Rachel, I have a better idea. Don’t park there illegally
September 25, 2012 6:35 pm at 6:35 pm #1017341shmoelMemberIf you shop there, it isn’t “illegal” to park there – even if you subsequently walk out of the area. It is tresspasing. Though the fees charged by the towing company are unreasonably and unjustifiably high. What if they demanded $2,000 before they would agree to return your car? They can’t charge an unfair amout. And $200+ is thievery.
September 25, 2012 8:06 pm at 8:06 pm #1017342RachelBMemberLesschumras,
I got a better idea I will keep up on this because they are in the process of being investigated again for their fraud. They changed their name 3 times and have phony addresses for their tow truck company.
As schmoel says it is ILLEGAL to charge $200 + in fees,
This is what the LAW says:
Towing rates from private parking lot
– Towing and three days of storage: $125
– Fourth day of storage and after: $15 per day
– “Drop fee” (for unhooking a car that is about to be towed): $62.50
September 25, 2012 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm #1017343RachelBMemberAnd you never answered my question lesschumras why do they only take cash ?
Answer- so that they don’t have to report their wrongdoings.
September 27, 2012 1:48 am at 1:48 am #1017344lesschumrasParticipantRachel,
Regardless of their fees, you keep ignoring the fact that if you didn’t park illegally you wouldn’t have a problem
September 27, 2012 2:33 am at 2:33 am #1017345YW Moderator-18ModeratorI have a few questions. Where do they tow the cars to? If you go shopping and your husband takes your kids to the water at the same time and they see them go to the water but you are actually shopping in the stores what happens? How long does it take to get your car back?
September 27, 2012 2:48 am at 2:48 am #1017346sheinMemberYW-18: They tow them to the tow truck companies lot, which could be miles away from the parking lot.
If they see your husband walk to the water and didn’t notice you went shopping at the same time, there is a risk they will tow. And once they hook up the car, they will not release it without you paying — no matter how good your excuse, even if you can prove you were shopping.
September 27, 2012 3:13 am at 3:13 am #1017347wanderingchanaParticipantIf you get towed when you were actually shopping, call Toys R Us and complain. Word of this gets out and it will be bad for business.
September 27, 2012 3:22 am at 3:22 am #1017348TheGoqParticipantSometimes life is unfair, get over it, some people don’t have cars let alone money to spend on toys move on.
September 27, 2012 3:26 am at 3:26 am #1017349sheinMemberToys R Us cannot do anything about the towing. TRU is just one rental client of a half a dozen stores in Caesar’s Bay Bazaar. Caesar’s Bay Bazaar owns the parking lot, all the stores (which the various chains – Toys R Us, Best Buy, Kohls, etc. – rent out) and they are the ones who signed a contract with the towing company.
September 27, 2012 10:51 am at 10:51 am #1017350WhiteberryMemberRachel. If you feel there are wrongdoings, call the cops, the BBB and the public advocates office. If there is hesitation to do so might it be because you are not 100% certain you are correct that they are wrong?
September 27, 2012 10:57 am at 10:57 am #1017351WhiteberryMemberRachel.
1. Look into the ownership of the land. They are jews.
2. Whether they are jews or not, is irrelevent in that they don’t want tashlich parkers using their lot. Whether their reasons are valid or purely hateful, doesn’t matter. If they choose to enforce it in such a sleazy manner and someone decides to risk it anyway, that’s a risk they are willing to take, and if they lose, they can’t call out the towing company/landlord.
3. If you really believe there are nefarious shenanigans going on, call any of the local TV stations and have them air a “shame on you segment” on these guys and their practices.
September 27, 2012 12:59 pm at 12:59 pm #1017352sheinMemberThe cops can’t do anything, especially if it is already towed. This is the case even if it was wrongfully towed. It is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. And the TV stations have many more interesting stories to fill their time than your tow story. They’ll laugh you off the phone.
September 27, 2012 1:09 pm at 1:09 pm #1017353RachelBMemberThe tow truck drivers circle round the blocks with the towed cars they NEVER bring them to the tow company’s lot as there is proof of this. This is illegal to do, they joyride people’s cars they supposed to take it straight to the lot. They don’t because it takes too much time and they would rather stay to catch more cars for the day.
PSJ Management is responsible for all of this.
I have already contacted the right people. The precincts and cops cannot do anything as they claim. Although if the tow truck drivers DEMAND CASH ONLY you have the RIGHT to call the cops since that’s illegal.
PSJ Management of Caesar’s Bay Bazaar hires a bunch of thugs to be spotters in the parking lot.
They have been reported to the BBB, under Fast Way Towing look it up you see all the people’s complaints. Like I said they just keep changing their name after having their license suspended for breaking the laws. There are so many stickers on top of old ones it just sticks out.
September 27, 2012 1:36 pm at 1:36 pm #1017354popa_bar_abbaParticipantImproperly towing cars is certainly a criminal matter, and the cops could do something if they wanted to. They just don’t believe you that there is improper towing happening.
September 27, 2012 4:14 pm at 4:14 pm #1017355sheinMemberpba: The fact of the matter is that your car is on their private property. So their towing your property off of their property is not a criminal violation regardless whether the civil laws should preclude their towing it off (since they invited you unto their property.)
It is solely a civil violation on their part if they wrongfully towed your vehicle off their property, in violation of Department of Consumer Affairs regulations when a vehicle can be towed off a property. The cops generally cannot get involved even if there is a violation of the consumer regulations.
September 27, 2012 6:15 pm at 6:15 pm #1017356RachelBMemberShein,
Yes you are correct. Please note they have been shut down by the Department of Consumer Affairs for illegal towing practices. In 2 years they have changed their name over 3 times at Caesar’s Bay. Fast Way Towing, Authorized Wreckers, Custom Wreckers. This year alone they changed it twice. They get subpoenaed for multiple violations with the DCA but they just open up a new license and do all their scams all over again.
September 27, 2012 7:58 pm at 7:58 pm #1017357danielaParticipantRachelB, I am very sorry to hear and thank you for the heads-up; is there an address people can write and complain? I’ll do it.

