January 18, 2012 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm #844758amichaiParticipantthere are plenty of half day programs where you can take courses, earn credits, and work part time. the world is full of wonder. you just have to knock on the door.
January 18, 2012 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm #844759brach18ParticipantI actually know of this bais yaakov program in Israel where you can get a profession and also be taking kodesh classes at the same time. the choices of profession were graphic design, interior design, cosmotology and personal training. The program is called Halichos. They have a website halichos.org
January 18, 2012 4:41 pm at 4:41 pm #844760ayshosheeParticipantmy point is though that i dont wanna go to college yet cuz i dont know what i wanna do in life so y waste time and money?
January 18, 2012 4:56 pm at 4:56 pm #844761TheGoqParticipantThere are other jobs besides teaching, teaching is not for everyone look in the want ads find something that suites you.
January 18, 2012 5:56 pm at 5:56 pm #844762brach18ParticipantI agree with the Goq. You sort of have to start figuring out what you’re interested in or what you’re good at. You don’t want to be stuck at the very end of the year with no direction and no plans
January 18, 2012 6:59 pm at 6:59 pm #844763OneOfManyParticipantLol…by having a life crisis at just about this point you are a typical post-sem girl…welcome to the club. 🙂
January 18, 2012 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm #844764ayshosheeParticipantim not even finished yet and im freaking out thats a good idea Goq only issue is im in israel and not in my hometown in america and i wanna start figuring things out
January 18, 2012 9:33 pm at 9:33 pm #844765ImaofthreeParticipantThis is why I made sure my daughter knew what she was going to do before she set foot on the plane to seminary.
January 18, 2012 9:36 pm at 9:36 pm #844766ayshosheeParticipantmy family was a bit preoccupied with some major family happenings and saddnesses at the time
January 18, 2012 9:39 pm at 9:39 pm #844767TheGoqParticipantAyshoshee go to your hometown newspapers website and look at the classifieds.
January 18, 2012 9:49 pm at 9:49 pm #844768ayshosheeParticipantoh i guess thats an idea i didnt know there was such things oh i gotta start thinking
January 18, 2012 9:59 pm at 9:59 pm #844769bptParticipant1st half of sem already behind you? Wow, that must make you AT LEAST 19. No wonder you’re in panic mode. Life has almost past you by! :/
Do yourself a favor. Please read the “NASI – The inside scoop” thread, specifically about what said in school / sem about making choices in life. I’d be interested to hear your take on this.
And please, don’t just read the opening post and comment. Read each post, draw a conclusion, and tell us what you think.
January 18, 2012 10:02 pm at 10:02 pm #844770OneOfManyParticipantayshoshee, I also wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do while in seminary. I went to college anyway and figured out what I liked there. It’s not really a waste of time, because you have to take a complement of required courses regardless of what you’re majoring in. And whatever you decide to do, you will probably need some sort of degree (unless you want to make $10/hour for the rest of your life). Pushing it off will only inconvenience you later on.
January 18, 2012 10:19 pm at 10:19 pm #844771ayshosheeParticipantbpt that thing is way too long for me too read i will just get lost and prob bored and i know that im not old i would just like to have an idea of life you know that sorta thing a dream a plan
@ oneofmany the things that interest me are not things that u go to a regular college for though except for things that i just totally dropped cuz i wouldnt be able to deal with all the work
January 18, 2012 10:25 pm at 10:25 pm #844772ParshamanMemberIf you are in seminary you should have Rabbeim or teachers to talk to, don’t waste the rest of your year looking for help in the cofferoom otherwise you are just going to miss out on the time you have left. It is important to have plans for the future but it is also important to live in the moment, especially when that moment is once in a lifetime opportunity to spend the year in Israel.
January 18, 2012 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #844773bptParticipant” that thing is way too long for me too read i will just get lost and prob bored “
And you have college aspirations?
Brace yourself for a life of $10/hr. And when your Sem teachers tell you, ONLY take a learing boy, listen to them.
