I enjoy the coffee room to have a chance to hear other people’s opinions on different topics. Lately, though there has been an immature twit to the coffee room in which
bloggers are trying to figure out who is who, and who u might know, and how u wish to meet the next person, or maybe there should be a reunion, and who u like best, and who appears most often. WHO CARES?
That is not what the coffee room is meant to be. It is meant to be a forum of discussion. Most threads end up going off topic welcoming someone back, asing them how their shabbos was etc.
Can we try to keep what the coffee room is meant to be,and perhaps leave friendships for the gym?
January 18, 2009 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm #633674RoshYeshivahMemberphilys you are quite right.
January 18, 2009 6:57 pm at 6:57 pm #633676squeakParticipantDiversions are a part of all blogs. Some have dedicated sections so that the non-diversion threads stay “clean”. But this blog does not have that.
Jewish geography is the favorite game of all Jewish people I know (though more so religious ones). If you don’t enjoy it, I hope that you will be able to avoid it and still enjoy the rest of what goes on here. Though I would encourage you or anyone to express your views and opinions about what we should or should not discuss here, I have no doubt that you would be voted down.
January 18, 2009 9:17 pm at 9:17 pm #633677amichaiParticipantthanx phyllis. but i just wonder if there are more bloggers that want it the other way.
January 18, 2009 9:27 pm at 9:27 pm #633679havesomeseichelMemberYou are so right! Isnt the reason we have usernames is so that we remain anonymous? If you want people to know who you are, change your sn to “Shlomoweiss” or “Rivkishwartz” ect…. (and no, I do not know people by those names, I just tried to come up with random names…fill in your own.)
January 19, 2009 3:01 am at 3:01 am #633685qwertyuiopMemberhss: that’s a good idea maybe i’ll do that now.
January 19, 2009 5:10 am at 5:10 am #633687havesomeseichelMemberand then we can stop the random talking, qwertyuiop?
January 19, 2009 5:14 am at 5:14 am #633688qwertyuiopMemberlol, i wasn’t serious, but i do like the personal conversations they’re fun, but you have to learn how to follow them ames.
January 19, 2009 5:24 am at 5:24 am #633689asdfghjklParticipantqwertyuiop: i’m with ya on that one!!! i like the personal convos!!!
January 19, 2009 6:20 am at 6:20 am #633691Mrs. BeautifulMemberPhyllis, I could not agree with u more. I used to really enjoy heated discussions, that continued on and on, ON TOPIC, one blogger to the next to the next, each person with their unique viewpoint.
While now some of the topics are “who do u wish u can see most” or CR chanukah Party.
Even the humor thread became a personal conversation. WHich of course is unfair since some just simply are forced to navigate off the page, like ames. Besides for the fact that it ruins what once was a great thread…these panels are not a matter of who is who, its hearing other people out.
January 19, 2009 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #633692CuriousMemberI actually prefer the personal convos, for simple reason that the “heated discussions” look more like bashing attacks. I’d prefer to stay respectful and friendly…
If we could do respectful discussions, that would be great, but very unlikely given the anonymity of the CR.
January 19, 2009 5:13 pm at 5:13 pm #633693mazal77ParticipantI agree with you. I really wish people with stick with the posted threads. I like to hear personal stories/opinions pertaining to the topic.. It seems just like a regular chatroom sometimes. Maybe their should be just be a seperate room for those who just want to “chat” with each other. When the topics do lead to personal conversations, sometimes I just think, “why don’t they just exchange email addresses with each other??”.
January 20, 2009 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #633696squeakParticipantSometimes you want to get a feel for who you are conversing with. I don’t know if sharing email addresses is the best idea since that would essentially make YW into a meeting site/brokerage. I agree, though, with the recent stance by YW not to post any revealing information (even though I personally have never revealed anything that enables posters track me down). The chatting is part of the discussion – it gives the poster an identity. We just need to be sure that the line is drawn so not too much is shared. But my opinion is not to draw the line too far back either. If YW decided to abolish screen names (and make everyone anon or guest), I would probably lose interest in posting. I bet many others would too.
