Welcome! We’re honored.
Have a seat, and have one on the house! How do you take your coffee?
Oh, you don’t drink? Neither do I, to be honest. 🙂
Have you come in before just to read one topic you saw through the
little window into our world that is the Latest Coffee Room box,
or merely noted the titles, perhaps with some amusement,
but not thought any worth clicking on?
I think it safe to assume one of these is correct, for if you do
not notice the box, or if you had already explored this place and found it not to your liking, how could or why would you be here, eh?
But then, you have likely never seen the Main Page in all its glory!
Here, click these words and take your time; I’ll wait.
Beautiful, isn’t it?
Have you perhaps wondered what it’s like to be a part of
a loose-knit group of strangers who talk about things?
Whether it might be fun to try and figure out whether the person
you’re talking to is serious or not, without seeing or hearing them?
To be able to speak your mind or ask a question anonymously,
with no fear of repercussions from those around you or damage
to your real-life reputation?
Well, this is your chance, because in honor of Chanukah, we’re giving out free memberships, right there at the
top left of the page!
This is not a trial period – permanent membership
will be yours at no charge.
If you’re already registered with YWN, you can simply log in with
the same account and add your voice to the debate on whatever
sort-of-mostly-yeshivish-people-appropriate topic you wish!
If you’re not, you can click on “Register” at the top left and be
on in just a minute or two.
I
think it’ll be worth your while…Should you choose to join us, welcome aboard!
We’re mostly nice people. (Mostly.) And we welcome newcomers with
our arms wide open, minds ajar, and a willingness to explain things.
Be sure to read and follow the instructions on these two pages, and
you should have no trouble with our friendly neighborhood management:
A complete User’s Guide has yet to be written, but you can find more information and links that should prove useful to newcomers here:
Ah freilichen Chanukah!

Do you think we can get new members this way? If so, try and bump
this thread when you see it drop out of the top 5. Also, if your
becoming a CR member was a result of the Latest Coffee Room box
on the YWN front page, please say so.

However, if you choose not to heed my advice, to get you started, here are a few worthwhile threads to read and add your valued opinion as well:

Meet the posters: Comlink-x you met already, and rest assured, that unless s/he’s kicked out again, you’ll meet again very shortly.
If Popa Bar Aba says something nice, you probably misread the post.
If Letakien Girl says something not nice, you definitely misread it.
Patur Aval Assur is worth talking to, if you have time and patience to read through half a library.
Lamed Vov Tzaddik is AWL but should he return, I’m sure you’ll find his posts both inspiring and thought provoking.
RebYidd23 usually has excellent observations and irrefutable arguments. Only respond on his threads if you can hold your ground firmly and only when backed by proper research and argumentation.
I could go on, but I don’t want to take away from the thrill of meeting new posters.
Develop your style; cynicism is the rage in the CR, but you’re free to be optimistic, factual, troll-like, or whatever suits you best.
Certain posters have signatures, trademark emoticons or phrases. Don’t get tempted to join them.
Don’t bother trying to talk to the mods; most likely they won’t respond.
Keep your posts short; nobody’s interested in long ones.
Remember that whatever you say, everyone else will either ignore or disagree. I wish you luck.

Oh! The trolls. Do you think we should say something about the trolls?
