This is an IQ test which tests your intelligence relative to Popa. It is not a very sensitive test, and has only two possible outcomes.

    Take the test:

Question 1: Do you clean your menora in the dishwasher?

    Answers: Yes; No.

Now add up your yeses and nos.

If you answered one or more nos, you are not as smart as Popa.

If you answered less than 1 no, the results are inconclusive.

And clearly we know what DY didn’t get on the test.

Sometimes, but I prefer to clean my menorah in a more spacious location where there is more elbow room.

Thank you, Gales. Now I understand the question.

Why do I get the sense that this test was rigged in popa’s favor?

Seriously, though, unless it’s a cheap tin menorah, I wouldn’t do it. Automatic dishwasher soap is abrasive, and I wouldn’t take a chance on silver or silver plate. Glass cups could break during the cycle (unless you somehow secure them) which could not only ruin the glasses (obviously), the shards could ruin the dishwasher.

This won’t help you pass popa’s IQ test, as a matter of fact it definitely won’t, But-

When you carefully clean and polish and put away your Menora, have in mind that you’re doing it as hechsher Mitzvah for next year’s lighting, and ask that you and your family will all be together to enjoy the Mitzvah.

So, popa, how did your menorah come out?

How many beers would I need to drink in order to boost my IQ to make it to Popa’s?

My aim in life is to achieve Popa’s IQ level.

I’ve been hitting myself over the head with a frying pan for a week now, and my lobotomy is scheduled for tomorrow.

Popa definitely has a higher IQ than DY. Had DY started this thread, it would have read something like this:

I have a great idea. Instead of hand washing my menorah, I’ll just put it in the dishwasher.

The thread would have been a dud.

Compare that to popa’s brilliant formulation in the OP and tell me honestly: who’s got the higher IQ?

    Here’s a better iq test:

You have a bath full of water, and a teaspoon and a hat. Which do you use to empty out the water from the bath?

If there is a drain and the drain is not clogged, use the drain.

If there is a clogged drain, unclog it.

If there is no drain, pick up the tub and empty it out.

If the tub is attached to the floor, and there is no drain, jump in and splash the water out.

If you don’t want to get wet, sell the teaspoon and the hat and buy a bucket.

You put your menorah and some Palmolive in the bathtub. The menorah gets clean, and the grease unclogs the drain.

    Most people do have dishwashers.

In our house I AM the dishwasher!

I get so fed up when I hear/read rich people acting as if everybody has the same standard of living that they do.

I was our dishes in a sink, with soap and water and a scrubber sponge and gloves. And we rarely use disposables.

I wash our menorah on the kitchen counter gently with a little soap and a non-abrasive sponge.

And I get a high score on every IQ test I encounter.

But not as high as popa.

“Look at what you get, not at what other people get.”

That’s what I tell my kids.

Honestly, I’m not jealous of your dishwasher. Or your menorah. Or your disposable dishes. But keep in mind that not everybody has what you have, materially or intellectually.