You’ve earned one.
January 18, 2012 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #844774OneOfManyParticipantthe things that interest me are not things that u go to a regular college for though except for things that i just totally dropped cuz i wouldnt be able to deal with all the work
It doesn’t even make a difference what you major in. If you have any degree, in whatever profession, you are infinitely more likely to be hired than one who does not. Take me, for example – I’m majoring in a pretty specialized field. Yet somehow, all the entry-level positions in this field require a B.A. in any discipline – they don’t care which. Even someone more technically qualified would have a hard time elbowing out the person with the degree.
As for the work, it’s entirely dependent on which college you choose and which career path you ultimately take. It shouldn’t really impede your decision to go.
January 18, 2012 10:48 pm at 10:48 pm #844775OneOfManyParticipantbpt: Yoish, she’s just anxious and confused. Leave her alone.

January 18, 2012 11:22 pm at 11:22 pm #844777bptParticipant“Yoish”
Priceless. I haven’t heard one of those is ages.
Ok, Shoshi. I saw your post on the “nasi” page. I’ll be right there.
January 18, 2012 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #844778OneOfManyParticipantayshoshee: Hmm. Why don’t you tell us what sort of things you are considering?
bpt: Lol, if you only knew me IRL… 😛
January 19, 2012 12:29 pm at 12:29 pm #844779longarekelMemberGo to the kosel and put a note in the wall. Wear a red thread from kever rachel. Take challah every day. Seriously, just ask Hashem to show you what to do. You’ll be fine. (And it’s ok to be different. Just be yourself, and you’ll have an enjoyable life.)
January 19, 2012 12:47 pm at 12:47 pm #844780ayshosheeParticipantwell im really into performing and design but not really “frum” jobs
January 19, 2012 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm #844781chassidishY.U.typeMemberI suggest doing what you like to do. You can be the one to start a “frum” way of performing and design. There’s got to be a demand for that. I once had an idea of doing frum motion pictures. I’m a good actor and I knew steven segal from his younger days(if you never heard of him that’s good). He used to be a frum boy like me, but he couldn’t resist the temptation of hollywood. I resisted and I’m happy I passed the test. I think you’ll find your niche in the frum world. There are frum productions out there and you can design for frum companies. Hatzlacha!
January 19, 2012 7:25 pm at 7:25 pm #844782OneOfManyParticipantPerforming: Go to auditions (is this what they’re teaching you in seminary?)
Design: Fashion? Interior? Graphic? Architecture? Definitely need school for all of those. (I think Middlepath is going some sort of design…consumer design? Don’t remember.)
January 19, 2012 7:39 pm at 7:39 pm #844783trak443Participantayshoshee,
where (city) do you live?
i work in a bais yaakov high school in the ny area, and they are looking to hire a post-seminary girl in the office starting during the summer.
January 19, 2012 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm #844784ayshosheeParticipantchassidushyutype- u mean steven spielberg? thats a nice dream but at the age of 19 i cant go and start something so major! i wish!
oneofmany- no thats not thats just what i love doing it makes me feel amazing and it makes me truely happy when i make other people happy through my acting!
trak443- i dont live in ny i live “out of town” middle america as pba calls it lol
January 19, 2012 9:46 pm at 9:46 pm #844785OneOfManyParticipantI think you can pursue that – you volunteer to help out with production at your local BY, try to get on board some of these women’s movies that they produce from time to time. Maybe you can even get a position! But I’m not totally sure it’s a good idea for a long-term goal – there just aren’t enough venues in performing for a frum girl to pursue.
There’s also nothing wrong with trying to balance your hobby with another job. You can go to school and get a job as whatever and still pursue your dreams.
January 19, 2012 10:01 pm at 10:01 pm #844786ayshosheeParticipanti dont really have interest in other careers not sure what to do no point of pursuing a career that i dont enjoy that means when im finished school and get a job in that feild i will hate going to work every single day
