From Politico:
In a new Rasmussen poll, 38 percent of respondents said “the government should require all radio stations to offer equal amounts of conservative and liberal political commentary,” a nine percent drop from August. Forty-seven percent oppose such government requirements, and 15 percent are unsure.
Only 26% of voters believe conservatives have an unfair advantage in the media, the argument several senior congressional Democrats use in pushing for the restoration of the Fairness Doctrine. Sixty-four percent (64%) disagree.
Most (52%) liberals say conservatives have an unfair advantage, while 79% of conservatives and 64% of moderates disagree.
Even a majority of Democratic voters (53%) say that conservatives do not have an unfair advantage in the media.
But 51% say it is at least somewhat likely that the Democratic-controlled Congress will restore the Fairness Doctrine, which requires holders of broadcast licenses to present balanced political coverage of important issues, as determined by the Federal Communications Commission. Fourteen percent (14%) believe it is Very Likely.

what happened to freedom of speech?????
February 16, 2009 9:04 pm at 9:04 pm #638329havesomeseichelMemberthe “fairness doctrine” is the only way the liberals have found to limit conservative representation of ideas. Most talk radio is conservative;most liberal stations fail. Most people who listen to the radio are conservative-bent, while liberals have the majority of television stations and newspapers. It is just a fact. Why limit radio stations and not TV/newspapers? If the fairness doctrine passes, no conservative station could stay in business as when they want to say anything, they would need to present both sides equally.
FREEDOM OF SPEECH is what separates America from other countries. It is what makes us Free. Once they take this right away, nothing is safe and we turn into a socialist or communist dictatorship…

Saddam hussein censored what the people of Iraq put in their newspapers. All countries with dictators have some sort of “Fairness doctorine”.They don’t call it “the Fairness doctorine” they just say that if you write anything we don’t like or anything against our leader then you will be in for it!They have chopped people’s head off because of what they have written or produced in their media!