When a parking lot is reserved for customers and you’re not exclusively dealing with the proprietor’s business, it’s unlawful to park there, even for only a few minutes. You can be towed, and you’ll have to pay for the tow if you can’t produce a receipt from the business from the period when you used its lot.

October 4, 2012 11:06 pm at 11:06 pm #1017367RachelBMemberDid you hear about what happened in the Caesar’s Bay parking lot tonight ? How the ambulances were there because of the tow trucks hurting one of us ?
October 4, 2012 11:31 pm at 11:31 pm #1017368RachelBMemberIf you have any updates about this incident that occurred around 4:45 PM tonight let me know.
You can also write a letter of complaint about these tow truck practices to this email address of the DCA:
October 5, 2012 12:13 am at 12:13 am #1017369bubby ice creamParticipantfor the record regarding your past post which doesn’t allow comments any longer, IT’S NOT ILLEGAL TO BLOCK SOMEONES DRIVEWAY IF THEY ILLEGALLY MADE A CUT IN THE SIDEWALK AND USE THAT CUT AS THEIR OWN PRIVATE ENTRANCE FOR THEIR OWN CAR TO HAVE A PLACE TO PARK!!!!!! THE ONLY TIME IT’S ILLEGAL TO PARK IS IF THERE’S A POSTED CITY SIGN SAYING SO. ANYONE WHO DOESN’T PARK AT A CUT CURB FOR SOMEONES PRIVATE DRIVEWAY, IS DOING A COURTESY!!!! P.S. THIS INCLUDES BUSINESSES WHO DO THE SAME. IT’S NOT ILLEGAL TO PARK WHERE SOMEONE ANOINTS THERE OWN PRIVATE PARKING PLACE.
October 5, 2012 12:58 am at 12:58 am #1017370wanderingchanaParticipantGoogle yelp and Caesar’s Bay Bazaar. All sorts of complaints. Maybe the police are in on it too if they are getting complaints and not doing anything? Extortion??

Shopping613- You missed the point, some people produced a receipt, but still had to pay.

The scam, orchestrated by dozens of towing firms, has been occurring in places motorists often consider the safest areas to park, such as the public lots of major shopping plazas, city Department of Consumer Affairs Commissioner Jonathan Mintz told The Post.
Perhaps the most notorious offender was the now-defunct firm Fastway Towing & Recovery of Brooklyn.
The scam was pulled as often as 20 times an hour, according to the DCA.
