As a resident of Israel it brings me great pride that our national carrier continues to fly regularly scheduled routes, GPS spoofing, Iran scheming, and Nasrallah screaming be darned (to contrast with for example American Airlines, who apparently just cancelled all flights to Israel through next Pesach). What gives me even more pride is that El Al, as befitting an airline owned by an avreich, displays the in-flight zmanim to keep us in the know. What they are really missing, though, is a public recitation of Tefilas haDerech at the beginning of each flight! Tachlis, it’s not knowing where the emergency inflatable slide is that keeps you safe from errant Katyushas, it’s the Ribono shel Olam! Why not embrace this?! I recognize the potential halachic considerations of connecting flights and overnight travel, but greater minds than mine (I’m looking at you, Rabbi Hoffman) can surely address these trifling concerns.

Many people who fly on El Al are secular Jews.
Many people who fly on El Al are non-Jews.

You might want to consider that,
before you formulate policies for El Al airlines.

If I’m not mistaken, the last time I flied El-Al (last July), the entire text of תפילת הדרך is displayed on the individual monitors under the “Traditional” category.

I know Kenny Rozenberg and he is a real nice person but calling him an avriech is really pushing the envelope,
PS bourch mechaya hamesim, I see you woke up from the dead

    A religious owner?! B’H!

Who is the current posek in Israel who gets shailohs about how one can price a service when competition is weak and demand is high? Especially during the war? What did the posek answer? Is the answer posted on El Al website or reported in quarterly earnings reports?

“Who is the current posek in Israel who gets shailohs about how one can price a service when competition is weak and demand is high?”

R’ Yael Schanin, shlita, Chief Counsel and Head of Enforcement at the Israel Competition Authority.

Gadol, right, I saw him stepping in after I posted. Still, halakha prefers pro-active actions rather than reactive, and a kosher business should check the halocha before the medina forces them to a “peshara”.

AAQ: As a privately-owned business with fiduciary obligations to some of the minority investors, El Al does a reasonably good job of accommodating the needs of torah-observant passengers without disrupting/offending the travel experience of the very large number of non-observant yidden and goyim who provide the largest percentage of their revenues. After decades of state-ownership and mismanagement under prior investors, the airline is now earning a profit (low by standards of other airlines) and is building up a cash reserve to finance a massive investment program to replace its entire fleet of Boeing aircraft. Having said that, there still must be some balancing of needs for reasonably priced travel options when as now, they are operating as a monopoly service provider on most routes.

Gadol, you are right. I am just pointing out a problem. You would not call an airline “kosher” if it were serve strictly kosher meat, except there is nobody checking kashrus of meat after shechita … Same, I am asking who is a posek that is answering their shailos on monetary issues. And pricing during hostilities sounds like a reasonable question. See, for example, Bava Basra 90. This also might be relevant to Ms Harris’ price controls.