January 20, 2009 10:28 pm at 10:28 pm #633697areivimzehlazehParticipanti agree with squeak 100%. me l’squeak aylai (whoever’s with squeak, join me)
January 21, 2009 3:58 am at 3:58 am #633711RoshYeshivahMembermazal77 there actually is a thread for regular chat see the general shmooze thread.
January 21, 2009 6:40 am at 6:40 am #633712Mrs. BeautifulMemberIt’s nice to hear the same pples opinions again and again but personal conversations are uninteresting and uncomprehendable for those not part, which most of the time is e/o but u and the one u r chatting with, maybe one other person.
squeak, If you want, open a chat room, this way u can shmooze with ur “YWN FRIENDS” w/o giving away ur identity. But please dont spoil our discussions with personal chats, leave the discussion threads to the discussions they started out as…
January 21, 2009 3:12 pm at 3:12 pm #633713squeakParticipantMrs. B, are you like this in other social settings as well? Do you dictate to your friends the course that your conversations must take? If you bump into Sara Rivka and start talking about the sale on wigs, and then she mentions something about her brother starting to date, do you insist that she get back on track? Is that also spoiling the discussion? Most people let a conversation take its course.
January 21, 2009 6:20 pm at 6:20 pm #633714feivelParticipantthe conversations, humor and injokes are lots of fun for the regulars
but can make certain occasional visitors feel uncomfortable.
dont see any reason to stop it though,
a forum like this is a living organism with its own changing personality,
see no pressing need to make it more robotic
January 21, 2009 6:36 pm at 6:36 pm #633715areivimzehlazehParticipantway to go squeak
January 21, 2009 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm #633716Mrs. BeautifulMembersqueak, r u like this in conversations? U r in middle of speaking to one person, someone else comes along u start a conversation that the first person has no clue has to what is going on and is unable to follow…
I dont mind when a shadchan thread turns into an economic thread or a completely different topic, but it is annoying when 2 pple are shmoozing publicly and no one else can follow.
January 21, 2009 6:57 pm at 6:57 pm #633717heimesheyidMembersqueak, c’mon do u honestly think that that is the same. She is simply saying that this is a discussion forum not a chat room. That is so simple to understand…
January 21, 2009 8:28 pm at 8:28 pm #633718areivimzehlazehParticipantthis is so rediculous it’s lauphable
January 21, 2009 9:48 pm at 9:48 pm #633719PhyllisMemberIt is quite laughable, but I do think squeak was a bit sharp with his comment, I mean I don’t think Mrs. Beautiful sounded too aggressive, she was mearly stating her opinion and squeak sounds like it was really taken it to heart. No offense to you.
January 21, 2009 10:04 pm at 10:04 pm #633720areivimzehlazehParticipantyou have to know how to read squeak’s posts- what’s really going thru his brain and his facial expression are great aids
January 21, 2009 10:18 pm at 10:18 pm #633721moish01Memberareivimzehlazeh – i think i get him. squeak you read in all seriousness, while joseph is 100% sarcastic (and when he’s not he can’t imagine why you thought he was kidding) am i right?
January 21, 2009 10:20 pm at 10:20 pm #633722CuriousMemberareivim – I hope he was laffing, not lauphing.
January 21, 2009 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #633723areivimzehlazehParticipanti may be dyslexic and wrote “lauphing” instead of “laughing”, but it most definitely is not “laffing”
January 22, 2009 1:37 am at 1:37 am #633724asdfghjklParticipantPhyllis: you must be mad as to the way your thread is turning out!!!

January 22, 2009 4:03 am at 4:03 am #633725RoshYeshivahMemberHey guys listen! If you go back there are plenty of threads where everybody stayed on topic and it turned out a wonderful discussion. There is more than one thread designated for chat.I personally like both but when one gets mixed with the other it makes me really nervous! When i’m in the middle of explaining my view on luxurious simcha’s i don’t want anybody inviting me out to lunch get it?! es to debate and es to talk! Thank you for listening.
January 22, 2009 3:59 pm at 3:59 pm #633726squeakParticipantRY, so how about lunch? Now you’re not talking about luxurious simchas.
January 22, 2009 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm #633729charlie brownMemberRoshYeshiva,
