Going back to a four-week-old discussion about poems: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/random-questions/page/13

Do not go gentle into that good night by Dylan Thomas – an entreaty against the acceptance of old age’s infirmity and death’s inevitability. Ironically written by a shikkur who drank himself to death at a young age.

I Have a Rendezvous with Death by Alan Seeger – haunting, well written, and prescient poem by an American volunteer fighting in WWI. As he foretold, he died in combat while still in his twenties.

YouTube is owned by Google, and Google makes Chrome – hence the cross-marketing.

    ICOT,

Thanks for sharing “Rendezvous with Death”–I don’t think I’d heard of it before. For WWI poetry there’s also Wilfred Owen’s poetry; “Dulce et Decorum Est” may be the most anthologized (he was killed in action at the end of the war).

I know – I didn’t even get royalties when they printed my Browser Security Handbook! The court upheld their case because I sent it via email to be edited.

    anon for this-

“Dulce et Decorum Est” is not one I ever heard of, but I don’t know much about poems (most of those I remember are from school assignments, or randomly stumbled across, a la “Mimsy Were The Borogoves” in the sci-fi short by the same name).

I can see that it paints a clear and vivid picture of the misery of a WWI infantryman, and the denouement of the “heroic death” sentiment expressed in the title reminds me of “All Quiet On The Western Front” – when the soldiers tricked into joining the army get to confront their old schoolmaster, “Territorial Kantorek”, about his exhortations to join up.

that did not make any sense. if i’m not doing it then there’s nothing to not tell my mother. i’ll have to see when i get it off. maybe it’s healthy – you know – like therapy!
