If someone you knew had an eating disorder, what would you tell them?

Depends what kind of eating disorder. There are many kinds, from people who need to eat through tubes and can’t eat directly into their mouths, to people who have a loss of taste so all of their eating has no taste etc… Like one of the symptoms of the coronavirus.

Please let everyone know what kind of eating disorder so you can get the best answers applying to your question

As in anorexia, bulimia, binge disorder, etc….
I would like to know how people would respond or react to, or just tell someone that they knew if they had an eating disorder.

Someone with anorexia, bulimia, binge disorder should be reminded that all his/her strength doesn’t come from food and sleep etc…. And that food comes and goes etc…. But that a person’s strength comes directly from Hashem. Boruch hnosein layoeif Coach….. Hashem who gives everyone strength and we say every morning in davening. Yes sure we all have to do our part and stay healthy with eating etc…. But if ANY person starts to make this a part of his life and thinking mind then he/she will start to be satisfied and full with eating much less food then they used to and can then take themselves to losing alot of weight with Hashems help.

May the person have a full refuah shleima

Not enough food: eat or you’ll be sick. No excuses.
Too much food:well I binge on a nice snack or two so who am i to judge but with anorexia, its unattractive to be too too skinny. Better to be average than below average weight. And most importantly dont forget King Solomon: I’m black but I’m beautiful.(I’m scorched from sin but still beautiful) no need to be unhappy! HaShem is always our G-d and will help all who ask in truth for His help.

If it’s not your close relative or the closest of friends you say nothing, unless you have a doctor/[patient or Rav/Congregant relationship.
It is not your place to discuss an eating disorder unless you are asked.
    Basically, mind your own business.

Usually accompanied by other issues such as anxiety. If they are suffering from anorexia that is rooted in anxiety, the answer is to get treated for the anxiety first.

If it’s a serious eating disorder, you should get a mental health professional involved right away.
There are long term serious effects……
Anorexia can be life threatening and ruin a girl’s opportunity to have children.
Force them to go see a professional!
