Anyone know the basis of and beliefs of Scientology? Wikipedia definition wasn’t very clear on what the belief system and practice of it is. I’m not interested in joining, just curious what it is.
January 12, 2014 3:31 am at 3:31 am #998012Sam2ParticipantIt’s a joke. It was founded on a bet.
January 12, 2014 3:36 am at 3:36 am #998013TheGoqParticipantYou don’t need to know, just forget it.
January 12, 2014 4:15 am at 4:15 am #998014It’s a joke. It was founded on a bet.
So was Judaism.
??? ??? ???? ??
January 12, 2014 4:34 am at 4:34 am #998015Torah613TorahParticipantDoped: That’s hardly a bet.
More like the maaser one.
January 12, 2014 4:49 am at 4:49 am #998016squeakParticipantIt’s a Ponzi scheme.
January 12, 2014 5:33 am at 5:33 am #998017fkellyMemberOk I get that no one believes in it! I just want to know what it is. And why intelligent people would be part of it.
January 12, 2014 5:51 am at 5:51 am #998018👑RebYidd23ParticipantBecause it’s easy and affordable if you already have two mansions in every state in the US.
January 12, 2014 5:51 am at 5:51 am #998019Sam2ParticipantPeople believe in it. It’s not a revelation-based system. It’s a belief-logic based system. So there’s nothing obviously false to stop people from believing in it. Aside from the fact, you know, that it was invented by a science fiction writer on a bet.
January 12, 2014 6:01 am at 6:01 am #998020heretohelpMemberWhat makes you think that there are any intelligent people who are part of it?
January 12, 2014 6:25 am at 6:25 am #998021WIYMemberFkelly
Its a cult. There are many intelligent people who get sucked in to cults. Read up on how cults such people in you’ll understand. One large part of their success is that they work on your emotions and there are certain ways to get smart people to do dumb things and that is to hijack them via their emotions. You have to understand the frame of mind and life situation of people that get drawn to cults. By and large happy and healthy people do not get pulled in. Its people who have serious issues in their private lives that fall for these things. They are trying to fill a need.
January 12, 2014 6:35 am at 6:35 am #998022👑RebYidd23ParticipantIt was in style at one point.
January 12, 2014 6:51 am at 6:51 am #998023fkellyMemberSam2- do you know what the principles of it are?
January 12, 2014 7:12 am at 7:12 am #998024Sam2Participantfkelly: Something about souls being eternal and us not being able to realize it and enlightenment being the path towards realizing it or something like that. I’m sure the Wikipedia page explains it fairly well.
January 12, 2014 9:37 am at 9:37 am #998025HaKatanParticipant“Doped up”:
Huh?
You posted that Judaism was, CH”V, founded on a bet.
And your source for this is
“??? ??? ???? ?? ?”
As it happens, Hashem did remove Moshe Rabbeinu’s name from Parshas Titzaveh in fulfillment of his request (not bet).
Regardless, that statement was uttered after the nation’s founding.
Judaism was founded at Har Sinai with the knowledge of the entire world. And there was no bet there.
January 12, 2014 10:40 am at 10:40 am #998026notasheepMemberThe Church of Scientology believes in evolution and says there is no G-d. It is basically atheists who try to show that they are not atheists cause they have a religion.
January 12, 2014 12:25 pm at 12:25 pm #998027👑RebYidd23ParticipantSome scientists predict that less than half of the Church of Scientology has any understanding whatsoever of its belief system.
January 12, 2014 2:17 pm at 2:17 pm #998028NaftushMemberScientology is no joke: It’s a honey trap based on pseudo-intellectual babbling that lures the uninitiated, the bored, and the susceptible. It *sounds* religious, heavy, profound. Once they’re in, the initiates are offered training in the “priesthood” at hefty expense, sometimes involving the signing over of savings, credit cards, etc. Once this has happened, there’s almost no way out. Whole families exist this way. Those who do break free report escaping within an inch of their lives.
January 12, 2014 3:40 pm at 3:40 pm #998032Bookworm120Participant@notasheep = Gosh, that isn’t even a religion! From what I’m seeing here, it’s all just a candy-coated way of justifying one’s foolish actions or notions couched in the guise of “religious practice.”
@Naftush – Based on what you’ve just pointed out, it doesn’t sound all that different from most sects of xianity. They want your money and they find some self-justified way to obtain it, be it extortion from their members’ sins or saying up-front that you need to do something so ridiculous as handing all of your savings over to a so-called place of worship.
I believe there is more than one celebrity actor who is involved in the scientology cult. At least people like him can afford to partake. Otherwise, it’s so sickeningly obviously dangerous.
Oh, and on a parting note, actors may *play* smart people on the big microwave screen, but those are merely characters. The people themselves may or may not be as intelligent, aka they just might fall for something so ridiculous.
