So recently we got our kids a new (read: less than 10 years old) Purim CD. It was really good. Told by an excellent storyteller, he went through all the major medrashim with appropriate drama and flair. There was just one thing that really irked me. The sound design was horrendous. Driving in the car we had to keep moving the volume up and down to hear what he was saying without blasting our eardrums out. Sure the whispered dramatic voice followed by a bellowing shout may work great in the classroom, but on a CD it’s a whole nother ball game.
Now I know that these CDs are professional productions and have a host of sound engineers working on them. Which is why it is all the more baffling how terrible it came out in distribution.
