1. Chaim Burich honikvetcher and Yechiel michel fenstermacher
2. We do! but not at the expense of chilul shabbos
3. “And in any case, these people arenโt keeping Shabbos anyhow.” Yes you said that, so why cant they have their busses in Tel Avivi?“I am not taking sides here. I am not qualified to.”
I’m not sure why you arent qualified to take sides. You lay out the positions pretty well now decide which makes more sense to you. Nobody is asking you to decide for klal yisorel if you feel uncomfortable doing that. This is a forum we bounce ideas of each other. I certainly am qualified to take a side, and this case is pretty simple, you can take a side too
May 4, 2017 12:54 am at 12:54 am #1269665Avi KParticipantLU, who said it’s allowed to speed? This is a public safety law and everyone agrees that one must obey it. As for your question about Sun, here it is a regular work day. It is not, as one rav derisively said, Shabbat shenia shel galuyot. However (@Winnie) the schools get a two-day holiday. One for the actual Lag b’Omer and one for the next day in deference to the Rabbanut. Actually there is an additional logic in this as Sepharadim do not get haircuts until Lad b’Omer as they require the full 33 days.
May 4, 2017 3:10 am at 3:10 am #1269675WinnieThePoohParticipantWhat is a baal berit? Are you referring C”vS to the A”Z of that name? And by calling everyone A”Z on yom haatzmaut, admitting it is a wrong practice? See shoftim 8:33:
ืดืืืื ื ืืืจื ืืืขืืื ืืืฉืืื ืืื ืืขื ืืจืืช ืืืืืืืืด
ืจืฉืดื: ืืขื ืืจืืช-ืื ืฉืืMay 4, 2017 3:11 am at 3:11 am #1269676WinnieThePoohParticipantSun is also a school day off? I checked the misrad hachinuch website and on the school calendar posted there, only Mon is listed as a day off. Is this something new/change? By the way, chihuch atzmai is off on Sun.
I don’t understand the logic of your last statement. How does kids having off Mon morning affect whether people can get haircuts or not on that day? Or is the fact that haircuts are allowed a reason to celebrate and have a day off? So then 20 Iyar, 21 Iyar… should also be days off.May 4, 2017 7:11 am at 7:11 am #1269702โ DaasYochid โParticipantPretty sure he meant the father of an eight day old boy (or the sandek).
May 4, 2017 7:11 am at 7:11 am #1269703Avi KParticipantWinnie,
1. You are correct. I read an article that said that it is two days.
2. What is the logic in having a day off at all?May 4, 2017 9:47 am at 9:47 am #1269789Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantAVi – I was talking about Sunday of Lag Ba’Omer. It didn’t occur to me that you would think that I meant every Sunday.
The reason I asked was: if the schools are off on Monday instead of Sunday, then it sounds like WTP is right and that means they are “pushing off Lag ‘BaOmer. But if they are off both days, maybe they just think that people are tired from their Lag B’Omer celebrations and need the next day off.
May 4, 2017 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm #1269981WinnieThePoohParticipantThat was my first assumption, but what did he mean then that everyone- men and women and children – are baalei brit on yom haatzmaut! That made no sense, so I had to find another explanation. Also, while the father of the baby and sandek may be allowed to get haricuts, they don’t say hallel with a bracha.
May 4, 2017 2:33 pm at 2:33 pm #1269986WinnieThePoohParticipantSo is it 2 days or one- calendar or article?
I never did understand why you need a day off at all either. If kids were up late the night before, then start school an hour or 2 later. When I was growing up, we had school, with a scheduled trip. That was inevitably ruined because it rained.May 4, 2017 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #1270154Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantWTP – when I have a chance, I’ll try to find out when my niece is off -she’s in a Dati Leumi Iriyah Gan. (although I would assume that what you saw on the Misrad HaChinuch website is correct)

April 17, 2018 5:36 pm at 5:36 pm #1507674JosephParticipantTear kriah and don sackcloth.
April 20, 2018 8:03 am at 8:03 am #1509150Avi KParticipantJoseph, those who deny the great miracles and fail to see Hahsem’s guidance should indeed tear keriah and don sackcloth (as well as ashes) as part of their teshuva,
April 20, 2018 8:03 am at 8:03 am #1509146โ๏ธcoffee addictParticipantI was told today is really yom haatzmaut and since itโs erev shabbos it was celebrated yesterday (shul didnโt say tachnun both days)
April 20, 2018 9:23 am at 9:23 am #1509193JosephParticipantCA: I never would have thought you daven in a Modern Orthodox shul.
April 20, 2018 10:10 am at 10:10 am #1509209mentsch1ParticipantZD
the real question is
why doesnt satmar hold nitel nacht at night?April 20, 2018 10:17 am at 10:17 am #1509214Little FroggieParticipantAviK: As I wrote so many times before, it’s a demonstration and expression of HaShem’s great love of His children, IN SPITE of their connection (or lack thereof) to Him. No one will argue that the “founding fathers” were worthy (nuff said)…. It’s HaShem’s undeserved, unbound love and kindness He extends toward His people and His land, His especial gift.
So, for that we thank Him every day. Not on a day some bare-headed politician decided to announce “let us be like all other nations” (five minutes before the zman (or was it afterwards?))
April 20, 2018 11:35 am at 11:35 am #1509257โ๏ธcoffee addictParticipantJoe,
Itโs a shul that finds any excuse not to say tachnun and they are on my way up to work at an ok time
April 20, 2018 12:55 pm at 12:55 pm #1509289ubiquitinParticipant“So, for that we thank Him every day”
Of course we thank Him every day.
but choosing one day to jighlight said event is appropriate.Asking Hashem for MEchila on Y”K doesnt mean we dont do it everyday
Remebering Yetzios Mitzrayim on PEsach doesnt mean we dont do it everyday
Thanking Hashem for the Torah on shavuos Doesnt mean we dont do it everyday
Celebrating Nes chanukha, Purim on the days they occured doesnt mean we dont thank Hashem every day
When Satmar commemorates 21 Kislev or Lubavitch on 19 Kislev doesnt mean they dont thank Hashem everyday.you wrote that it was ” a demonstration and expression of HaShemโs great love of His children, IN SPITE of their connection (or lack thereof) to Him.”
and What a huge demonstartion it was! by celbratign it one day in no way dminishes the thanks w have every day .
