I’m looking for a safe, monitored enviroment to place a 16 year old chassidish OTD teen. He comes from a broken home, his mother had a breakdown and the father is simply crazy. He still wears a yarmulka, peyos, and frum levush, but he stooped very low (mechalel shabbos [although not in public], etc.). He wants to learn the English language in order to achieve a proffession and he’s looking to do so with teens who are in his or similar situation (which is preferable since otherwise he’s hanging out with goyim).

If anybody knows of an organization, or place like this, it would be greatly appreciated. Please include contact info.

    Thanks in advance.

Call Rabbi Gluck at Areivim in Monsey. He has a sort of half way house for troubled teens with no place to live.

I’ve spoken to someone who works in our place – its located in flatbush and sounds like an amazing program

    Thanks for the replies.

Aries, do you think a chassidish young teen will feel comfortable in there? Is it safe? Where is it located? can you give me any contact information?

RedNails, I don’t think it’s an ideal place for a chassidish boy who doesn’t speak English.

Raphael, we tried contacting Rabbi Gluck, but to no avail. Do you have an e-mail adress, etc.?

    Thank you, once again.

    Tizku Lemitzvos.

Yeshiva Anuvim run by Ozer Babad and Booky Kaluszyner deals with Chassidishe (OTD) teenagers. They do a fantastic job, and have a GED program there too. I believe their phone number is 718-705-8266. Otherwise, just ask around for it.

Rabbi Gluck e-mail [email protected] . His office phone number is 845-371-2760.

Also Rabbi Ronald Greenwald might be able to help as to who to contact. I dont have his number but he is in Monsey and I am sure if you ask around you could get his number.

I posted the number for Avi Fishoff, I don’t know why the mods didn’t let it through. Try googling him in flatbush.

Thanks, justsimcha. Right now he is working and saving up for a car. He’s acting cruel and arrogant but he is honest and uninterested in drugs b”H. He just wants to be a normal frei person, which he unfortunately already is.

    Hi, To mindoverchatter

Remember never give up like that on your child, Tehillim and siyata dishmaya will do the trick,

If the boy you are talking about comes from a chasiddishe background

then Anachnu, run by Rabbi Babad and Rabbi Kaluszyner Have a few programs for working boys, They have a drop in center as well as yeshiva placements, mentoring, and parent coaching, And a full day yeshiva,

They can be reached at 718-705-8266

Thanks a lot, Chaim. The problem is much deeper than I realized. One parent has no say on him (he’ll make sure to do the exact opposite of what he’s told) while the other one thinks there’s no place like home. He has zero interest in Yiddishkeit to the point of paranoia. Will any of these guides try to make contact with the boy himself? (Reaching them is so difficult. They never return calls.)

Also, how much do these places cost? All the money was already spent trying to keep this ?? ???? ????? happy and buying his love-turned-hate. (Parents beware!)

BTW he’s not my son b”H. But for the grace of G-d…

“ourplace can drag a person further down. Make sure its for him before he is brought anywhere near the place.”

granted ive only been there for three days…but from what ive seen there and from what im reading on this thread…Our Place may be just the place for him. its pretty much a led by example thing, and theres someone there for him who will are about him…and that an make all the difference. i understand what you meant when you said that…but if this kid truly has hit rock bottom or is close then give Our Place a try.

Thanks, BTGuy and Soliek. I’ll keep it in mind. Are there druggies or crooks there who can drag him further down?

Speak to Rabbi Wallerstein. He will be very helpful in such a situation. At the very least he can guide you what is the best way to deal with him.

Obviously this child is very hurt. Something happened to him that has caused him so much pain that he wants to rid himself of yiddishkeit. It could be something that happened between him and his parent, or something that happened that his parent either didn’t support him with, or it could be an issue in the home where this parent doesn’t respect the other and that has turned him off. There is a long list of what it could be, but without a doubt this child is hurting badly and Rabbi Wallerstein has much experience in dealing with children in pain.

you’ll have to decide if its worth the gamble. there are guys there who live rough and its unfortunate…it really depends on the guy you’re talking about. are his issues hashkafic? if so they ohr yitzchok is probably a better bet. if his issues are worse than that, if hes on the street already then our place might be something to consider maybe in conjunction with ohr yitzchok

Thanks, Aries. Unfortunately, none of these wonderful people are available. EVER. I don’t blame them, of course, it just proves how busy they are.

BTW This may be a new one for you, but this particular child was terribly hurt by being SPOILED ROTTEN. Yes, this can be WORSE than abuse.

talk to rabbi pinchas wallerstien or rabbi aaron groner at ohr yitzchok, they can get you in with rabbi zecharia wallerstien. besides…id say that ohr yitzchok is the best option anyway

If he is spoiled rotten then the best thing for him is to put him to work. There is a frum man with a lighting store on New Utrecht avenue that gives these type of kids jobs. I am having a senior moment and can’t remember the name. I will get back to you when It comes to me.

I think it was Aura Lighting on 59th and New Utrecht. Hatzlocha.
