I’ve been wondering…why is there a flavor called “bubblegum”? How did they ever market such a thing? “Introducing the ALL-NEW BUBBLEGUM! Comes in an EXCITING new flavor – BUBBLEGUM!” How on earth did that fly?

Not sure about the answer on how they market such a thing, but I do know how they got it to fly; with wings!

You bring up a good point. Bubble gum would be cheaper, too.

You bring up another good point about ice cream flavors. And why stop at Rum Raisin? Why not Tequila Lemon, Jack Daniels Peanut, Night Train Alka Seltzer…etc.

And if you think ice cream flavor marketing is bad like this, keep your eye on those little jelly bean characters. They are notorious!

    *groan*

Anyway, this is much weirder than flavored ice cream. It’s like advertising sugar-flavored candy. Or coke-flavored coke. Or medicine-flavored medicine.

    Any theories?

Bubble gum is the original flavor of gum however since there are so many other flavors out there they label classic flavored gum as bubble gum so those who want that can buy it.

I hope that settles this for you.

WIY – Segula? I was eating it for lunch cuz I found it in my desk. I didn’t know there was a segula for it? Anyway I was taught that the best segula is to do torah and mitzvos.

Put it this way – what is the flavor, really? And why didn’t they just call it that? (Obviously, they can’t now, but why didn’t they to begin with? What on earth DID they call it to begin with?)

Heh heh. But I’m not sure what you were saying in your first post – it would be cheaper?

FTR, I love weirdly flavored Jelly Bellies – have you ever heard of BeanBoozled? 😉

    Hi OneOfMany.

Oh, I know. Upon reread, what I wrote is not clear. Sorry bout that.

I meant to say that buying real bubble gum would be cheaper than bubble gum ice cream, is all.

I have not heard of beanboozled flavored jelly bellies. Does it taste like beans in cholent? Or are they jelly beans with booze in them? lol

The best are Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. You can actually buy them, and they are OU certified. “Mix Contains: Banana, Black Pepper, Blueberry, Booger, Candyfloss, Cherry, Cinnamon, Dirt, Earthworm, Earwax, Grass, Green Apple, Marshmallow, Rotten Egg, Sausage, Lemon, Soap, Tutti-Fruitti, Vomit, Watermelon.”

Oh, I actually am b’davka referring to bubblegum-flavored bubblegum…it’s confusingly recursive.

BeanBoozled Jelly Bellies are much awesomer than Bertie Bott’s. They made each gross flavor correspond to one of their regular flavors – and they made them look exactly the same.

    caramel corn = moldy cheese

    licorice = skunk spray

    juicy pear = booger

    etc.

Not for the faint of heart. But they are soooooooo much fun. 😀

The problem with BeanBoozled is that everyone I know likes toothpaste better than berry blue.

My uncle wanted to try a vomit one to say he’d tried it but he kept getting peach.

I guess to each his own but I for one don’t think I would be able to swallow something which goes by the name of baby wipes. Pencil shavings and toothpaste don’t rank too high on the list either. I would love to know how they pair flavors and names though. (And how they come up with them!)

For sure! You can stretch out the “uhl” into its own syllable without it sounding too weird.

    Okay then…here it is:

    Crossed by an albatross

    Samuel Coleridge

Wrote a long Rime of a

    Mariner old.

    Sentimentality,

    With water everywhere,

Also, to fit the meter, the penultimate line has to be WITH-wa-ter-EV-ry-where even though there should probably be an accent on the wa…okay or nay?

Nice! That’s hilarious. 😀 But how did you gain with Samuel being three syllables, you still only have five on the whole line? Maybe you want to pronounce Samuel with two syllables and stick in Taylor? Or keep this pronunciation and stick in “T”? Or keep it how it is and have five for some reason? Also I’m no expert but I think the water line in fine the way it is. Good stuff. ^_^

Weeeell, it’s a machlokes. Apparently Coleridge has rhymed his own name as KOHl-ehr-idj, so I feel within my rights to do so as well. ^_^

yitay: lol ^_^ Yes, rotten egg is definitely the most disgusting. I thought skunk was pretty bad, though…vomit was pretty ho-hum, in my opinion.

WIY: No. It came up in a different context.

Oh and speaking of dares–I forgot to take extreme exception to your comment about Disney on that chemistry thread of yours the other day. I dare you to watch Disney/Pixar’s Up and then report back what it felt like to EAT YOUR WORDS. 😛

Lol, okay, I’ll get back to you. But for the record, when I said Disney then I was referring to the traditional fairy tales which they have been in the business of promoting for the past ninety years. But let it not go unsaid that I think Disney is awesome.
