This deserves a thread of its own…
By poster “Curiosity”:
CTLawyer – I’m familiar with both words, thank you very much. It was a careless mistake. Pardon me if I don’t rough draft, revise, edit, and peer-review my Coffee Room opinions before posting. If you’d like, I can go through all your posts and check for errors before giving you an English lesson, and then presume your educational background before deriding it. But that wouldn’t be very nice or helpful.
July 26, 2018 4:48 pm at 4:48 pm #1565632DovidBTParticipantThis forum software could use a couple of features:
1. A preview function.
2. A longer editing window. Every post is moderated, and by time the poster sees that his/her post is approved and posted, it’s often too late to edit it.July 26, 2018 5:01 pm at 5:01 pm #1565678JosephParticipantThe editing timeframe is an easily modifiable setting in the coffee room by an administrator.
July 27, 2018 8:07 am at 8:07 am #1565954☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou can write your post in a word processing program (e.g. Microsoft Word) and copy/paste it.
July 27, 2018 10:23 am at 10:23 am #1566031JosephParticipantA word processor won’t correct usage of the wrong word.
July 27, 2018 10:32 am at 10:32 am #1566053yitzchokmParticipantI don’t proofread my posts, more than a courtesy glance.
It’s not worth the effort and not necessary
July 27, 2018 11:57 am at 11:57 am #1566063Midwest2ParticipantWhy not just read through the post once before posting it? Besides checking spelling and usage errors, you might have a second thought about what you wrote and want to change it a bit (or even just not post it). In writing, second thoughts are usually better thoughts.
July 27, 2018 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #1566227👑RebYidd23ParticipantJoseph, some word processors can correct word usage.
July 28, 2018 10:40 pm at 10:40 pm #1566278☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantA word processor won’t correct usage of the wrong word.
So correct it yourself, before you post.
July 29, 2018 12:39 am at 12:39 am #1566313JosephParticipantSo correct it yourself, before you post.
“Pardon me if I don’t rough draft, revise, edit, and peer-review my Coffee Room opinions before posting.”
July 31, 2018 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #1567698Amil ZolaParticipantWhy bother? YWN doesn’t bother proofreading their stories before publishing them online.
July 31, 2018 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm #1567719GadolhadorahParticipantYittzy:
Its very easy to hire a technical editor to sit by your computer with you all day and proof all your postings so that your will not c’v, waste the time of the ehrliche Coffee Room readers who are truly offended by typos, grammatical errors and wrong syntax. Also, she can help your wife in the kitchen between posts and offer you chizuk when you are offended by something Joseph says.August 1, 2018 11:38 am at 11:38 am #1567886yehudayonaParticipantJoseph, “proofreading” is a single word. AZ, YWN doesn’t even correct errors when they’re pointed out. I don’t think they’ve ever correctly spelled Salomon (as in R’ Matisyahu Salomon).
August 1, 2018 12:49 pm at 12:49 pm #1567907JosephParticipantYY: Are you looking to take over haifagirl’s old job as the in-house language police?
August 1, 2018 10:30 pm at 10:30 pm #1568224yehudayonaParticipantI don’t generally correct others’ errors in CR posts, but in a topic such as this, you set yourself up.
August 2, 2018 12:39 am at 12:39 am #1568245JosephParticipantYY, that doesn’t make much sense. The very point of this topic is to tell people to stop expecting informal quick paced internet postings to be viewed with a legal microscope.
