i can’t for the life of me remember my rights and my lefts. For most people the response is automatic and immediate. for me, i hesitate, and then make a quick cheshbon which ihand i use to type, and then respond. am i retarded? do i have a syndrom, or is this more common than i think? help!

I wish I knew too. btw, which side is right? Problem is I type with both hands. I play music also with two hands (and one foot). So I have to remember my right hand is the one the does the treble clef, or holds the bow. That’s more complicated.

It should be fine as long as you don’t drive.

    #901737

Your right hand is on the same side as your right foot.

    Hmmm…

I don’t know North from South from East from West. I don’t know cardinal directions for the life of me. Even walking down a NYC block I have no idea if I’m going E, W, N, or S.

Is that similar to tzaddiq’s problem?

This is not dyspraxia, although those with dyspraxia are more prone to having left-right confusion (the name of what she may have.) As an aside, Tzaddiq, are you left handed, right handed or ambidextrous?

Difficulty in distinguishing directions is often associated with dyspraxia (sometimes called Co-ordination Difficulty Disorder, or CDD). Other associated difficulties are things like balance, language learning, kinaesthetic problems, fine motor skills etc. Do you experience any of those? Please note that dyspraxia is not a ‘problem’ but merely a way that the brain is configured.

Popa, I thought you’ll have an answer more clever than this one.

It’s actually pretty common. I don’t know what causes it. If you are right handed perhaps a good idea would be to make right all the more dominant in many aspects.

Take with your right, give with your right, pass with your right. When you walk outside pay attention to which side is on the right and walk there. I hope you’ll see results after 40 days (this is not a Segula).

HaLeiVi – a similar coping mechanism used by many dyspraxics is to take anything on the right hand side with the right hand and anything on the left with the left.

Popa – “He probably will. But he’ll wait for the right moment”.

So no longer “possibly a woman” as your subtitle claims then? ;-p

Medium Thinker – I wasn’t giving a diagnosis, merely mentioning dyspraxia is often associated with it. I was in a Bar Mitzva at the time and posting from my phone, so kept the post as short as possible, but I did clarify later, as I hope you saw.

Saw it. You should be careful, though, so you don’t freak sommeone out.

SHema Yisroel – listen dear yid and with this Shma Yisroel you will ALWAYS know right from left. The hand you use to cover your eyes for SHma Yisroel is always the right hand.

Yidden who have trouble with right and left need to be more nizhar in Shma Yisroel.

I am 50 years old and I also always hesitate before I say right or left. I have an excellent sense of direction but I do sometimes say “left” when I’m pointing right (the direction I point it always correct – I know what I mean). It never occurred to me that there might be something wrong with me. I also say the wrong word sometimes but that’s usually because I’m already thinking of something else…wonder if it’s related. My kids do find it entertaining though

No one yet diagnosed my problem:

I don’t know North from South from East from West. I don’t know cardinal directions for the life of me. Even walking down a NYC block I have no idea if I’m going E, W, N, or S.

    Anyone?

thank you to all who responded and calmed me down with the knowledge that I am in good company with other mental retards as myself…jk!!

    😉

i sometimes feel very stupid not knowing my right and left. last week i had to go to court to fight a traffic ticket, and instead of reviewing and going over what i was going to claim to the judge to exonerate myself, i kept reminding myself which is my right hand, so that when i am sworn in i don’t look like a fool and lift up my left hand. lol!

LOL, tzaddiq! The only time I could relate to your matzav is when….well …y’know, when I have one too many, lol! Only then I don’t know my foot from my nose – don’t laugh, ever try blowing your toes with a tissue every time it’s running! Now THAT’S embarrassing!

    l’chaim tzaddiq, l’chaim!
