So last week while I was http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/like-a-chicken-noch-kapparos, I spent the night in a (very) strange city by the house of a former roommate from my wild days.
So I get’s to his house, and he lives in a cooperative living arrangement with a bunch of other dudes, one of whom has a 2 year old baby. And he is the kind of person who when you ask him a favor (like to stay by him), he says yes first and figures out how later.
So basically he has a room with one bed and a almost fully occupied floor space. So he tells me he was planning to sleep on the roof anyway. So I say I will also sleep on the roof.
So he climbs out the window of his room, onto a second story roof, and then climbs a ladder up to the third floor roof. But I cannot do that, because his window is not on top of the roof–it is like 2 feet over, and no way I’m climbing that. So he tells me to try the bathroom window on the third floor. So I do that, and climb out from behind the bathtub onto the roof. And he puts his knee up for me to step on because otherwise I can’t reach the roof with my leg while in the window.
And then we sleep on the roof, and it is only slightly slanted, so we sleep with our feet towards the edge so only they will fall off, and there is like 2 feet from our two (4) feet to the edge of the roof.
I tell him we will find somewhere else to stay when my wife comes with me.
And it’s a good thing it didn’t rain on us.
And now I’m ready to sleep in the sukka.
