, there is Sharfman’s and Tomer Devora, but I honestly know nothing about either since they aren’t really for me. I believe they are similar to meor with regards to the “type” of girls who go there (to use a cliche) but I could be totally off 🙂 Are you looking for a sem more like meor or more like nachlas (i.e. more left- or more right-wing)?
November 23, 2014 7:42 am at 7:42 am #1054273cisMemberSeminar is academic!!
November 23, 2014 5:20 pm at 5:20 pm #1054275mitzvahgirl613ParticipantWhoa my thought on a lot of these sems have currently been changed! Cozimjewish I wanna go to KC really badly!! And levavi is more modern?? Wat do u mean?? And ateres is like mehor? In wat way?
November 23, 2014 8:53 pm at 8:53 pm #1054276lookingforsemMembermitzvah girl 613 – what type of sem r u looking for? y not bjj or bnos sarah or bnos chava? do u kw at about those sems?
