What, exactly, am I selling? The keilim? Only the chometz in the keilim? Am I selling the food I own that is inherently non-chometz, but is not certified as Kosher L’Pesach?
Is it obligatory to cordon off into closed areas all the items sold or can they be lying around? All the Rov needed from me was my name and address.
April 3, 2012 2:27 pm at 2:27 pm #866064NaysbergMemberAnd why the need to cleanup so hard and carefully? Anything you don’t find will either be batul or sold to the goy anyways. (Even if you find chometz in your house on Pesach, it isn’t yours.)
April 3, 2012 2:35 pm at 2:35 pm #866065cherrybimParticipantOnly your actual chometz. The chometz that may be stuck to your keilim are made batul.

April 3, 2012 4:16 pm at 4:16 pm #8660672qwertyParticipantAnd be careful because if you sell your keilim i think you may need to toivel them again after pesach.
April 3, 2012 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #866068MDGParticipantYou are selling the chametz that may be in you keilim.
If you sold the keilim, you would have to tovel all your (metal and glass) dishes once you get them back.

Rav Moshe disagrees. In response to this question, he said, “what else do you sell, if not the chometz”.
April 3, 2012 8:35 pm at 8:35 pm #866070popa_bar_abbaParticipantMy zeidy says that in the old days they used to sell the chometz to the goyim, but today we sell it to the rabbi.

April 4, 2012 5:24 pm at 5:24 pm #866072shmoelMemberWhat about the guy who absent-mindedly sold his chometz twice, through two different rov’s?
April 4, 2012 6:40 pm at 6:40 pm #866073shmoelMemberMistama the second sale wasn’t chal. But the shaila is whether its the second time the guy went to the rov, or the second rov to sell it to a goy.
April 5, 2012 7:41 am at 7:41 am #866074Ken ZaynMembershmoel wrong, its the first sale that is no longer chal. The new one is mevatel any previous ones. Some people have shaychus to several rabbonim and feel bad not to use each one as the shaliach to sell their chometz. So make sure the Rav that you really want is the one you go to last..
popa/itche really lol
April 5, 2012 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm #866075ItcheSrulikMemberKen Zayn: If you’re just talking about the shlichus, then mistama ken zayn ;-). If the first rav already sold it, then what exactly are you empowering the second rav to sell?
April 5, 2012 2:17 pm at 2:17 pm #866076shmoelMemberKZ: How could it be the second that is chal? The first goy already own the chometz, so the second goy’s sale can’t be chal.
And what if Reuven sold his chometz via Rav Shimon first and Rav Levi second. But Rav Levi completed his sale to a goy before Rav Shimon did.
And I never heard anyone davka selling chometz through two or three different rav’s.
