I’ve been wondering…why is there a flavor called “bubblegum”? How did they ever market such a thing? “Introducing the ALL-NEW BUBBLEGUM! Comes in an EXCITING new flavor – BUBBLEGUM!” How on earth did that fly?
January 13, 2012 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #947538OneOfManyParticipantBump.
January 13, 2012 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm #947539BTGuyParticipantNot sure about the answer on how they market such a thing, but I do know how they got it to fly; with wings!
You bring up a good point. Bubble gum would be cheaper, too.
You bring up another good point about ice cream flavors. And why stop at Rum Raisin? Why not Tequila Lemon, Jack Daniels Peanut, Night Train Alka Seltzer…etc.
And if you think ice cream flavor marketing is bad like this, keep your eye on those little jelly bean characters. They are notorious!
January 13, 2012 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm #947540postsemgirlMemberlol I’m eating a bubble gum flavored DumDum right now.
January 13, 2012 6:21 pm at 6:21 pm #947541WIYMemberpostsemgirl
What is eating DumDums a segulah for?
January 15, 2012 2:35 am at 2:35 am #947542OneOfManyParticipantI do know how they got it to fly; with wings!
*groan*
Anyway, this is much weirder than flavored ice cream. It’s like advertising sugar-flavored candy. Or coke-flavored coke. Or medicine-flavored medicine.
Any theories?
January 15, 2012 6:02 am at 6:02 am #947543WIYMemberOneofmany
Bubble gum is the original flavor of gum however since there are so many other flavors out there they label classic flavored gum as bubble gum so those who want that can buy it.
I hope that settles this for you.
January 15, 2012 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #947544postsemgirlMemberWIY – Segula? I was eating it for lunch cuz I found it in my desk. I didn’t know there was a segula for it? Anyway I was taught that the best segula is to do torah and mitzvos.
January 15, 2012 7:31 pm at 7:31 pm #947545yitayningwutParticipantI don’t hear the kasha.
January 15, 2012 8:36 pm at 8:36 pm #947546OneOfManyParticipantPut it this way – what is the flavor, really? And why didn’t they just call it that? (Obviously, they can’t now, but why didn’t they to begin with? What on earth DID they call it to begin with?)
January 15, 2012 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #947547OneOfManyParticipantLol, I started this thread at 2 A.M.
January 16, 2012 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm #947548BTGuyParticipantHi OneOfMany.
Sorry for the groan. lol
Not even a rimshot? : )
January 16, 2012 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm #947549OneOfManyParticipantHeh heh. But I’m not sure what you were saying in your first post – it would be cheaper?
FTR, I love weirdly flavored Jelly Bellies – have you ever heard of BeanBoozled? 😉
January 16, 2012 8:04 pm at 8:04 pm #947550BTGuyParticipantHi OneOfMany.
Oh, I know. Upon reread, what I wrote is not clear. Sorry bout that.
I meant to say that buying real bubble gum would be cheaper than bubble gum ice cream, is all.
I have not heard of beanboozled flavored jelly bellies. Does it taste like beans in cholent? Or are they jelly beans with booze in them? lol
January 16, 2012 8:12 pm at 8:12 pm #947551yitayningwutParticipantThe best are Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. You can actually buy them, and they are OU certified. “Mix Contains: Banana, Black Pepper, Blueberry, Booger, Candyfloss, Cherry, Cinnamon, Dirt, Earthworm, Earwax, Grass, Green Apple, Marshmallow, Rotten Egg, Sausage, Lemon, Soap, Tutti-Fruitti, Vomit, Watermelon.”
January 16, 2012 8:15 pm at 8:15 pm #947552OneOfManyParticipantOh, I actually am b’davka referring to bubblegum-flavored bubblegum…it’s confusingly recursive.
January 16, 2012 10:09 pm at 10:09 pm #947553OneOfManyParticipantBeanBoozled Jelly Bellies are much awesomer than Bertie Bott’s. They made each gross flavor correspond to one of their regular flavors – and they made them look exactly the same.
caramel corn = moldy cheese
licorice = skunk spray
juicy pear = booger
etc.
Not for the faint of heart. But they are soooooooo much fun. 😀
January 17, 2012 1:43 am at 1:43 am #947554yitayningwutParticipantOkay then I must try them.
January 17, 2012 2:03 am at 2:03 am #947555OneOfManyParticipantLet me know how you like them. 😀
January 17, 2012 2:35 am at 2:35 am #947556yitayningwutParticipantWill do! I must say I like the scent of skunk spray so I’ll probably enjoy the taste.
January 17, 2012 2:37 am at 2:37 am #947557writersoulParticipantThe problem with BeanBoozled is that everyone I know likes toothpaste better than berry blue.
My uncle wanted to try a vomit one to say he’d tried it but he kept getting peach.
January 17, 2012 2:38 am at 2:38 am #947558OneOfManyParticipantI like baby wipes and pencil shavings. But beware of rotten egg.
January 17, 2012 3:25 am at 3:25 am #947559OneOfManyParticipantOh yeah. Toothpaste is good too.
January 17, 2012 3:27 am at 3:27 am #947560kapustaParticipantI like baby wipes and pencil shavings. But beware of rotten egg.
