I would like to hear the different opinions you guys have about using protektzia to get into a Yeshiva.
(a) If there are limited spaces, and you are more suitable than anybody else applying.
(b) If there are limited spaces, and you are not more suitable than anybody else applying.
(c) If there are no limited spaces, but based on the criteria in the Yeshiva, other people in your circumstances would not be accepted.
Is it morally incorrect to use Protektzia to get in when others cannot? Or is this normal “Hishtadlus”?

They may have bigger problems than yours and not just about a yeshiva. Ask a rav. And always judge favorably

May 17, 2013 5:27 pm at 5:27 pm #953294benignumanParticipantI think that situation (a) is okay, (b) is not okay, and with respect to (c)it depends on exactly what those circumstances are and why they apply to you.

May 17, 2013 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm #953296writersoulParticipantProtektzia is pull or influence.
For instance, if I want to got to Prestigious Seminary A, then I have a better chance if my mother’s best friend is the principal.

May 18, 2013 5:37 pm at 5:37 pm #953298Shopping613 ðŸŒParticipantIt ussually involves money or connections or both

May 19, 2013 5:22 am at 5:22 am #953299VogueMemberI used it to get into a seminary, and I was miserable there. I regret it, don’t use it.

And if you had gotten in without “pull” you would have been happy there? I don’t follow how using pull lead to your dissatisfaction in Sem.
May 19, 2013 6:01 am at 6:01 am #953301VogueMemberno, but without pull, I would never have found out about the seminary. I feel like I was “pulled and pushed” into it.

May 19, 2013 1:05 pm at 1:05 pm #953303ChortkovParticipantHalevi – I like that summary. It would be wrong for them to accept me, but not wrong for me to use it.
Case (C): The Yeshiva does not accept people to the top shiur who have not already been in any Yeshiva for 3 years. Using connections, it may be possible for one to get in even without those 3 years. The Yeshiva has no lack of places, but they will not accept people too young. Is it morally correct to use the connections to push myself in? (They do not accept people younger because they cannot cope with the shiur. Even if somebody exceptional comes in, they make a “lo plug” rule that NOBODY can come in. With connections, {for somebody who has been advised that he can cope with the shiur}, one can get in. Right or wrong?
