I was actually about to start a topic just like this. I applied to Seminar and I would really like to know what the interview will be like!

ATT. SEMINAR GIRLS: What type of questions are asked? Do they make you read? If so, what? Like just Chumash text or Rashi, Ramban… And the interviewer is male or female? Intimidating? Do they mostly want to ask lots of questions or get into a conversation with you and let you do all the talking?

loveparty, did you apply to Seminar too?

Hi, I went to seminar a few years ago, and I loved it! I was interviewed by Mrs. Flam, but it depends where you live (the west is usually interviewed by Rabbi Meisels, and sometimes Mrs. Jaeger or Mrs. Goldstein will interview). I loved my interview with Mrs. Flam-it was my favorite of all of my interviews. We talked for a bit and then I read a miforash (it was a ramban or ohr hachaim, I don’t remember which); don’t worry, she helps you if your stuck. Then we discussed the miforash and talked some more. Mrs. Flam made me feel so comfortable!

Well what if you can’t read properly under pressure? Do they understand? And is it a big issue if you can’t translate something?

Do you know who does interviews for NY? Thanks so much!

loveparty: you have to translate but she helps if your stuck

nanny: usually Mrs. Flam does the NY interviews, sometimes with another previous seminar faculty member

Don’t worry so much about the reading. The main thing is to show who you really are. And don’t worry about not getting in because you messed up the meforash; there were girls my year who were accepted and can barely read, but the school gives them extra tutoring at night if they need it. They base it on who you are, not on how great a translator you are. Good luck!

Hi! I just discovered that I’m going to have my interview for Seminar with Mrs. Flam pretty soon.

Does anyone remember what types of questions are asked? I hear there are some sems that ask VERY wierd questions… and I would need to prepare for them.

If you remember any specific questions that would be VERY helpful. (Weird or not.)

And is there any specific traits Seminar is looking for?