I’m feeling really out of the loop right now.
January 17, 2012 3:51 am at 3:51 am #947561🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantthey are flavors of jelly bellys! Bleh!
January 17, 2012 4:04 am at 4:04 am #947562OneOfManyParticipantYeah, you should try them. Baby wipes are on sale at Pathmark.
January 17, 2012 4:11 am at 4:11 am #947563WIYMemberjust because something is kosher doesnt mean you need to eat it.
January 17, 2012 4:46 am at 4:46 am #947564kapustaParticipantI guess to each his own but I for one don’t think I would be able to swallow something which goes by the name of baby wipes. Pencil shavings and toothpaste don’t rank too high on the list either. I would love to know how they pair flavors and names though. (And how they come up with them!)
January 17, 2012 4:51 am at 4:51 am #947565OneOfManyParticipantHm, that argument would only be valid if the person in question did not in fact want to eat it. 🙂
January 18, 2012 9:20 pm at 9:20 pm #947566BTGuyParticipantlol @ *kapusta* @ baby wipes.
January 18, 2012 10:15 pm at 10:15 pm #947567ToiParticipantgood q
June 24, 2012 2:52 am at 2:52 am #947568OneOfManyParticipantHow to you pronounce the name “Samuel”?
(a) SAM-yuhl
(b) SAM-yoouhl
(c) SAM-yoo-ehl
(d) Other (please describe)
Feedback very much appreciated. Thanks.
June 24, 2012 3:25 am at 3:25 am #947569yitayningwutParticipant(b)
June 24, 2012 5:45 am at 5:45 am #947570OneOfManyParticipantYoish I knew it…do you think I can pretend that it’s three syllables? *sayyessayyessayyes*
June 24, 2012 6:26 am at 6:26 am #947571yitayningwutParticipantFor sure! You can stretch out the “uhl” into its own syllable without it sounding too weird.
June 24, 2012 7:25 am at 7:25 am #947572OneOfManyParticipantOkay then…here it is:
Crossed by an albatross
Samuel Coleridge
Wrote a long Rime of a
Mariner old.
Sentimentality,
With water everywhere,
Also, to fit the meter, the penultimate line has to be WITH-wa-ter-EV-ry-where even though there should probably be an accent on the wa…okay or nay?
June 24, 2012 2:04 pm at 2:04 pm #947573yitayningwutParticipantNice! That’s hilarious. 😀 But how did you gain with Samuel being three syllables, you still only have five on the whole line? Maybe you want to pronounce Samuel with two syllables and stick in Taylor? Or keep this pronunciation and stick in “T”? Or keep it how it is and have five for some reason? Also I’m no expert but I think the water line in fine the way it is. Good stuff. ^_^
June 24, 2012 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #947574OneOfManyParticipantWeeeell, it’s a machlokes. Apparently Coleridge has rhymed his own name as KOHl-ehr-idj, so I feel within my rights to do so as well. ^_^
June 24, 2012 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm #947575yitayningwutParticipantOh cool. I was choshesh that that was your pshat.
February 17, 2013 3:24 am at 3:24 am #947576OneOfManyParticipantIs there a source for the switching of the tune of Lecha Dodi by “Lo sevoshi”?
February 17, 2013 3:41 am at 3:41 am #947577yitayningwutParticipantDunno, but I have to tell you I recently did try (or rather was coerced into trying) those Jelly Bellies. The skunk I was okay with, but the rotten egg really made me gag…
February 17, 2013 3:48 am at 3:48 am #947578WIYMemberOneof
You go to shul Friday night?
February 17, 2013 4:06 am at 4:06 am #947579OneOfManyParticipantyitay: lol ^_^ Yes, rotten egg is definitely the most disgusting. I thought skunk was pretty bad, though…vomit was pretty ho-hum, in my opinion.
WIY: No. It came up in a different context.
February 17, 2013 5:31 am at 5:31 am #947580OneOfManyParticipantOh and speaking of dares–I forgot to take extreme exception to your comment about Disney on that chemistry thread of yours the other day. I dare you to watch Disney/Pixar’s Up and then report back what it felt like to EAT YOUR WORDS. 😛
February 17, 2013 7:28 am at 7:28 am #947581Torah613TorahParticipantOOM: Re Lo Sevoshi – I always wondered that too!!
February 17, 2013 1:14 pm at 1:14 pm #947582yitayningwutParticipantLol, okay, I’ll get back to you. But for the record, when I said Disney then I was referring to the traditional fairy tales which they have been in the business of promoting for the past ninety years. But let it not go unsaid that I think Disney is awesome.
February 17, 2013 2:15 pm at 2:15 pm #947583WIYMemberOneof and Torah
According to halachafortoday it is al pi kabbalah.
February 17, 2013 2:18 pm at 2:18 pm #947584OneOfManyParticipantOh, okay. I agree with you on that one. 🙂
April 21, 2013 4:25 am at 4:25 am #947585OneOfManyParticipantWhy are all the books more expensive in Canada? Do they have a tax on reading or something?
April 22, 2013 5:50 am at 5:50 am #947586SaysMeMemberha, i’ve noticed that and wondered about it too!
