Is it true that Ashkenazim can’t shower in the 9 days?

The only diference between Ashkenazim and Sefardim is when all halachos start, for Ashkenazim its on Rosh Chodesh Av While for Sefardim its the week of Tishu B’Av.

As to taking a shower it depands on many things (like if you work in the outside heat, are you specialy sensitive, is it very hot, do you have a medical condition etc.) so one should ask his LOR.

Everyone will tell you different things. Many hold that they only shower for shabbos. Some do take showers 2-3 times but only with cold water. you are certainly not supposed to be disgusting.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I had an Iraqi friend in yeshiva who was afraid to take his shirt off by the doctor during the nine days.

It depends what the point of the shower is, for pleasure or for cleanliness

You can take a shower if it’s for hygiene. You can’t take a shower if it’s for pleasure. I’m not a posek, but I think that you can use warm water. Everybody should ask their rav. Personally, nowadays in the heat that is engulfing the US, you can’t go for a week and a half without a shower. Even if you want to wait until Friday l’kavod Shabbos, that’s kind of crazy.

Someone told me Ashkenazim can’t take a shower in the 9 days, I guess it isn’t true… Thank G-d!

It really annoys me when I walk into a grocery store and I walk past some Jewish men who I can’t stand near because of all the layers they wear! I didn’t wanna think about how it would be this week…

Step in for a second. Step out. Lather. Rinse quicky. Pretty much that.

There are some diffrent opinions to what you can do. For hygienic reasons you may take a shower. But i think it says that not a full one just some parts of the body. Also not with warm water but that doesnt mean it has to be icecold. For Shabbes the minhag is to take a full one lekavod Shabbat.

Kylbdnr: No, it’s not true. Is it true thae Sfardim can have 7 wives?

I think people should shower when absolutely necessary.Last night I had the misfortune to stand close to someone who doesn’t share this opinion. Truthfully, it was the closest that I ever came to upchucking from the scent of another person – and it was a woman.

kylbdnr: Yes, it’s true. Ashkenazim don’t take warm/hot shower in the 9 days except for Erez Shabbos.

yaakov doe: Yes, Sefardim can halachicly have more than one wife, but don’t because the secular laws don’t allow it where they live.

Only 4 as per the shulhan Aruch, if legal.

Where does Shulchan Aruch say the the most wives at one time is 4?

    Even HaEzer 76:7

It starts out by saying that a man is technically allowed to marry as many as he wants, assuming that he can support them in all ways. But it ends off by saying that the Sages commanded at most 4.

    Based on Yevamot 44a.

I play basketball every day in the summer, and I shower right afterwards. I was told that is perfectly fine…and even recommended.

According to “Guidelines” by Rabbi Barclay and Rabbi Jaeger “It is forbidden to bathe or wash oneself for pleasure, but permitted for basic cleanliness. Therefore, under normal circumstances, one may not wash any part of the body with hot water, and may only wash the hands , face, and feet with cold water without soap.” Then it goes on to say that you are allowed to use soap in the areas that are dirty and have perspiration and won’t be clean with just water… This may be a little machmir so ask your LOR.

This year for 1st time in 14 years we have to grapple as to what defines the week of Tisho b’Ov?
