How much is the curve? I started with an 83-degree curve and three different doctors told me I *must* get surgery or basically the world would end… I went (am still going!) to a chiropractor who has B”H reduced the curve around 20 degrees so far.

    You may not need surgery.

I know three people who got it. They all said the recovery period was over a year, when the doctors had said it would be around 3-6 months. Two of them still cannot carry anything heavy and have severe back pain. If there’s a way to contact you outside of here, I can give you their numbers.

To ilavhashem: What kind of back surgery are you having? I have a very bad case of scoliosis. Was actually born with it. I’ve had 3 surgeries for it, and had to wear a back brace for about 10 yrs. The 3rd and last surgery was almost 16yrs ago, when I was 11. It was a 10hr surgery where they put harrington rods into my back. Baruch Hashem I healed pretty quickly. Though I do still have some numbness in my back, I have no back pain.

Also, I’m currently married with a child, and another due any day. The only pregnancy complication from the last surgery is that some doctors might not feel comfortable giving you an epidural or spinal block if needed, and the epidural might not work so well.

Hatzlacha, and I hope the surgery and recovery goes smoothly for you.

My son fortunately was able to stave off surgery by wearing a back brace for several years, albeit it was very hot to wear in the summer.

He carried a Dr’s note on him, to be absolved from metal detectors etc.
